Honestly, the Skullheart reminds me more of Kyubey than anything if you’ve ever watched that Madoka anime. You can have this wish, but oh are you going to pay for it later.
Has Peter clarified what exactly happened to Ms. Forturne in Cerebella’s ending? I’m dying to know :c. Someone bug him for me.
I like this thread, and am glad people liked the stories!
The events of the stories came from Alex, and I wrote all the dialog. I’ve got to admit I was a little surprised and upset when Joystiq said it was “shoddy,” because this isn’t the first time I’ve written a game and I thought I did a reasonably good job giving the characters… distinct characters and the dialog some emotional depth.
And, yes, Cerebella did crush Ms. Fortune into a new Life Gem. Like coal into a diamond.
As for the non-canonical-ness of it… Many of the events in these alternate timelines also happen in the “real” timeline.
I really hope that we get to make the canonical story… do you think would people be willing to pay for it as DLC? Maybe $5 for it?
Don’t listen to that idiot of a “reviewer”, you did a good job fleshing out the characters. Heck, you managed to break expectations people have with the characters and in turn, people adored them even more. It’s quite empowering actually. A canonical story for $5? I’m down with that.
Man, Vitale must be one buff dude, Fortune weighted 127 lbs
As for a DLC ending, I’m not sure most people would be receptive to that, on it’s own.
Maybe if it was bundled with other stuff, like a pack of characters or handled another way.
A comic on the Skullgirls site, for example
Yes absolutely I’d pay for it. I’ve only played through half of the stores but I already REALLY want to learn more about the lore and characters. $5 seems like a fair price but if you’re going all out, please do voice-overs and stop the entire screen from flashing after each dialog box. It makes it MUCH easier to justify the cost to the consumer.
Ending? I’m talking about an entirely new, unified story mode.
I would love to voice the entire game, but… all things being equal, if I had to choose between new art and voice, I would definitely go with art. And voice is also significantly more expensive than art, so all things aren’t equal in the least.
Not sure it’s the greatest idea to charge for the story. A lot of people on the forum, including me, would buy it, however there’s not much stopping others who could be potential buyers from just looking up videos of the story on any video site.
If a unified story was patched in, what would happen to the what-if storylines?
I still feel like it wouldn’t sell well on it’s own, without something backing it up.
Pack of characters, new colors for the whole cast, something like that.
If it’s just a new story mode, I can see a good chunk of people skipping the purchase and watching it on YouTube or a stream
Nothing - there would be a new menu option.
“The Nightmare Legacy” for the canonical story, and “Story Mode” for the what-ifs.
What if the battles had special conditions, challenges, etc. involved?
As long as it’s good and lengthy, and provides mindfucks at the level of 999, I’ll pay whatever for it.
If the conditions make sense.
For example, if George or lenny get super pissed at peacock for whatever reason, they’d be like “We’re not helpin!” those attacks would be disabled and she’d get the bombs back through story explanation.
Make the conditions mean something, and don’t be like:
Cerebella: Oh you’re goin’ down!
Condition: Win with a perfect
EDIT: Oooh. Something else you guys could do is don’t give gameovers for losses. If you lose, make a branching story that explains what the effects of the loss mean. This could mean a game over, but don’t abruptly end it.
Yeah, I think they would be more like “Valentine filled the room with poison gas” and “Filia’s pissed so she has unlimited meter.”
I don’t know that reference at all, but I have one I can equate to it. The Skullheart reminds me of Calypso from Twisted Metal: Black, but somehow (slightly) less evil, and you have the option to turn down even making a wish.
As long as you don’t kill anyone off, sequels man, sequels, even Marie, I’d be down with dropping even 10$ for it!
Also, it sucks to think that a fighting games story never really gets any props unless it’s hella hours long chocked full of lengthy CG cutscenes. :\
I’d definitely buy a canon story mode DLC. Would it play through one linear path, with you taking control of the characters as necessary, or would you select who you want to play beforehand and get bits and pieces?
