I’m pretty sure none of the endings are canonical. Although characters’ relationships certainly are.
And Avian most likely will be dead anyways… =[
Aw man, no more makeovers :l. Well, maybe Stanley can take his place in making anti-skullgirl weapons since he’s still alive. (thanks to the people)
It’s actually pretty interesting. I never saw Stan in Ahad’s drawings. His only appearance is ASGL’s background. It makes you think if he’s Ahad’s character at all… o_O It’s possible that he was drawn by artist who was making stage’s background…
On the other hand - if Alex really was planing to kill him then Stanley probably have some more or less significant role. I hope he’ll get some more spotlight if RL will add true story.
Edit: also Mike said no comment when I asked if he had ideas about Shark’s fighting style. So you can take it like reeeeeeeeeeeeeally indirect hint at him being playable. But even if that true there are shitload of characters who seem to be more important to story which move Stan far back in line =[
I have to believe he’ll be somewhat important if they even gave him a name and enough thought to be terminated. It just helps that the fans love him so.
I hope so… Also we should find Alex and ask him about T. J. MAXIMUM!!!
Even if he’s not SG character I’ll buy any game he will end up in =]
Same plans here! (Though I really hope he’s from the SG Universe). Oh well, I was going to buy Vulcan Heel anyway if it ever comes out XD.
I doubt he’s from there either… =[
Although any metroidvania is good as long as it has decent map =] so yeah, Vulcan Heel for the win!
Marin rocks =]
After recently 1CC’d all characters’s story mode, i can finally read this thread.
The first character i cleared was Cerebella. Her ending was bitter and at first i was angry at her killing Ms. Fortune. But after a second run i noticed she really didn’t had much choice, given Ms. Fortune confirmed resolution to destroy the Medici.
Nonetheless, i was surprised at this turn of events.
In the end, a character which was probably perceived initially as “good” by most people, ended killing another and becoming Vitale’s cum dumpster.
Quite shocking ending for a fighting game, and even more so given Cerebella works at a circus and looked pretty cheerful.
I’d bet most people were neither expecting her story to be that grimdark.
Then i watched a bittersweet ending about redemption and sacrifice by playing with Filia (Painwheel is so fucking cute). Riccardo’s jimmies will never be the same.
Peacock story had another bittersweet turn of events i wasn’t expecting, but the conclusion ended on a more positive note. (Cerebella’s torn hat was a nice plus, lol). And it hints a new villainess.
Parasoul’s story was, like the entire Canopy Kingdom, pretty cool (I’d so play a Metal Slug like game with Egrets), but the ending was bitter as hell. Poor sisters.
Ms. Fortune path wasn’t bitter as i expected given her fate in Cerebella’s ending. It hints more development regarding the Medici mafia (Which apparently is composed by dudes who would rather fuck a tadpole than a scantily clad catgirl… WTF. Whoever wrote the script is obviously no stranger to hentai plots).
Painwheel ending was saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad. Brain Drain works pretty well as a villain.
And then i played with Valentine.
She’s the goddamn Batman, i tell you that.
Too bad her story barely had any development, which made her decision of becoming the Skull Girl nonsensical. Wasn’t the goal to destroy the Skull Girl? WTF man.
And then Double and her “Toontown Swag Wagon”, which resulted in the revealing of the truth:
The Goddesses Venus and Aeon (I love her hourglass figure) were playing around with the world and therefore none of it really matters.
I hope the canon story gets added into the game later.
I’m willing to buy other games within the Skullgirls universe (As long as they’re good, of course), but i’d rather if the fighting game had more of an actual story, even if it later continues in other games.
Conclusion: Overall, i liked some endings, while others felt unsatisfying.
Sad and bitter endings were surprising and even refreshing compared to the typical mindless happy ones you can see in pretty much all fighting games and games in general. But then again they aren’t canon.
Good observations, and yeah… I think I can speak for most of us when I say I’d love to see the story pack some more meat on its bones. I do kind of like there being the noncanon endings as the crazy ones like Cerebella’s got to be explored, but Skullgirls definitely has a lot more going for it. There’s a lot of potential here for a killer good canon storyline.
She explained her decision pretty clearly: “I’m going for the masters”. There wasn’t any way for her to come in touch with skullheart’s masters except turning into Skullgirl herself. That’s why she was messing around Marie and become her servant. For the same reason she created Painwheel and was concisely growing in her hatred towards Val as her creator so Painwheel will be able to defeat Valentine after her taking the shot at enigmatic masters as Skullgirl. So Valentine was planing this stuff ALL ALONG actually. For me personally her story made most sense amongst all of them.
Looks like i forgot that part. Now it makes sense to me.
Thanks for pointing that out.
One thing I really want to see story mode take advantage of: the variable sized teams. Like, it’d be cool if certain story paths actually had characters team up and you controlled them all. That’s not something other fighting games with stories get to do.
