Been considering trying out Shuma Gorath with the team - Shuma/Strange/Ammy
I figure I’d use Strange’s Bolts as a assist as it discourages jumping if they’re on a ground level and if they remain grounded to go in for a command grab from Shuma. And Ammy’s just a good lock down.
Main issues with the team is that it has no real anti-air except DHC-ing to Strange, but… that’s not very good. Thoughts?
I play that team! Its very good, and its extremely difficult to block against. If you have the execution for optimal shuma and strange combos every touch should get you a kill. No anti air? You are playing shuma, c.h all day. Beats pretty almost any air move in the game if timed correctly(except pipe and long range helm breakers).
Also for strange c.m is actually a very good anti air, and 4H is good for stuff like helmbreakers, pipes, footdive. SoV is great vs any air buttons. And ammy has a counter. That team deals with antiair splendidly.
Its very distance dependent, it works if you are below him or just a little bit in front of him. Although it is hard to time and a bit risky, it is an option. But yeah its unlikely you will ever beat a very low to the ground helmbreaker, unless you are right in his face.
Hey dudes, Shuma quite frequently but I made a Secondary team consisting of Shuma/Firebrand/Strange A-B-Y assist, using this set up if I want to go for air M mystic smash approach, I use the Firebrand assist to help create an wall of hitbox, if I want to wave dash in, or make them impatiant with stares and rays, I use Stranges Bolts assist. Please, what are your opinions?
Thor on point is your best best, having the ability to nullify projectiles with his mighty strike, he would not have to worry about incoming projectiles so much, Shumas mystic ray assist seriously helps Thor out allot but make sure you cover him or make it difficult for the opponent to hit him. MODOK being second means that you can tag him in to stack cubes, which would benefit him greatly, as for an assist for MODOK, Psionic blaster is a safe bet for a beam assist for not just Thor but Shuma too, but experiment with MODOK’s assist and see if you prefer Thor,s mighty spark or mighty smash, give a beam assist to either MODOK or Thor, your call.
With anchor shuma your greatest weapon will be your mix ups and normals, and play it slowly should the opponent have full screen distance from you,(This is assuming Shuma is your last man standing) realize that your zoning tools are not that great compared to other and are only really good for disrupting and throwing off the opponents timing and careless behavior. If you managed to hit them with a mystic stare, the tables are in your favor, depending on what moves the opponent has to dodge the mystic stare bombs, because if means you can start to move in whilst being cautious to not get hit yourself.
Becareful with Shuma anchor, going against a heavy zoner like Hawk eye and tasky your screwed you’ll take so much chip to get in if you get in at all also learn cmd grab set ups and tick throws with +:h: since it takes meter,his st.:l: is only four 4 frames of start up so this makes it really easy, he has the. My assist of choose for DOK is balloon bomb a very under rated, it stays out for a very long time and makes it annoying to get in on you from air or ground.
So could this team potentially work or would it suck? could styles vary? is the synergy good? i wont be able to test anything until the new year taking some time off the game, does anybody have any theorycraft information? cheers!
Has anyone tried out Shuma with Trish and Nova yet? I can imagine that mystic ray assist could help Trish when she is laying traps. With Nova’s Centurian Rush assist, Shuma might be able set up some crazy unblockables with using smash for pressure.
My team: Nemesis(rocket),Shuma(ray), Hulk(Anti Air)
I can TK rockets with Nemesis backed by mystic ray is like a poor mans
Morrigan/ Doom lock down. Plus, Hulk can play really aggressive with ray behind him but shuma
Gains no benefit from either assist really.
I cannot get in at all with Shuma. Any ideas that don’t involve dropping any characters?
a) mystic ray assist is only REALLY good for specific makeups
b) shuma belongs either 1st or 2nd.
That said, I"m kind of torn between three teams.
