Sirlin.net: "The Anti-Progress Attitude"

It’s worth reading the new article he posted. It’s a lot more reasonably argued than the spraying shit everywhere of the first one.

link?

I think it was posted a while back, but http://www.sirlin.net/blog/2011/8/25/what-is-a-love-letter-to-the-community.html

I want, from this thread, quoted word for word, a post where I told anyone not to play 3S.

Actually, let’s make that from anywhere on this site.

The prize? I won’t make it a point to post in any thread I see you in, just because I know seeing my awesome-ass avvie irritates you.

Go.

“Welp,” - David ‘Sirlin’ Sirlin

Shut the fuck up, specs.

basically people just trying to prove sirlin’s OPINION as “fact” when it’s a fucking OPINION! see HDR for proof that a rebalance does not mean progression of any kind! shittier art and a less enjoyable game. wow how progressive!

How long have you played 3S for? Are you part of the original arcade community, or are you going by hear-say? I’m not saying this in an arrogant manner, it is a genuine question.
The reason why I ask is because in Sirlin’s article, he blew it up as if it was all 8-2 matches, and that isn’t true at all.
The community didn’t ask for more because it’s not nearly as bad as non-3S players make it out to be
People who go by hear-say think that parries are overpowered, and the bad matches are impossible but that isn’t the case at all.
In high rank play, there isn’t random guess-parrying, or matches that are all parried. And it’s not that Yun and Chun are completely unbeatable.

In addition the game has character matches which Yun and Chun don’t necessarily dominate. Eg. Urien vs Chun is an okay match for Urien, but Urien has arguably more difficulty with mid-tier characters like Akuma, Yang, and Ibuki. So if you modify Chun and Yun somehow, you don’t know how the tiers will shift. Look at what happened in HDR; balancing 3S is a lot harder than non-3S players think.

Which brings me to the point about about why Sirlin not liking the game and not being familiar with the game IS COMPLETELY relevant. It’s because he doesn’t know about the game, the intricacies, the game engine with parries, and the matches, that is why he shouldn’t criticize something that he isn’t familiar with at all. That is why I had my analogy with skateboarding.

So, read through all the pages, and this is all I really saw.

1.People that tried to just mention the points Sirlin made, being yelled at.
2.People that are too stupid to have a discussion being yelled at.
3.Fucking morons.

It’s a port. A port is not a new game. Stop talking if you can’t read/don’t understand that simple fact.

I don’t agree with Sirlin on this, but you 3S dudes are just as silly.

Hahaha, care to explain why 3s footsies consists in large part of frantically bobbing up and down just within range of your opponents longest low poke, then?

i’m not going to waste time on you any longer, especially trying to look for your posts. i’ve seen you talk about how the game is terrible and you won’t support buying it even though it uses ggpo. why don’t we take each others advice and be done with this? you see a 3rd strike bashing thread and you just don’t click on it. i see your shitty av and i just don’t read what you posted. deal?

I want to start a petition where you if you call anyone else bad and can’t produce tournament results you get a temp ban.

:confused::rofl:

That’s the thing to me, 3SO is fine as just a port for fun, but its not something you should be taking seriously, unless maybe you’ve been playing it straight through from the old days.

The bigger issue of patching, the point of the original article, kind of got lost over everybody having to prove their loyalty to the OG.

Technically he was right. That list is dominated by Chun and Yun’s with some ken, dudley, and Urien speckled in it. At most he exaggerated it a little but he wasn’t far off.
As far as the article is concerned, I see where Sirlin is coming from. While the main idea was to provide 3rd Strike in an online format it would’ve been neat to make the game with some balances in it. People make it seem like balancing the game is taking away the Third Strike identity which it isn’t. Its no different than the KOF 98 and 02 UM. The tier structure of Third Strike is pretty dumb and that iplaywinner article bringing up japanese players using the other characters is laughable. Yes they do use those characters but really ask yourself, do you think any of those guys would pull out Necro or Alex or how about Twelve at EVO? Probably not.

I’d also be in favor of a temp ban of FADE OUT, specifically, just so he can take a little time and think about his life.

Nobody is forcing anyone to take the game seriously. There are the people that love the game, and there are the butt hurt people that lose to Chun. If the fans want to take it seriously, let them. If the butthurts want to, they need to get over the “new Street Fighter 3” game.

I think I’d rather just do what I said I’d do. See you around!

No seriously, specs, shut the fuck up.
