Who’s a good anchor?

so as of now ive been flip-flopping between these teams

tasky(a)/shuma(a)/sent(a)
tasky(a)/shuma(a)/hulk(a)

but i cant decide who to keep as third on my team, i also constantly put doom (b) but i just cant make up my mind , not sure if i should sacrifice the power of sent or hulk for the mobility of doom, because most of the time when they are last they get caught by faster characters.

Well one thing I’ve been experimenting with lately that you could use for sentinal assist. Shuma actually has 2 really good instant overheads that you can use once you have forced them to block drones. The TK mystic smashes which are alright but actually take some start up and in some wierd situations don’t let you keep comboing. The other instant overhead is jump then s, its so fast its crazy it comes out instantly and almost no one can see it in time to block on reaction. Then have an assist that lasts long enough for shuma to combo like drones and wah la great high low mixups thats 100% safe behind sentinal assist or ryu tatsu assist or cold star etc.

The big advantage hulk probabily has is he lets you combo off grabs more easily. Shuma can typically jump s after a grab with an assist call to combo after the grab, but this doesn’t work with sentinal at all. I assume it would work with at least one of hulks assist.

Im trying a team of Spidey, Hulk, And Shuma. Mystic Ray is so good for this team. Paired with Hulks OTG, one spidey web throw can cause massive damage. Also allows Hulk to combo off a tornado throw! Plus they all DHC well enough. Question is how good is Shuma as an Anchor? Spidey has to be point because his weak assist, Hulk is not a good anchor because his lack of mobility so im hoping Shuma can hold his own. Thoughts on the team? Im not gonna use hulks anti air btw because of the web throw shenanigans

^ Can Shuma work as an OTG for Hulk’s normal combos? If so I might give that team a try.

Shuma’s assist has lot of start up so if you plan on using this assist you can’t just do air combo ending in S land assist. You have to call the assist before you kncok them to the ground or something else to by time for the assist. Shuma is a pretty good anchor because his air mystic smashes are very fast and can cross up even with them spamming advance gaurd. He also has alot of good tricks with his lvl 3 super like lvl 3 super X-factor activate lvl 3.

BTw if you want a super simple lvl 2 or 3 xfactor combo that will KO lots of characters it can go like this.

Lvl 3: c.:l: c.:m: c.:h: :s: j.:m: (1 hit preferably) j.:qcf::h: land :s: j.:m: j.:qcf::h: land :s: j.:m: j.:qcf::h: land :s: j.:m: j.:m: j.:h: j.:u::h: j.:qcf::m: You can end this with air S into super if you want but this combo does like 1.1 mill without super.

Lvl 2: just cut out one of the (j.:m: j.:qcf::h: land :s:) easy way to remember it is in 3 relaunches for lvl 3 xfactor, 2 relaunches with lvl 2.

The reason I love this combo is that its very easy and very similiar to my BnB, also hit stun to start combo is irrelevant, could start from a j.M. or mystic smash into the combo. Also since you aren’t really using meter and it builds a considerable amount, pop chaos dimension after they die and land unblockable x-factor chaos dimension on next char. You do need to realize that against smaller characters in mid-screen it switches direction but you should have plenty of time to notice and account for it.

Better yet if you aren’t in xfactor yet you can do this combo.

This is also helpful since it gives you an x-factor combo that is useable if you catch a point and assist character. Again follow the 2 relaunched for lvl 2, 3 relaunches with lvl 3.

No, but Hulk can otg himself with gamma wave. From there call Mystic ray and then either H, Gamma wavexxGamma Crush or h gamma charge, into gamma crush. This is all assuming you’re in the corner. Shuma does otg off a tornado throw into a full combo :slight_smile:

Good info. Pretty much Im using hulk and spidey alt till they die, then shuma is on an island. So its important that he be useful in level 3 xfactor When the others are still alive, I use his assist to get in, web throw otg, hold them in place between wave and chargeXXcrush. and to otg tornado throws into full combos. Anyhow i think otging after hulk combos into another combo arent useful because they normally tech out after a certain amount of hits.

I have a suggestion and general info for people using shuma’s mystic ray assist. You can actually catch alot of people by calling shuma assist dashing(or moving forward somehow) and throwing a super unsafe move that is easily blocked. Your opponent will go to punish and get hit by the mystic ray and you can prolly land a combo off it. If you can get the timing for this tact down it is incredibly effective, even top players(top 8) I played at Powerup would fall for this trick even after I used it on them. I only knowing the timings for wolvie’s mystic smash and a dash into regular fireball with akuma but both have paid dividends for me. Just be careful cause if they pick off the assist you will eat a combo, why I like it with wolvie so much incase this happens I can always berzerker charge to safety.

This is very effective with shuma since the assist takes lots of time to start up but the beam is to fast to on reaction block, especially since he doesn’t say anything before the assist. Also he comes in behind you so he’s easy to hide. This is the same kind of strat that the Sent/hiddmissle assist players use to abuse pre-patch. Other beam assist can’t do this because the start up is to fast this option is not available to most teams and people will not be prepared for it.

Wesker(samurai Edge)/Shuma(Mystic Smash)/Haggar(Lariat of the Gods) so far. I’m using the mystic smash assist because the ray assist is so slow on startup.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thinking about dropping spidey and going with a more effective Hulk, Dorm, Shuma team. Ray still has all the benefits listed for hulk before, and allows teleport cross up combo’s with Dormammu. That being said, who should I anchor with? Shuma or Dorm? I feel Dorm gets more out of shuma’s assist then vice versa

My main team is Captain America/Shuma/Iron Man, all alpha. Not exactly top tier, lol… I use the Shuma assist as AA and as an OTG in the corner for Cap… I use Iron Man assist in crossup attempts with both Cap & Shuma. We will see how it fares at CEO 2011 this weekend :stuck_out_tongue:

Hay I just started playing MVC3…yeah kida late with UMVC3 and everything but anyway. I want to make a Shuma team. So Far I have Shuma with Mystic Ray and that’s it really. People have told me that I should ether use Dormammu(his otg assist) or Ammy(ice assist) and I don’t have a third spot what dose shuma need and who would work well for this team.

I don’t think either of those charactesr works well for shuma on point, well maybe ammy’s would be ok. The best assist for shuma is more of a type. Shuma has difficulty getting in on an opponent horizontally speaking, this also makes keepaway very difficulty to deal with as shuma on point. For these reasons you want a good horizontal control assist that is reasonably safe. Personally Akuma works great cause I can also create awesome corner lock down and I can reliably his his assist in combos. Ryu tatsu,skrull orbital, irron man unibeam, Dr. doom plasma or rocks, Storm WW, modok laser, chris gun, arthur daggers all work decent for this prupose.

If you want to do well with shuma on point, akuma is definitely the way to do.

I’d be interested in playing some other good Shuma players, or showing newer players some cool stuff.

Shuma G!(a)/X-23(b)/Iron Man(a)

This is what I finally boiled my team down to today. My main question is whether or not I should switch Shuma and 23 in regards to order. I was trying desperately to fit Viper into 23’s spot, but one of us was falling short of cohesion. I really liked Viper’s OTG, but I just couldn’t get the ball rolling on the team.

Suggestions/Glaring things that I’m missing?

x-23 should go first… shuma doesn’t benefit from her assists
