Silly Fleshings!: The Shuma-Gorath Team Building Thread

I have trouble with Mystic Ray OTG too so I stick with Sent RP.

I’ve been messing around with Shuma[Ray],Hulk[Wave],Sent[RP] but I want to switch out Hulk or Sent and learn someone new.

Any suggestions?

I know this will be unpopular, or “wtf”, but I’ve been running Shuma / Felicia / Doom. Somehow I don’t find Shuma+X-23 to work together as well as initially speculated, yet Felicia seems to fill out the slot much better. Meanwhile Doom has obvious advantages, although probably the highest learning curve of the 3 to use efficiently. I’ll probably change the team soon, but thus far I find it to be the best compromise.

Been playing around with Tron (gustaf fire), Shuman (mystic ray), Dorm (dark hole)… seems to be working fairly well so far, I know it feels like i’m robbing myself of Tron’s great assist, but I really like her on point and Shuma’s assist really helps her get in on guys and she just builds meter like crazy, which is the main reason I like her on point. I may tinker with Shuma on point, but I don’t think Tron/Dorms assist will help him get in on zoning characters that much.

I’m working on Chris (Gunfire) / Shuma (Mystic Ray) / Haggar (Double Lariat)

I don’t really think Shuma needs an OTG assist as long as you have something that will hold an opponent after an OTG Mystic Ray –

I’d imagine that …, Double Lariat, Mystic Ray M, Chaos Dimension, M, S, …etc

Would work, but that’s just a theory. Correct me if I’m wrong.

That does work. I actually use the H Mystic Ray for OTGs, though, because the timing makes it so that the ray ends and you are able to move right about when your assist is about to stop hitting.

I’ve been fooling around with Deadpool (Katanarama)/Shuma (Mystic Smash)/Storm (Whirlwind).

I like Deadpool for the OTG and that he’s good at running and feels decent on offense, and Smash seems to help both Storm and Deadpool on offense. Shuma gets the OTG from Deadpool and Whirlwind in case I need to clear out/counteract zoning to get in. Storm benefits from the OTG and the rushdown aid. And I like Storm as anchor because level 3 X Factor + Hail Storm = lolbullshit.

At least, that’s how it breaks down in my mind. I’m still messing around and I’ve only begun to work with Storm.

Course, Shuma can OTG folks on his own. I dunno. I’m honestly just excited about Shuma and I like Deadpool’s gameplay.

So it’s basically agreed Shuma benefits from an OTG assist? If so, I’ll update the first post accordingly.

mystic ray assist is GODLIKE.

i’m rocking dormammu, shuma, sentinel for fun and dormammu benefits from this assist so much.

you can sorta pillar spam with this assist. they try to air dash over and get hit by mystic ray assist.

Currently running with Arthur/Shuma/Doom

Thanks for the confirmation and suggestion.

I’m running this team through the lab for the next few weeks – I find I’ve learned more in a few friendly matches (even losing) with friends than in training, so I’m trying to add in a lot more practice against players while learning.

I’ve been trying Doom(Plasma Beam)/Tron(Fire)/Shuma-Gorath(Mystic Ray).

I always like Doom on point because his loop combos do amazing meterless damage to people, and with fire assist it’s very easy to push people back to the corner or start a ground combo to launcher.

Tron Builds meter incredibly well and with mystic ray/plasma beam she has no trouble getting in with j.:h:. These two assists also work well extending her OTG combos.

I have Shuma as an anchor simply because he can decimate anyone with X-factored Chaos Dimension, which with Tron proceeding he’s almost guaranteed to have when he comes out.

My only problem is I find if I’m down to JUST Shuma (no assists) people have been just running away from my X-factor. Or full screen Beam/hyper spamming. Superjump just seems to float me towards them at a leisurely pace and anyone can just walk over to where you took off and continue spamming.
Any tips?

Dear laimo,

First off I think tron is not a charactre you want on point since her j.:h: is easy to stop if you’ve tested stuff in training mode. For instance c.:h: for shuma or S for wolvie easily beats tron j.:h: and most chars can jump block the j.:h: and then airgrab her afterwards. Anyways she can be effective if you bait this kind of thing with a beam assist but so can a million other combinations.

Down to the real business, what to do against runaway against shuma. First off popping x-factor should be in one of four situations with shuma, a) extend a combo for KO b) to cancel block stun for a free combo and KO c) To set up an inescapable chaotic dimension for a KO d) worse case scenario is avoid a chip death. Just popping xfactor randomly is pointless and should be avoided. Anyways this is a general point about xfactor lets get down to shuma specifics.

Air medium mystic smash is a really good friend, that and ground heavy smash and air light smash, realize you don’t have to use them as you jump you can wait until after they cross under you before you use them. The air light is for those people that think they can dash under your air mediums. This idea of using light air mystic smash is really good for baiting counter supers or the like.

Now if you are stuck against someone zoning with projectiles don’t super jump if possible with shuma. You can actually easily jump and airdash above their porjectile hit. For instance mags/doom’s will try and hit you with a beam as you land from a normal jump, air dashing right before their porjectile heights makes them miss and gets you alot closer or you can cancel the dash into a mystic smash if they can’t on reaction super it like deadpool or ironman. This method also keeps them from dashing under you or trying to random super you as you can easily block or air attack.

If they are content to just keep dashing back and you can’t do anything when they backed into corner before they escape, a xfactor heavy mystic smash is usually so fast these types can’t dash from it, just realize they will advance gaurd and make a break for it, meaning keep on them dash at them or mystic smash or something to keep them close.

It takes alot of practice with shuma to beat some crappy keepaway stuff, personally to learn how to dal with this situation I just played with shuma on point a bunch. If they are just casual or online matches who cares who wins, its about learning and when you put him on point you learn so much faster. If you can get past keep away with normal shuma its 100x easier for xfactor.

P.s. another trick against some chars, after you jump then dash trying holding back and doing a mystic stare as you land, it will beat out alot of porjectiles and now gives you a window of attack with bomb timings. (just don’t try it against doom/task/deadpool)

I’ve been thinking of a team to put together with shuma. So far I only have task/ Shuma. I need a viable third character for the team but I’m not sure who to put in. I’m thinking of tron but she’s not an amazing anchor.

Also, what do you guys think of shuma in this team?:

Wekser (samurai)/ Shuma(Mystic Ray)/ Magnus (EMD)

I know magneto and wesker work really, really well together but I don’t know if it would be wise to keep shuma in the mix.

How does Hulk on point work with shuma as 2nd and storm as 3rd?
Whirlwind assist to get in? or mystic ray? My plan is to get ppl cornered with Hulk go for the command throw Shuma’s assist into combo to the another corner and then go for another command throw

is shuma better as the middle man or an anchor?

Middle.

my current setup

Arthur(Fire Bottle)
Shuma-Gorath(Mystic Ray)
Doctor Doom(Molecular Shield)

at the moment shuma’s my anchor
but i might switch that up

Holy crap I use that team too. I love it! The best part about it is if you learn how to use Tasky’s and Shuma’s long chain of combos you could end up with enough meter to snap Phoenix in and XF+Chaos Dimension for free.

Taskmaster/dorm/wesker/phoenix/magento go well with any teammate.

Shuma-Gorath (Mystic Ray)
Hsien-Ko (Senpuu Bu)
Ryu (Tatsumaki)

My main team. Seems to be doing pretty well for me.
