Actually…not bad! He’s not doing anything that’d prevent him from fighting since his daughters been kidnapped…He’s got knives, and all fish people control water (game logic). I say we make it reality…like Wright in UMVC3 , or Derpy in MLP, The name Lunch (which got nowhere), or the fact that the reports of Stanley Whitefin’s death were greatly exaggerated! Starting the campaign…now.

i’m just gonna say that i hope at least a few of the lines from Voice Actress matches get into the game. Everything in those are pure gold.

as for some actual story thoughts:

  • I really hope we get more interaction with the Lab 8 folks and get to see more of the personalities of Leduc, Hive and Dr. Avian.
  • Could Marie’s defeat be a way to have her lose her skullheart powers and become playable? I figure since the ultimate enemy is the trinity, i assume we’ll be seeing more girls and more skullgirl forms. and it’d be neat to see her and Peacock get a chance to get some a bite to eat. not sure how resurrecting her would work, but hey, strange/odd reasoning behind returning from certain doom works out for Geese Howard pretty good.
  • I think that playable Brain Drain and Black Dahlia will happen eventually since they seem to be the ultimate bosses for Carol and Nadia to overcome.

Gonna touch on this so Mike doesn’t see it and have an aneurysm: Squigly and Umbrella weren’t ‘swapped out’. The plan was for 8 and the 8 that we have is who we were always going to have. Just because there were pictures and such of all the cast people assumed who were the 8 we were going to have.

Peacock has a winquote like that too: “I expected more from the Medici mob.” I’m wondering what the heck Filia was doing before she ran into Samson that would have Peacock knowing about her. What with that and her reservations about Painwheel, I have a feeling she was probably not the sweet Filia we have as a playable character now…

Someone here brought up before that Maplecrest being the community where the mob and their families live. On that stage you’ll see a bunch of students wearing the same school uniform as Filia. Assuming that the mob taking residence in Maplecrest is common knowledge than Peacock could deduce that Filia is mob related. Cerebella quote feels like she actually knew Filia.

Ah, true… but then again, we don’t know if it is common knowledge. After all, the Medicis apparently have a very good PR department.

Actually that makes me wonder-- there are what, 17 Medici affiliated families in Maplecrest? If what Valentine said was true, anyway. It’d be crazy if Painwheel had previously been a Medici member. Though it doesn’t seem very likely to me actually, haha. My little theory right now is that she might have crossed them (Filia?) the wrong way and was set up, leading to her kidnapping?

One of the things I liked from the story line was that many of the matches already had a logical what if condition.

To advance Painwheel’s storyline you had to beat Filia.
To advance either Ms. Fortune or Cerabella you had to defeat the other person.
To advance either Peacock’s or Valentine’s you had to beat the other.
To advance Painwheel or Valentine you had to beat the other.
Etc.

It would be very cool if you introduced a contextual DLC where the two main features are:

1-a revised storyline where instead of an immediate gameover you continue with the character who won the fight.
2-New voice interactions during the fights. You brought out a lot of personality to the characters with just their usage of different opening lines before the beginning of the fight. You could step it up and create matchup specific dialogue that occurs midfight as well.

I don’t want dem branches =[ Only thing that I love about canon is that it actually setting in stones things that otherwise would cause holywar or whatever. Also I prefer if writers will concentrate all their efforts on one good deep story instead of making several less detailed. Why everybody wants branches in FGs? o_O I can’t remember anybody request them for actions >_>

But that’s the tool I am - I want all the answers in strictly formulated manner to eliminate all possible questions. I know that SG isn’t going to do such stuff of course - but the closer it gets the happier I will be.

You misunderstood the implications of what I said.

What I said changes nothing about how the storylines play out because if you actually paid attention to the stories more than two-thirds of the interactions already are dependent on each other. It’s the almost same game you already would’ve played under the current system. Just sit through the story mode on youtube and you can see a lot of how you only get certain matchups

The only major change would that there would be a final ending where Marie (or Valentine/Double depending on how you want to handle the unlockables) wins and you have to start over.

