i think anyone dedicated enough to make a good game with mugen would probably have made a game whether mugen existed or not which makes its existence pretty meaningless to me
well there are definitely enough ridiculously imbalanced mechanics in the mugen system that can show would-be fighting game programmers what NOT to do ( see: Cheap Boss Type, Omega Tom Hanks ), but some characters like Dragonclaw that were designed experimentally in terms of mechanics could potentially branch out into their own outside of the Mugen system ( being just that well done and polished, of course ), so in that sense I think Mugen exists as a playground for people who want to design, code, animate, whatever. you can make something ridiculously broken or something that is decently balanced, its up to you. so i don’t think its existence is meaningless, but at the same time it can have really horrid results, so it all lies in the hands of the coder
Fuck online. If this isn’t the one with 4 vs 4, then to hell with it.
InfCat is the one with 4 v 4, and it has online, too.
Hey felineki, I’m asking this because you use Infinity Cat…
…why I can’t see the Options screen ?
I don’t think the options screen has been implemented yet. When it does, it’s going to be more customizable than the standard Mugen one, though. (The original Mugen let you customize title screens, VS screens, character select menus, etc. but the option and continue screens were pretty much always the same… InfCat will fix this.)
Thanks for the answer.
It seems like I will have to configure my joystick using the mugen.cfg file.
I’ve read posts from other people saying that remapping through mugen.cfg might not work yet, either. You’re pretty much stuck with the default settings for now.
Anyway, next InfCat release is due in August, according to the site. A new beta was supposed to come out sometime within the last month, but that’s been skipped.
I like Mugen as much as the next person but I do admit that it needs a revamp. I get tired of watching vids that shows a roster of 400+ characters and yet the person doesn’t make an original one. You would think that as hard as it is to find things for the program that person would put at least that much effort into doing something creative.
Then again I could be wrong. Some of you sound like you’ve made some good contributions. In which case I’d happily eat my own words.
I just wish SRK could band together and make something we could all agree on. Make something new so that the hardcore people could get interested. I know I would help (and not just play test) if we do it. Hell, if games like Melty Blood and Monster look and play so well then an entire SITE dedicated to a game genre could do something.
And fuck all this “It’s the internet. Nothing gets done on the internet” crap. Sounds like an excuse to watch loli and eat Cheetos all day.
Speaking of which, I remember about 2-3 years ago some SRK peeps were making a fighting game. They were just starting but they had made 2 characters done with full sprites (I clearly remember the stereotyipcal schoolboy with suitcase) and the progress was going relatively well. The thread was usually updated daily. But then I had lost track of the thread… If anyone knows about it, could you link it up?
Which…really has absolutely nothing to do with the capabilities of the engine.
Sorry about that. I meant more about the fanboys though. The kids who post comments on YouTube asking for characters and posting their vids with the 400+ rosters just to have a collection.
subscribes… might get interesting.
That game fell apart. I think the guy running it had a hard drive crash and lost the whole thing.
That was this thread: <http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=108123>
It really depends on whether the creators have the programming skills & time to code the engine, so, yeah, if they’re capable of doing that, they probably wont need M.U.G.E.N. to begin with. And that fighting game proj. mentioned in the thread link I posted up earlier was something that was gonna be built from the ground up, since there were also programmers (posting) in that thread that wanted to see if they could do such a thing. And a couple of posters from SRK have even made their own game engines already, like the one found in this thread <-- another game “built from scratch.”
lol @ fixing my grammar
Theres a difference between “grammar” and you just completely not using the right word. So, instead of wasting more time with you, I’ma go get in my banana, and drive to the fart, so I can pick up a roll of speaker.
i wasnt talking to you
also “rip” refers to taking something from another source, not just “spriterip”, so i didnt use the wrong word fyi
lol I didn’t expect the thread to derail in THAT direction. As far as the merit of Mugen, look no further than the truely unique characters ie the Evil Shotos (and you know the ones I’m talkin about) and the psuedo 3D characters that are just plain cool. There’s alot of good that can come of somethin like this but the problem is the community. It’s so scattered and nobody is supporting each other. Probably why it’s a fantastic reason why an SRK for example, exists.
I personally will get behind whatever engine turns out to be the most reliable and has the most support. I mean come on, an anybody vs. anybody fighting game online? Yeah…about that…count me the fuck in.
uum… what is the changes folder for?
Me and a few other people from that discussion are working on Skullgirls, and probally a few other projects too.