Spencer/Shuma/Doom - i get doom missiles which i hear is pretty good for shuma, and for spencer it basically allows me TODs on almost all the cast for 1 meter. what i dont like is that i dont feel like it allows shuma the ability to pressure effectively. also horizontal shot assist is cool but hard to convert off of with shuma. like really hard to hit confirm. Looks like the team does great damage but definitely seems like it has problems gettign in. Even spencer backed by mystic ray is far from what i would say is optimal.
Shuma/Frank west/haggar - i really like shopping cart assist for shuma. Also, saw this video [media=youtube]DpPyrgFOY0U[/media]
was pretty impressed. i still feel like it leaves poor anchors in the back, and that it would have a lot of problems getting in.
Modok/Haggar/Shuma - Bulbamike’s team. I think Modok is one of my better characters and Haggar will TOD off of any hit because of the assist extensions, but this means shuma in the back.
Shuma is a work in progress for me. I guess i’m more prone to develop teams 1 and 2 because it will offer me more playtime with shuma (ie not as anchor) so i can improve my execution and neutral with the character. however, i feel like the teams may have some glaring weaknesses tat i’m not realizing yet. additionally, especially for teams 1 and 2, i’m wondering if anyone has had any substantial experience with an assist like mystic stare? i’im wondering if i can get some wild combo/mixup potential with that.
TLDR What team is the best out of the 3, and what assists?
i recently picked UMVC3 back up and the team im trying to learn at the moment is Iron Fist(Rising Fang)/Shuma-Gorath(Mystic Ray)/Amateratsu(Cold Star). i play patient with IF, as you have to, using Shuma assist to keep my opponent honest since it covers almost the entire screen then once im in use cold star to keep my opponent locked down.
IF is an amazing battery since he builds almost 2 meters with a full combo and Shuma has great DHC’s/THC’s off of IF combos. also if Shuma gets put on point i have IF assist to get opponents off me and Amy assist to keep then in block stun while i go for high low mix ups.
Really like Wolverine Frank Shuma. Wolverine can level up frank without the need of a tac with any clean hit using these assist, and I feel these two of the top 6 assist for him (Drones, Tatsu, Plasma Beam, jam session no particular order). Shuma can level up frank mulitple ways as the video posted earlier shows and carts a great assist for gorath. Not the best anchors but they’re fun
Hey guys I’ve been working on the shell X/Shuma/Strange and I’m totally digging the synergy between Strange and Shuma. I’m looking for a point character but I’m not sure who really fits. I’ve tried Spidey, Ghost Rider, and Iron Man but only Spidey has decent synergy. I’m not sure who really benefits from Shuma’s Mystic Ray assist or has good DHC synergy with him.
You could try the Shuma/Dorm/Strange lineup and see how that works.
Shuma can use dark hole up close for instant overheads and bolts to make air mystic smash safe. Dorm also gets bolts for teleport mixups and the stagger helps charge spells from full screen.
The other way around is less optimal but sure is fun, even Thor works well with that setup (Bolts to help confirm and mystic ray for SSS enders)
based off the characters you listed i’d keep trying spidey out. you have a great lockdown assist for him with stranges eye of aggie. and a great space controlling assist with shumas mystic ray. spidey doesnt really need help getting in because he’s so mobile but you do wanna be able to keep your opponent on the ground so you can get something going on them. shumas assist does that. then once your on them and start blockstrings you can call strange assist to keep them lock down for your high low mixups. then just learn spideys resets and your golden. spidey is also a great battery for shuma since he needs a lot of meter to actually maximize the dmg he can put out. as for strange i think he’s honestly a very underrated character, maybe not the best anchor but he can kill any character in the game with a simple air grab super xfactor, impact palm loops.
So to guy above asking about Trist/Nova/Shuma, I’ve actaully been playing this team since I been working on trist/nova+assist and I don’t want to play lots of the common assists. The combo seems good in theory but it has a glaring weakness. If you use shuma assist to open someone up with trist like you would need to, he can only get like 260k damage before hard knock down, so you can set up unblockable but will struggle getting ToD with trish unblockable. Same thing with Nova, you can’ get ToD with nova if u use shuma to open someone up.
