AD is a show you have to watch from beginning to end. However, I don’t think a limited number of episodes should preclude a show from being on the list. If we were making a list of dramas, I’d argue to the death that Freaks and Geeks belongs at the top of the list and there are only 18 total episodes of that show…
Fresh Prince had some legitimately gasp-for-air funny episodes (most of them ‘4th-wall’ moments when one of the castmembers act out-of-character), but the rest of the time it was just okay, or entertaining for other reasons… then it had those ‘on a very special Fresh Prince’ eps, where Will tried his acting skills, or somebody other than Will fails to do a decent acting job.
In my sitcom ranking, the top shows of all time always let you know that you were gonna LYAO every time the show aired. There are plenty of real dramas on TV or movies or books that destroy 90% of sitcoms that get all serious on you. With the few exceptions that pulled it off exceptionally well (MASH), sitcoms that try to be serious are just like, ‘okay when does this end.’ I guess I’m weird, but I prefer my comedy to be funny.
Yeah yeah ‘Will’s dad’ episode whatever.
what about the one where they got robbed at an ATM and carlton bought a gun to shoot the guy
hilarious
I’m not one of these guys claiming Arrested Development is the best show of all time like some others, but I did watch the entire series from beginning to end and I really enjoyed it. It’s character driven, like King of the Hill, so until you can appreciate the character nuances you won’t really get the show. It makes it easy to write off, it also means it has no chance at winning the whole thing, but it deserves a spot definitely.
Speaking of King of the Hill, I think it deserves a spot too, but theres so many good shows in the 2000’s that it’s kind of hard to bump one.
This would be my Personal 2000’s list:
2000s
- The Office
- Family Guy
- King of the Hill
- Arrested Development
- Malcolm in the Middle
- Modern Family
- 30 Rock
damn its hard to narrow down, It also is hard because a lot of shows (30 rock, Modern Family) are early in their life and are still fresh, while others (The Office, South Park, Family Guy) are late in their life and are getting stale.
I still feel Full House deserves an 80’s slot over a 90’s one. Although in a huge shocker, I looked up TGIF on wikipedia:
Step by Step, Full House, Family Matters were the three shows I always envisioned as the classic lineup, and they never aired all 4 at the same time on TGIF. We had Full House and Family Matters together, and Family Matters and Step by Step together, but never all 3. I guess I just kind of merged all those years together.
2000s
Everyone is giving reasons for why their show is good which is only half of this idea as i stated when i came up for it. Individually were talking about a few dozen legendary TV shows most of which are S and A tier if you ranked them individually, but the point of this format was to see who would win head to head between legendary shows.
In order for a show to get on the list it has to take something off, If you think it can beat anything on there then just pick one to take a spot from, using whatever criteria you want.
Y’all have to be crazy on saying that Fresh-Prince is overrated. It’s always on TV for a reason I make sure to watch it every year. There’s virtually like no episode that I didn’t like.
2000s were weird to me. Not as many enjoyable shows for me at least compared some of the others ones. The 90’s were the highlight for me. I might say Boondocks for top 2000s. It was both humorous and touched on the subjects dealing with black America. I know a lot of our people find it a disgrace to our people, though a lot of them can’t give me good reason. My eldest brother said that all the characters on the show are a disgrace to black people. He couldn’t tell me how Huey, Tom, Luna, or Martin Luther King apply to that statement.
THANK YOU!!!
I’m glad somebody here said it!

Coupling and Black Books were both great UK 00s shows btw, but sadly neither lasted very long so not really list-material compared to the more epic major shows.
I see very little love for Frasier. But it lasted 264 episodes for a reason :lovin:
One of the few shows that can pull off serious/semi-serious stuff too (as someone wrote about MASH).
2000s
- Curb your enthusiam
- **Family Guy
**4. 30 Rock - How I met your mother
- Scrubs
- Modern Family
- South Park
what the fuck is this shit? family guy is trash since it came back. never watched HIMYM, looks lame. modern family is ok, at best. i like scrubs but half of the series is trash.
Arrested Development is GOAT. who cares if it’s only three seasons? it doesn’t take away from its brilliance. AD shits on that whole list excluding Curb cuz i never seen it but heard great things.
big bang theory is SOOOOOOOOOOOO bad. like bad enough that if nothing is on but that show then i’m turning off the TV, which says a lot since i’m the same person that watched the hill marathon bcuz there was nothing else on.
dilbert was the shit, but it was super short lived. like honestly one of my favorite sitcoms ever was working with fred savage, but i can’t legitimately put it up there with even a show like friends bcuz it was so short lived.
@angrylib, i think longevity matters if we’re talking about sitcoms that don’t have a clear continuous plots and comparing them to other sitcoms.
If you haven’t seen HIMYM you should, i watched the entire series so far for the first time within the last 3 weeks. Its easily one of the best shows of the last decade and half the reason i started this thread
I’m going to lock up the 2000s on Friday and move on to the 90s.
I’ll update the first post with new suggested show later.
Modern Family but no Arrested Development
Get that shit out of here.
imo.
lololol at family guy, 30 rock, making it to the top 8 over AD
lolololololo
Honestly why am I the only one repping community y’all are batshit
2 days left to explain why community is better than one of those shows, if no one can adequately defend it community gets that spot
I notion that The Office replaces 30 Rock. The Office has had a much bigger impact in pop culture. It was the first to really revolutionize the “mockumentary” style that great shows like Parks and Rec and Modern Family use now. Plus it has made “That’s what she said” a verbal phenomenon.
The office vs 30 Rock
Not the easiest show to take off of that list, but challenge extended.
30 Rock’s spot is currently on the line.
Time to weigh in.
