Currently messing with Shuma(Mystic Ray)/Dormammu(Dark Hole)/Doom(Hidden Missiles). I’ll tinker with the Doom assist, might make it Molecular Shield or Plasma Beam, I can see them helping out a little more and being slightly less punishable.
Really like that most people are gravitating towards Arthur/Shuma and Dormammu/Shuma synergy.
I’m trying to put a really abstract team together for Shuma. It’s all theory as of right now, because I’m at work so all I can do is think of things that MIGHT work, but I can imagine Shuma working well with X-23 and another battery, preferrably with good health. I’d be using Ray and Ankle for their assists, so I am looking for one to back them up, I guess. Doom’s missiles might help Shuma get close, Chris might be good for spammy characters, or I could use Spencer because… he’s Spencer. Or I could go for something extremely abstract and slap Thor in there.
What do you guys think? Is there an assist I should be going for, in particular?
for awhile now i thought that akuma would be the true member of my team that i was looking for but as soon as i tried out shuma’s mystic ray assist

that thing covers arthur better then tron’s flamethrower haggar’s lariat or akuma’s tatsu
and best of all i don’t have to wait for them to get in arthur’s face to use it
Shuma could use a good low assist since tiger kneed air Mystic Smash hits overhead and you’d get some nice unblockables. Spencer is cool but he really doesn’t provide much as an assist outside of wall bouncing. Again, I like Doom rocks better since Doom is protected at first and you can easily move along with the rocks. Missiles are a decent option, but it’s risky because of how long he stays out plus they can sometimes mess up your combos.
Doom Rocks might be a damn good choice… They can most likely juggle for a relaunch after an OTG Ray, which could lead to an even bigger combo if Ankle assist could OTG after all of that, but they would probably pop out immediately… Hmm…
Chris’ “open fire” could work simply because of how fast it is. How’s Thor’s spark assist? I’ve honestly never used it. Haha.
Mighty Spark is okay. It has really slow startup, which is why Chris’s Gun Fire assist is better out of the two. Then again, it’s so fast that it does little to provide a lot of cover.

I’ve been running spidey (a) shulk(a) shuma(a) with mixed results. they can all dhc into each other though maximum spider to she hulk’s drop kick takes very strict timing. Crawler Assault DHC’s better as long as you do it before the wall bounce.
Shuma’s mystic ray assist is very interesting. It allows spidey to combo MS after a web throw anywhere on the screen. Call shuma as soon as you can and wait for the beam to start traveling and input MS if you do it right spidey will grab them out of the air.
EDIT: Mystic ray is also a good anti air and zoning assist. Its speed can interrupt other character’s start ups and if they try and super jump they’ll be hit out of the air. If you’re already moving as you call it you can get some cover but you have to be going full speed to get the benefit.
I have not been able to get Shuma to otg after an air combo no matter how slow or how many hits I input in unless the opponent is in the corner. It allows for relaunches (although it puts the opponent up to high so spidey does not land in time to get a she hulk otg) Mystic Ray also allows Spidey to combo into Crawler Assault after an air combo in the corner which for my team is amazing. This assist is more a GTFO me than a lockdown beam like Doom or Iron Man. Shuma generally comes out behind your point character and will interrupt the opponent’s attacks if you get combo’d. It is relatively fast but its hit stun is minimal limiting its use as an approach assist. If it hits and you are quick you should be able to some air to air strings.
She hulk hits otg generally anywhere mystic ray doesn’t and it is very long range allowing you to call her instant SJ to AD.S and get some unblockable stuff. Shuma can do the same thing with AD.H so she kinda helps all around but she needs more from teammates than either of them can give. If mystic stare went further as an assist I’d consider using it but it seems like a close range lockdown due to it’s hit stun so maybe get crossups off of it? 12 hits is beastly though on damage scaling. I have no idea what Smash assist would do for a team.
My problems with this team is there is no approach assist if spidey dies and my total lack of spidey skills. He plays so different in this. I’m thinking of replacing She Hulk with Task Master H.Arrows to give the team some keepaway and an approach assist. DHC’s should be even better. I just really like being able to randomly web throw people and get MS at anytime so Shuma’s staying. Also thinking of using Deadpool if otg outside corners is that important but it’s looking like approach assist will make more sense.
now that I think about it, Shuma’s mystic smash assist may also help Taskmaster’s unblockable setups due to the amount of time it keeps people in blockstun, no? (though black hole is probably better)
I can see how Taskmaster’s assists would really benefit shuma’s approach. Taskmaster is also good at taking people to the corner, where Shuma really seems to shine.
I actually use this exact team, I still need practice but I am loving the team up. Shoma can fly all over the screen and using the black hole assist to extend combos for bot task and shuma works really well. I cant see many flaws with this team and how I play, I just need to get shumas combos down, I have been playing with dormamu and task long enough I can do all of their combos with ease but shuma has so many possibilities.
Right now I’m testing out Shuma (mystic ray), Akuma (tatsu), Sent -> I’ve been enjoying it, but I’m considering replacing Sent with either Doom or Dormammu. I never played a Marvel franchise game before so every single character is brand new to me.
I think Dorm might fit into my play style better, but are there any big advantages of using Doom instead of Dorm as an anchor? Dorm seemed like a better anchor. I’m also open to rearranging the order to move Shuma off point, i’ve been struggling a little with that. I’ve been noticing he’s pretty strong as #2 with 3 hyper bars - so I can surprise people and get that level 3 hyper off a combo anywhere on the screen basically for huuge dmg.
My goals are thus: get min 3 meters with point (usually a combo + a team aerial combo), hit a combo with Shuma’s lvl 3 at the end, harass a bit with Sent (maybe land a hard drive into the corner) and then clean up.
My Shuma / X-23 / Doom isn’t working as well as I’d hoped… It could be that I am flat out not good with Doom and I am only mediocre with both 23 and Shuma, but it just seems like I am unsafe a lot of the time.
Since Mystic Ray can OTG and combo without even an assist, I am thinking of replacing 23 for someone with a GET OFF ME! assist. Who really has one of those that isn’t Tron or Haggar? I use both of them in other teams. Not that it’s terrible to re-use a character, but I’d like to try to avoid it. Also, Doom’s rocks work all right, but not as good as I would hope them to. Basically every hadoken or beam assist cuts through them. Any assist that anyone can think of that will better support Shuma for getting in?
Hmmm… I’m curious… I was actually thinking about including Hulk with Shuma, anyway, because Hyper Mystic Ray can cancel into Gamma Smash for RETARDED 2 meter damage.
I having a little bit of trouble of actually using the Mystic Ray assist for OTG purposes. Could anyone explain the timing?
Also, Hyper Mystic Ray is SO good for DHCs. After an OTG +:h: Air Legion Arrow from Taskmaster I can use it safe switch and get about 560,000 damage. And even from there I can do another DHC into Akuma’s beam because it lifts the opponent off the ground.