Doing it this way allows you to create more depth for the characters.

For example when you play as Ms. Fortune she gains so much confidence in her own abilities at the end she has no desire to use the skullheart. When you play as Cerebella, Ms Fortune is different at the end where she desires to use the Skullheart. If you only played Ms. Fortune or Cerebella you wouldn’t realize how Ms. Fortune’s self-esteem was entirely dependent on the outcomes of winning her fights. If a player only wanted to play through with Ms. Fortune, and lost at the part they fight with Cerebella then beat the game with Cerebella, and went back to Ms. Fortune to get her “true” ending; it would make them appreciate the consequences of winning and losing more in the campaign, and it would give them better insight into the character.

There are a handful of other character interactions that are like this.

The effort to logically put things together is low because they already considered how certain fights should be determined. Thinking up and creating a Marie winning cutscene would involve more effort than interweaving the different plot points.

I’d like a totally linear storyline myself, like how Mortal Kombat did it recently. Especially since it jumped between characters as a way to get many perspectives.

anyway, i was thinking about something: if there were to be more story, which would be great, I figure that marie wouldn’t be the boss for everyone again.

Guilty Gear’s story usually tossed gold characters at players at the end of story routes. You think Reverge would make boss versions of every character? (like a Valentine that always throws green vials or a Peacock with instant max power item drops for example?)

That would be a really clever way to make a normal character a “boss”, oooh. Earlier there was some discussion about certain conditions during battles too, like “can’t jump for the duration of the match” or “no supers”, that kind of thing. It might be a little cheap but given the right context I think it could make a boss battle much more interesting and fun ;0 That’s actually kind of one of the things I was expecting for the storymodes before I played. I couldn’t really see a scenario where every character actually BEAT the Skullgirl so I had a thought that a different character would serve as the final boss for different stories.

On branching storylines-- while I do love AUs and what ifs and all that jazz, fact of the matter is that this game needs a canon storyline. That’s what I think, anyways P: We’ve already got our “what ifs” and ambiguous endings, so why create more? It seems to be the goal to create one unifying plot line, at least…

Also, on a random note, for DLC characters. I wonder if it would be possible to include “bonus scenes” in the canon plot thinger if you had purchased the corresponding DLC char? I know I’ve heard Reverge wants to give them their own little storymodes, but it’d be cool if they were able to be a little more involved in the main plot, too.

Maybe in the future we’ll have Evil Filia as DLC

gold characters were pretty amazing and totally overpowered. johnny’s one-hit-kill mist finers were something else.

if there were SG boss style characters, here’s how i’d think they’d be overpowered for story purposes without going into the crazy zone that is gold sol’s health regen insanity or Slayer’s nigh-invulnerability:
Filia - increased meter gain. increased movement speed. hair glows gold. "I’m just saiyan."
Cerebella - basically gold potemkin. more damage. super slow walk. has a wacky dash which crosses the screen.
Painwheel - hatred install always on. has super armor.
Double - really fast walk speed. increased meter gain.
Valentine - every needle is green. using a needle change will change all future needles to that color. faster movement.
Parasoul - free usage of egrets. every tear toss throws out multiple tears.
Peacock - every item drop is instantly a level 3.
Ms. Fortune - head is immune to damage. regens red damage as if tagged out. faster movement.

as for ideas for downgrades like poison and no jumping, i’d like to see Parasoul’s “Where the hell are my egrets?!” get into a story mode fight.

I want actual canonical story. Like LK said - we need to have main road to know what was actually happening and what not really. After that we’ll be able to tell apart what was highly probable and what was put in just for lulz. After canon being established I have nothing against what-if scenarios. But after - not during. And certainly not before >

Agreed, since if the “what-ifs” were unified:
prof. avian is dead
Ms. Fortune is dead( which would contradict the whole find minette thing)
Parasoul, Filia, And Valentine are skullgirls. (which would be impossible since Valentine would be dead :p)
Painwheel is no longer a fighter
Cerebella would be dead.
Almost forgot, everyone but double would be dead.

One or more of these would have to be enacted in a “unified” story.
