This thread spilled over but the basic idea was to make a tournament out of TVs best sitcoms putting them head to head instead of tiering them individually to see who would come out of top.
The setup was 32 show tournament with 4 brackets divided into 2000s, 90s, 80s and 70s and before,
but since the people got slightly heated at my picks for the 90s bracket i decided to wipe the rest and get opinions and discussion from other people

90s bracket is still open for discussion
order on any bracket does not represent seeding or that one show is higher than another its just the top 8 spots
I’ll respectfully disagree with the first three, but Living single, :looney:
Family matters was epic, but i’m still not sure if it beats anything in the 90s right now head to head.
fairly good
NO, just no, south park maybe
Fresh prince is 90s
Cosby is a lock
A Different world is a nice pick
I was going to go by starting year but a few major 90s sitcom started in 88-89 so It goes by whichever decade the show ran longest in.
I’m not gonna try picking 8 shows for every decade, I’ll just help the discussion t by listing my faves (not in order):
00s
Arrested Development
How I Met Your Mother
Family Guy
Reno 911
Everybody Hates Chris
90s
Married With Children (started in 87 but whatever)
Martin
South Park
Seinfeld (I’m not a huge Seinfeld fan, but I respect that the show, like MWC, was completely comedy… no boring ‘very special’ episodes)
Family Matters
Roc
Simpsons
80s
Cosby
Different World
227
Amen
Family Ties
Threes’ Company
The boondocks is ridiculously awesome, but i’m pretty sure its not top 8.
Jamie Foxx was good but the 90s is probably the toughest bracket overall when i was trying to but this together, 2000s is probably the weakest, and the 80s is wacky.
Damn I can’t believe I forgot Everybody Hates Chris and Roc. I just remembered South Central too, but I’m not sure if it counts since the show seems to be more serious and sad at times than funny.
How good is everybody hates Chris? i’ve only seen about 3 episodes ever.
I’m just adding thing people post to the list since its probably easier to debate the current list than everyone posting a seperate list.
I put i love lucy on the list but i watched a lot of nick at night growing up and that show isn’t even the best lucy show, also it gets stomped by stuff like the likes of get smart and green acres when you go old,old school.
Yeah, Get Smart would definitely knock Lucy off my list, forgot about that one.
Don’t sleep on Jack Benny if you never watched it (or heard the radio show), it’s basically a live-action Looney Tunes and it’s funnier than anything before the 70s imo.
Is Wonder Years really a sitcom, and not a drama with funny moments (not just because it doesn’t have a laugh track)?
It got kind of serious sometimes but it looks like it definitely counted as a comedy overall
Low spot on the 90s now is either Saved by the bell or Martin IMO
Speaking of savages i wish this 90s wasn’t too husky to fit Boy meets world on there, I loved that show except for one thing - FOR ANYONE WHO HAS NEVER BEEN HERE THERE ARE NO TRAILER PARKS IN PHILADELPHIA.
Theres enough shows now for all of the brackets to be filled so if you want your show to make it in you’re going to have to make a case that it can take off one of the shows currently listed in the top 8, with some sort of general concensus from other people that your show is better than the show you want to take off.
You have to consider that not all great series are given a proper burial, when ratings fall off or when networks act like dicks. At the tail end of a series, the network might start toying around with the timeslot, so a show is effectively over at least a season before the last episode airs.
I don’t think most people who watched Jeffersons when it was new would put it in the 80s category-- the subject matter has more in common with 70s shows like Sanford, Whats Happenin, Good Times, Archie Bunker (which Jeffersons spun off from), etc.
