Flat on the board? I don’t get that. I mean maybe that’s good for helping you not bust your laces? I mean when I pop, my feet stay up and down like I’m standing, I don’t keep my soles against my board. If I pop high enough, both of my feet are sideways in front of me.
I wouldn’t think too hard on foot placement. Just work on getting your board up there. If it feels good, it’ll probably look good too.
My stationary ollies look legit now, I pretty much got it standing still, but for the life of me, I can’t do it moving.
I tried some mind over matter shit, like running across the street and trying to force myself to ollie over a curb, but everytime i get there I bail out.
Well don’t try to ollie over anything, just practice small ones going slowly on flat ground first.
I too have things I can only do stationary. Mainly nollie shove its and heelflips. And to a lesser extent, backside 180s, but I can do them moving, they’re just sloppier and my consistency is fair bit worse. Backside 180s are so much harder for me than frontside 180s.
Edit: So me and my friends are pretty close to finishing our movie. Today my friend did this awesome thing where he did a pop shove it and spun the board one way, while turning the other. Could somebody please tell me what this is called? Also I got a smooth FS 50-50, FS 180 out on a ledge on camera. What is this actually called, just 50-50 180 out or is it like 50-50 to fakie or something?
The trick your friend did is pop shove-it body varial.
When you guys have been skating for few years more, you will find yourself laughing how you where so stoked on so horrible trick. No offence, just been there, done that my self too like a decade ago.
And 50-50 fs 180 out is just that. No any fancier names.
daamn some of you guys are some newbs. i’m not pro but damn some of ya’ll need to practice more! Having trouble on a rolling ollie? That’s uber pathetic. We’ve all been at that stage however…
i’ve been skating since i was a kid so i guess i take my natural skating abilities for granted
Deluxe Distribution (REAL, Krooked, Anti-Hero) looks out for the big foot niggas like myself. You could find some 8.25 decks at your local skateshop in the Deluxe section. If not just order on some random online skate store.
Yo dude I got a nice 9 3/4 deck new with Independent Wide Trucks and OJ wheels. China bones bearings. All for like 170. This setup is fuggin BAD! In a good way.
If you’re on the west coast I recommend going to this old school skate shop off santa monica blvd. Good people. Friendly service.
Sounds awesome, not that I’ve heard of any of those.
I’ve been working on heelflips a lot lately and landed a few moving the other night (yay) but argh, last night I fell over and injured my knee. When I fall over, it’s always the right knee Oh well.
When I was learning Kickflips I’d always fuck up and hit my board somehow on the inside of my left leg above my ankle. I have a permanent lump because of it. I call it my lump of learn-ed.
So it’s Lutzka in Street, and PLG wins vert. I had a good time, finally skated the Bro bowl in Tampa. Antuwon Dixon got permanently kicked out of the park. “Don’t come back, Antuwon, you aren’t welcome here. Have a nice life” was announced over the microphone after the police escorted him away. crazy stuff.
it has a name… “cabalarial” but its still pretty gross.
when i first started skating I didnt really have internet access or skater friends so I would just do shit thinking i invented it. My greatest accomplishment was the “hardflip body varial” until I saw Baker 2G! Reynolds stole my shit!
also, that flat footed ollie thing is some good advice. Ive grown into the habit of being on my tippie toes ALL the time. it looks bad and makes it impossible to catch tricks on high gaps cause your just knocking the board away.
I think learning tricks stationary is a waste of time. its like learning a street fighter combo on “no block” mode and then learning it for real later. Twice as much work, and you enforce bad habits. Just learn the trick.
Yeah, Jani skated really really well. I don’t have the results, but you can check out everything at skateparkoftampa.com. Whats crazy about Jani that I noticed is that when he skates, it’s like his front foot is always in like a heelflip position with his front toe hanging off. One of his tricks was like an ollie over, almost overcrook nosegrind down the stair rail, he had those on lock. But he’s got good balance and doesn’t look like he just tries a trick and hopes he makes it. He’s a cool dude though.
I’ll have my stuff up soon. A big holdup on my stuff is the footage from the tour, I did a road trip with some Element guys on the way down and the footy is taking a long time to edit.
