Shut up! - The Sentinel Thread

Nothing wrong with it at all. I just find it funny how much smite the dude got and it turns out he is one of the most common pieces to peoples teams.

Ah, must have misinterpreted your post. My bad

This is my go to combo with Sentinel:
it works mid screen and will take you nearly to the corner, and only uses one meter. Does around 730k. Obviously in the corner, you could add a lot more to the combo. Perfect for DHCs. This will work off any setup into a launch, if you are unsure of the timing, or how much hit stun is left, try a second Jump B instead of a Jump C. It is possible to add a maybe one or two more Sj. Bs but the timing can be tricky based on how you started the combo and what character is in the combo. Let me know if you have any questions.

Notation:
S, sj.C xx Fly, A, C xx Unfly, sj. B Jump cancel UF, sj.C, sj. S, Land, Dash Toward, A Rocket Punch xx Plasma Storm/HSF

Of course people should pick a character for their strengths, but in a game like MVC3, which was hopefully balanced around tournament play, it shouldn’t be the only determining factor. The fun is in creating new teams that work well around each other and making them work.

Sentinel has the highest health, the highest damage, the easiest combo links, incredibly useful assists, the most mindless 100% combos, Hyper armor on launcher, super armor on his low attack into his launcher…the list goes on. There are literally no disadvantages to using Sentinel, and he meshes well with every team. He is a boon to every team, and should be placed in your third slot regardless of who else you pick. And that is bullshit. People shouldn’t be punished for playing creatively.

You could be the craftiest Hakan in the world, but choosing him alone means that you accept your “handicap”. Thats not to say you can’t win, it just means you have to work 100000x harder.

Oh, by the way… Marvel and balance don’t mix well

Seriously, I do enjoy the universal viability. I’m sure you’ll see more of it soon. As of right now it’s apparent that Sentinel is really good because of his ease of use. That being said, you will probably see more crafty/technical/“fun” teams as the strategies develop. Just give it a while.

All I have to say is I respect you Sentinel players… I wouldn’t want to be trying to block everything this game throws at me AND instant confirmable overheads too

LOL

Good fucking luck kiddos, and don’t sweat the tier lists, Sentinel isn’t broken at all.

I have mixed feelings on this I don’t know maybe it’s just me when I do launcher … sj… m, m , h or m, h canceling into flight mode it starts doing areal raid when that is not what I want ideas?

YOu might want to take a look at Dr Doom as well. I usually point with doom cuz he builds meter so fast. actually i only use sentinel because i needed a powerful aggressive assist and sent assist A is that. but u know, hey, doom builds meter quickly AND, he is a good character against guys trying to zone u out

I love using Sentinel, not just to win, its just that he fits perfectly into my team. Whenever i seem to win a ranked match, I usually get hate mail for using Sent or people just rage-quit.

Again, stop trying to fool yourself. He fits perfectly into ANY team. That’s why he’s broken.

1–Even if that weren’t were true (it’s not), that would not be broken. That would just mean he’s an all-around good character. Like Ryu in SF games.

2–Dante fits perfectly into ANY team. Great assist, amazing normals, can rushdown or play keep-away, builds bar easy, doesn’t mind spending bar, can’t be zoned out. Is Dante broken?

Sent’s keep-away isn’t that great. Can be beaten by a bunch of characters. At close range, his mixup game is nonexistant. If he hits you, it’s because you suck at blocking. I’m honestly starting to doubt Sent is even top tier. Right now, it seems like he has tons of health and damage, but nothing else. And he eats free instant overheads from the entire cast, lol.

I agree with this. I don’t think he’s even that great. He does a fuckton of damage and has some basic tools, but they’re just that: basic. If you don’t just throw out random shit that gets beat by hyper armor or don’t effectively rush him down then he’ll look good. Right now Sent strikes me as Vanilla SF4 Zangief.

More like Vanilla Sagat. Same zoning factor, same high damage, same instant comeback ability with lvl 3 x-factor comparable to ultras, and same hate/disgust/whining from scrubby players who can’t adapt.

Wait until people start mixing up with dat Kara-throw…

x-factor makes ANY char godlike, don’t know why only sent gets this “broken with level 3 x-factor” title. I’m starting to see that his mix-ups are pretty weak, his wavedash command throw is scary, but every other move he has is so blatantly telegraphed its almost painful, instant overheads are a huge problem as well.

Because he kills in 3 hits… maybe 4 with X factor? And he gets to make 4 or 5 mistakes, and the opponent gets one. One wrong guess.

Well yeah, he’s defs broken with x-factor, but I’m saying everyone else is as well, especially against sent, those instant overheads are downright terrifying and pretty much the entire cast can do them to him, and theres almost no difference from killing an enemy with a 4 hit combo and killing with an 8 hit. I just never see people saying “level 3 x-factor MODOK is broken”, but the point that x-factor sent is broken pops up everywhere.

It’s the durability combined with the damage combined with the complete lack of “flashiness” that comes from sent.

You see a chun li or dante or iron man BnB, and a lot of people think “that was a cool combo to do under pressure”. You see a sentinel kill you in four hits and you think “that’s just BS, why am I even practicing combos”

You get a proper hit on Xfactor iron man or dark pheonix or some normal health character, and you do some very noticable damage, and if you have enough meter you can often just outright kill them. You get a proper hit on Xfactor sentinel and the health doesn’t even move that much.

You also hear more grief about sentinel because he’s popular, especially on the teams of the people who really want to win.

does anyone here use his rocket punch assist?
at first i was using the air raid assist a lot until i realized that the move itself has a pretty small radius for opponents to get hit
the charge assist is much better for obvious reasons

but rocket punch? i’ve never even used that
to me it seems like a risk if you don’t go with the charge assist

It’s a fine OTG for characters like Tron Bonne who can have an opponent in the corner after one hit. But for actual pressure, I don’t think so.
