Silly Fleshings!: The Shuma-Gorath Team Building Thread

I have been running haggar(a)/shuma(a)/arthur(b) shumas ray helps defend and set up haggars hoodlum launcher m. daggers are decent enough to help shuma cross up with air mystic smash. I’m not sure how well shuma will do in the 2nd slot without the threat of xfactor he will probably end up being a battery for dark arthur.

In the time I played MvC3, I used Hulk/Shuma/Akuma. Hulk and shuma = BFF’s, seriously. Mystic ray can help Hulk get in, make his st.H safe, and extend combos (like hulk’s command throw, dash call mystic ray, dash and continue combo). Gamma charge will let Shuma DHC into any of his hypers (will do most damage in corner of course) and they’re both green! If you know how to use both of those characters, try it! (I only had Akuma there as an achor).

Just bought PS3 and this game with it. Still new to fighting games other than Smash so it’s still quite tough for me. My current team is Spidey(a)/Shuma(a)/Dorm(a)
Is that good enough? Also does Shuma suck?

Sup y’all, I was kinda wondering if y’all could help me make a decision regarding team building. I’m running shooms with dorm as anchor, and I like it. I’m kinda on the fence about who to put in the second slot though. I’m debating between doc strange and Dante. I know both have great chaos dimension setups with their assists, but I’m curious who you think shuma gets more out of other than that. Any opinions / thoughts would be great. I’m also considering running Dante on point and shuma second if I end up picking Dante. He’s got a better neutral game and can build some nice meter for shuma to get at least one chaos dimension in. I’m also kinda trying to think of possible combos going from either HMS or HMR to devil trigger to combo. Haven’t really labbed it yet, but I probably will. If I find anything interesting I’ll let y’all know

Shuma needs something to help his approach. Everyone can get use out of Jam Session but I have had a little bit of success using Bolts of Balthakk and Daggers to cover mystic smash.

What do you guys think of Iron Man/Shuma/Felicia and Nemesis/Shuma/Felicia?

Nemesis is the heavy hitter while Shuma provides a good assist to get in. Rolling buckler helps open people up with instant overheads.
I’m not really sure what to think of my Iron Man team though.

alright so i’m running wesker/?/shuma not in that order but this recurring problem of getting inside with shuma rears its ugly head again… i was considering using cap since he hits hard as hell and his shield assist negates beams, so i was thinking about getting inside with that. any suggestions, things i should look into or even general character changes to help me get inside and stay inside?

I think I’ve found my favorite shuma team. It may not be the “best” for him nor loaded with enough cheapness, but I like it and have fun with it.
Shuma/Frank/Strider w/ray/cart/vajra
dhc’s pretty well in any position, thc’s well, all assists compliment each character decently, a million ways to level up frank, mystic ray/stare spam with vajra coming down can be frustrating for many matchups, can be risky and run strider on point for some crazy mixups as well as frank on point if I feel like playing a more methodical match.
Also, one tac and frank is at level 5 anywhere on the screen, sometimes even if I cut the combo short (for online lag purposes, hsd, etc.)
The only part I dislike is it is extremely hard, nigh impossible for shuma to combo off a vajra that has hard knockdowned the opponent. Also, pure keepaway teams can be troublesome, but a well timed vajra can usually get shuma in there to do his thing.

I am currently using Shuma on point with Doom Molecular Shield assist (as I did in MVC2). I’m relatively new to MVC3 Shuma, but he seems like a lot of fun and the combo vids featuring him are flashy as. I find that Molecular shield helps Shuma’s neutral game, and I am still in the market for a third character. What do you think of molecular shield for Shuma?

How would Shuma fit in between a Mags/Doom shell? I’ve been searching for a character to put in the middle of this team for a while now and most of the obvious answers are characters that I don’t really care for. Shuma’s a character that I’ve wanted to play for a while but for some I never got around to playing around with him, and after trying him for a while I’d really like to try and make him work. The synergy between Mags and Doom is pretty obvious and I’m thinking Shuma probably benefits from Hidden Missiles a lot as well (who doesn’t?). The part I’m not so sure about is the synergy between Mags and Shuma. They seem to DHC to each other just fine but I’m not so sure about the assists. If anyone has experience with this particular team or a similar one, your opinion would be greatly appreciated.

Shuma should really be on point since he’s a TOD character, Shumas hyper mystic ray and hyper mystic smash DHC into Mags shock wave good since they both OTG. Hyper Mystic smash is his most damaging hyper but dont use it in the corner cuz most of the orbs fly over the opponents head so hyper mystic ray works best here and transitions good into magnetic tempest. As far as assist go Hidden missiles are good but shuma has a little bit of a hard time protecting assist that stay on the screen for awhile. the best way to utilize the missiles is to zone them with M ray till the missiles reach then close the distance with :m: mystic smash which lands in front of them and start using c.:l: or go for a TK :l: mystic smash for a quick over head. use :h: mystic smash on advanced guards to continue his assault. Try not use Mystic smash from long distances with out being covered. Mystic ray assist Makes mags and Dooms zoning game supreme mags quick disruptor and repulsion mixed with mystic ray and missiles if the opponent has nothing to fight this its like a 10-0 match up they really cant do anything its cheap but thats Marvel, exploit weaknesses.

Shuma with stranges bolts assist is so nice. The staggering of the bolts allows for a quick overhead if they block low, or if they stay high go low (or command grab between bolts)

it makes mystic smash safe.

Also another cool thing with the bolt is that since it has slow start up I like to do M.Smash :m: or :h: after i call the assist this gets DR Strange off the screen and the bolt appear after you land you will be surprised how many ppl get caught by this especially online.

ah yeah, i do that, but i need to start doing it from the ground, I tend to jump to much i think

Not sure if im the only one who’s tried this team comp but Shuma/Dok/Skrull with Ray/Bomb/Tenderizer is pretty great. skrull and dok are already beastly considering his tenderizer locks up incoming characters into his goo-overhead unblockables. (Guess shuma could do the same into Lv3) DHCs work well and if your execution is good enough, theres a shuma tac unblockable and a modok TAC infinite and a skrull infinite but thats pushing it. Dok’s infinite durability bomb helps protect shuma getting in and otg’s to extend combos if needed (although it has a slow startup). The counter grab could be a safe DHC from shuma’s taunt stance like skrulls armor on his skrull torch. lots of other stuff, but im pretty new so help/tips would be appreciated :stuck_out_tongue:

I tried that team but I switched Sentinel for Nemesis so now I run it Shuma (mystic ray)/Nemesis (closeline launcher)Arthur(fire bottle)

Oh, that thing still has infinite durability? I thought they changed that with Ultimate… Now thats really helpful for Shuma to overcome zoning!

Any thoughts on shuma/storm synergy? Storm’s whirlwind pushes opponents to the corner shuma commences to beat some ass. Plus whirlwind keeps them standing and doesn’t scale very hard. Also, shuma helps storm zone with mystic ray. DHCs and THCs are great. Suggestions/ thoughts?

Sounds cool, I think im going to test that out i’ll use iron man repulser blast assist to take advantage of both of their overheads and mixups.

So apparently Shuma is a bad character. That is a shame to hear as he is by far my favorite character and I will never drop him, especially not after spending 5€ on him. My current team is Nemesis/Dormammu/Shuma and I don’t think it’s too good and I suck with all of them.
I am at a point where I can without much trouble, kill Dormammu and Nemesis to build a good team around Shuma to keep him decent. I want to rep this character in a game I have no understanding of. I’m not sure if I want to generic Doom with missiles kind of a team, but I guess I’ll need to get something good to keep him going. I lose to Phoenix Wrights for fucks sake.