You’re welcome. That deal with PW actually illustrates that Val not giving two shits about ethics and doing EVERYTHING it takes to achieve her goals.
Game’s story is an interesting take on the Groundhog Day esque what if scenario.
Each scenario really did happen, and didn’t at the same time.
I dunno man, I think she had no real reason to kill Ms. Fortune.
If she killed Fortune in a battle-to-the-death, I’d be able to understand. Fortune, however, was completely subdued and no longer a threat. It’s like the difference between shooting someone in the head in self-defense, and shooting someone in the head that you’ve already tied up, gagged and blindfolded.
It just seemed really out of character for Cerebella. She could have just as easily delivered Fortune to Vitale, but she went and became the only ‘hero’ to kill another hero. (Unless I’m forgetting something.) I don’t understand how a seemingly sweet girl who just happened to be hopelessly in love with a bad dude could go and do something that made her more heinous than even the obviously mentally unbalanced Peacock and Painwheel.
Regarding the Canon Story DLC, i’d buy it.
But thinking about it, perhaps it would be better if instead of only a single DLC story unit, it was separated into canon story arcs (each arc a DLC).
Why?
A) So the new characters added after the hypothetical release of a Canon Arc DLC aren’t left out the canon storyline.
B) To avoid retcons and asspulls to shoehorn the new characters.
C) To keep the interest in the lore and characters fresh for more time.
No matter how long the canon story becomes, if it gets released on one go, then there wouldn’t be much to look for in that regard after reading it.
Like episodic content, each new arc being a direct sequel of the last one.
5 bucks per Arc would be fine, as long as 1) Each arc got plenty of content 2) Each arc gets released a considerable amount of time after the last one, ie: after the release of some new characters.
A) Cerebella was struggling just to keep hold of Ms. Fortune.
B) Ms. Fortune expressed how her intention was to wish the death of the Medici.
Ms. Fortune is immortal, so if Cerebella left her be or imprisoned her, she’d keep trying forever to kill them.
C) Cerebella considers the Medici her family. She’s heavily infatuated with Vitale (assuming they weren’t lovers already. Bella got some serious daddy issues).
D) Cerebella’s orders included retrieving the Life Gem, and Ms. Fortune fused with it.
E) In the last scene of her ending, we see her feeling bad, most likely slowly realizing what she did and feeling guilty after becoming a murderer.
It wasn’t out of character. It was how she was constructed.
And to be honest, such moral ambiguity isn’t far AT ALL from real people’s.
Example: In times of catastrophes or extreme danger, many people would rather KILL or LET DIE innocent people in order to save their own family or loved ones.
When extreme situations of life and death happen, people tend to get fucking crazy and become capable of the worst. Some people might react heroically, but most people won’t, and will only care about their own safety and their loved ones’s over everyone else’s.
Thankfully, her ending isn’t canon. So it doesn’t matter.
However, if her characterization remains true in the canon story, then that could mean she’d be capable of killing someone who doesn’t deserve to die to protect who she loves, but that wouldn’t necessarily mean she’ll murder someone.
That said, while i will accept whatever happens in the canon plot. I wish it not be too grim or depressing.
We are lead to believe Peacock killed Cerebella
I dunno, Ms. Fortune seemed to be locked down pretty tight, and considering Cerebella was looking at the Skullheart with her hands to her chin in a very thoughtful pose, it looked to me like Cerebella wasn’t struggling at all. I saw Fortune struggling to get away from Vice-Versa’s grasp, but I did not see Cerebella struggle to keep her there.
Also, it seemed to me like Cerebella’s mission was to capture Fortune and bring the gem back. Personally I was kinda expecting her to bring Fortune back to Vitale with a big beaming smile on her face, Vitale’s goons take Fortune into a dark room with some Mafia surgeons, you hear some screams, then silence, then ta-da, the gem is theirs. Maybe then Cerebella realizes the gravity of her actions - or maybe she ignores it or doesn’t even notice it.
It’s not the end that bothers me, it’s the means.
Ms. Fortune implied the gem was in her blood. Surgery wouldn’t be an option.
Spoiler
The gem dissolved. The most you could do is separate the parts from each other. Even then, how could you dismember Fortune without getting messed up since she can dismember herself at will and attack with the limbs?
Don’t get me wrong, I hate Cerebella (and was like “fuck yes” when Peacock walked into Vitale’s office with a shredded Vice-Versa in hand), but there’s no real way to solve the issue of Ms. Fortune’s immortality except wishing it away with the Skullheart (probably).
And like I said, It’s part of Nadia’s elaborate plan:
- Get crushed into a life-gem
- Wait until gem is unsupervised
- Pop out of gem and go “I’M IMMORTAL BITCHES”
- Kill some mafia fools.
