I understand your frustration. I play a Nem/Shuma/Sent team. Once Nemesis dies, I know Sentinel will be the one I need to rely on because my Shuma is very weak. Mystic Ray assist is great. I use it like a ghetto Vajra. Nemesis can confirm off Mystic Ray and generally makes his bad match-ups more tolerable. The team order would be much better if Shuma was the anchor, but as an anchor, he has a ton of bad match-ups. I will probably keep Shuma in the second position and swap out Sent for Strange.
The issue is, Shuma needs to be run on point, but the assist is too good to pass up. (Plus, Shuma was my favorite MVC2 character)
.
Read this board. Discover what people who run Shuma feel are his best assists, and try to improve your Shuma play.
What you need is a lock down or beam assist to cover some of shumas weak point against high mobility and zoning characters, I like Nemesis too but put him on another team, try to work with this team order Shuma/Dormammu/???. good lock down assist for Shuma are Akumas tatsu, Ryu HK powered up/ Shopping cart, cold star and Hsien-kos Shenpu-Bu when the chracter gets locked down do his TK Mystic Smash :l: for an instant overhead. His best beam assist are Iron man, Task Master, Magneto,Zero Hadangeki powered up and Rocket Raccoon spit fire. These assist help Dormy also with combo extensions and teleport mix ups. Its also good to have a zoning character on your team cuz thats one of Shuma and Dormammus weaknesses they can get Zoned out especially by Hawk Eye. Other than that learn to convert combos from air throws and Command throws, Shuma has one of the strongest throws in the game you have to learn to do this. Learn corner carry combos, the corner is where Shuma is the deadliest if an in coming character makes a wrong guess on a mix up Shuma has to potential to TOD them with no assist no x-factor no lvl 3 hyper
Master his charge combos this is key to Shumas big Dmg, dont let anyone say they are not practical in high stress situations cuz they all are practical just not for them. Learn to switch out Shuma when you see a bad match up with Hyper Mystic Smash. Learn some cheap( hard to block) tactics on incoming characters. For instance if you have Dormammu in and you just killed a character in the corner and you have meter throw out a stalking flare then lay down a flame carpet beneath it then hard tag Shuma in once they fall in the flame carpet after the Stalking flare is done do a TK Mystic Smash :l: which should look like :d::df::f::uf::l:. do the same when ever they are caught with your lock down assist and they are not chicken blocking.
All right thanks. So Dormammu is after all a legit combination. The 3rd slot is the problem. I put Nemesis there as a filler and I really really suck with him. I don’t bother learning the charge things yet as I’d first like to learn the game.
Just so you know, I am a smasher so I suck at fighters and I’d like to learn this game and this game is really crazy so it’s really hard for me. At a very very low level I should just play with other people until I eventually get it right?
And who be your recommendation for the 3rd slot? I don’t want anything too hard because Shuma already takes a lot of effort.
Defiantly play other ppl, you can’t get good by playing the cpu cuz its cheap unless you just want to practice combos and also watch matches with high level players who use your characters. 3rd slot I would put Task Master he doesn’t have cray high execution combos and he’s a jack of all trades in play styles like zoning and rush down.
I played against a good player last night and the improvement and information I got almost blew my mind! It’s true playing is the best way to improve. I don’t like Tasky though so I tried Amaterasu, but he seems kinda complicated for the moment >_>
Now I don’t know what to do, I’ll probably stick to Nemesis until I get Ama basics down so I can begin using her in a real match.
So I’m playing Cap’n(charging star,), Shuma(ray), and Trish(peek-a-boo). The DHC synergy is wonderful and trish and shuma cover captain very effectively. My problem is I don’t know how to get an offense started with Shuma. How does one get in?
I’ve absolutely fallen in love with Shuma as my assist for my team, which is Hulk (Gamma Charge) / Haggar (Lariat) / Shuma (Ray). Though I haven’t gotten Shuma himself down yet, he’s been the perfect addition for what my team needed, as he is that all-important beam for Hulk/Haggar to approach and make moves safer, he appears behind the characters so it’s harder to catch him, and, most importantly, his beam is an OTG for Hulk’s command grab, which is the sole reason I decided to use him as my assist over Sent’s drones.
Sure, I’m sacrificing plenty by putting Shuma on anchor, but he strengthens the other two characters soooo much.
Mystic Smash on the ground (covered by a lockdown/beam) or in the air (same thing). You can still use a lockdown up close and use TK Mystic Smash :l: to cross up (instant overhead) and cause chaos. His cr. hit’s twice and his cr. :h: is a great anit-ait that’s jump cancel able.
He’s a literal demon in the corner so learn his charge combos and corner shenanigans. You can dominate the corner and TOD people on incoming without X-Factor, no assists, and without a level 3. You have to play lame but once you get the hang of him, you’ll love the lord of chaos.
I was thinking about running Shuma Gorath (Mystic Ray)/xx/Dormammu (Dark Hole)
I was thinking that either Ryu, Captain America (Shield Slash semi-beam/lockdown), Frank West, and/or Iron Man (may on anchor with Unibeam) would be good people to pick.
Shuma/Dorm/Ironman is the team of a decent japanese shuma player. It has good synergy, just use that.
If you need taskmaster, put him at the end. Shuma / Dorm / XX is a good shell not because of assists but because of the DHC.
This is all assuming you want shuma on point of course.
Opinions on best shuma team (point because he sucks anywhere else). Shuma/doom/ammy is my team, and it’s great, but it’s really shitty vs zoning teams since doom and shuma are both donkey piss at getting in vs zoning.
I play Shuma/Spencer/Doom. I don’t mind playing against zoning teams as I am pretty patient on fighting teams like that. I don’t mind the chip damage either. Just need to be patient and get that 1 hit which probably is going to be a dead character.
You shouldn’t be getting the hit is the thing. I understand that mentality, but it’s inherently flawed since good zoning will not allow you to have any sort of approach. Even if you do get in, most zoning characters can just throw you out of any mystic smash. I wonder who’s bright idea it was to make mystic smash grabable =/. The character’s approach is just too shitty.
Shuma’s closing in approach game is ass and I can say that too even though I love that tako so much. But even so, I don’t think its exactly flawed to have that kind of mentality though. I mean, I can be quite the theory fighter as well. Morrigan/Doom and just Chris G in general is considered “good zoning” but even so he still gets beaten sometimes even against teams that don’t deal that great with keep away tactics/zoning. I mean its Marvel. Sometimes this doesn’t work, sometimes that doesn’t work. You might get hit by anything at times.
There’s times where I lose with Shuma and still win with Spencer/Doom too but I’m just saying, its very well possible to get that hit if you’re just patient and don’t mind taking the chip damage.
Shuma doesn’t have that “random” effect though like those other characters that chris g gets hit by do. He has no teleport, fullscreen normals, or random yolo moves that trade in his favor and convert into full combos.
Heh, that’s the reason I run with the team I do (beyond the fact that I just really like playing all 3 characters)… Shuma and Haggar are both fantastic at leveling Frank alone, but the two of them combined can have any clean hit (and even a few dirty ones) pull Frank all the way up to L5 with proper application of lariat, pipes, eyes, raw tags, and mid-combo drinking (not all at the same time, of course) with the only meter spent being the DHC after the fact for damage (or to get rid of the drink). Too bad i still need to work on actually getting the hit, and try to not be shut down so hard by zoning teams…
