By “popularity”, I’m talking about the mainstream exposure of the show.
Cowboy Bebop has managed to retain a spot in North American television for the past decade, whereas The Slayers had 3 low-profile and short-lived broadcasts in the U.S. within the past 10 years. The amount of people who know about Cowboy Bebop is bigger than the amount of people who are aware of the Slayers’ existence, trust me on this.
The popularity of the show contributes to development of a licensed game. In the 90’s, it was popular in Japan and relatively popular here, but now it’s a niche franchise within a niche market. The fact that the anime hasn’t gotten a sequel in over 3 years while the manga continues, is all the evidence you need to deduce that the Slayers is fanboy material now.
But I would still like to see an action-RPG game of it, though. But, after I thoroughly analyzed the concept of an FG for the Slayers, I came to the conclusion that it can work out.
Post Time-skip Robin would be the most broken grapple character ever, since she can grab you from anywhere on the screen without even having to touch you.
Just tapping a button with her would be a Zangief U2. All day. lol

I always thought a Penny Arcade fighter would be cool. Gabe and Tycho as the Ryu and Ken, newbie friendly characters… add Charles (with Chuck alt), Frank the EB Games Manager (who would most likely be top tier), Annarchy, Kiko, Cheeto, Div, Kara, even unlockable Cardboard Tube Samurai (who would also be top tier).
Jesus would be cool too, but I can see that stirring up some controversy.
