So, has anyone played Mother 3 using just the walkthrough? I’ve been waiting for the fan translation to drop since it started, but I’m really wanting to go through this game.
I actually played and beat the first Mother. The only thing I can really say about is that it feels so much like a Mother 2 prototype. Everything from Mother feels like a step down compared to Mother 2, but it did have its own charm. Still, I wouldn’t play it unless you were truly crazy about the series.
Giygas is the best final boss fight ever. Awesome music (at the beginning anyway), then everything just gets completely fucked up and twisted and he starts hitting me with shit I can’t grasp. The fact he was inspired by a traumatic childhood experience the producer had just makes him more awesome. Thats how final bosses should be - truly terrifying.
I also love Earthbounds ending for one single reason - that you can go everywhere in the game again and talk to everyone. I REALLY wish more RPGs did this, but no, I guess that’d be too much work.
I do enjoy the Earthbound music quite a bit, especially all the remixes they have in Melee/Brawl. Snowman is one of the best tracks in the entire series and they actually remixed it in Brawl. Fuck yes.
On the day (night) I beat EarthBound, it felt like I accomplished something more than just beating a videogame! Seriously, I kinda felt like I really did save the world after defeating Giygas, which brings me to the reason why I must agree with GC?!'s post. Being able to free-roam the world of the game before going on to the ending was a very nice (and unheard of) touch, even though you couldn’t save!
Have you ever taken the bike through the Deep Darkness for some swamp-bogging? It’s funny as hell, because the bell on your bike gets muffled by all the water!
One thing I learned about getting a quick buck for my games is that you REALLY regret it later.
Some games never even touch the hands of others, though.
I’ve actually only beaten the game once or twice. Every other time, I get to the very end, where it’s time for me to get my damn Gutsy Bat, and then I stop because I can’t get that shit.
Come to think of it, I never got the damn Star Band either. FUCK! :bluu:
I was lucky and got the Gutsy Bat on the third attempt. I should note that I’ve beaten this game a good 5 times or so, and only ONE time did I ever go for a 1/128 item run-through. I got to level 99 WAY before getting Poo’s only weapon (must’ve killed over 200 Starmen).
:u: I got to 97 or 98 when I got the Sword of Kings and then avoided fights until after Magicant (because Ness gains much higher stat boosts for the first few levels after he beats his Mani Mani Statue).
which 1 is the gutsy bat again? is that the one where you have to follow nessy? Or is that the legendary bat? I know thats the one I never got either

The Gutsy Bat is a 1/128 drop off Bionic Kraken. It raises Ness’s Guts by 128.
The Star Band is one of the best armors in the game, and it’s a 1/128 off something in the volcano.
ohhh, yeah I think thats what I was talking about…I never got the Gutsy Bat either…though I guess I had a completely different idea of how to get it…if I remember the guide that comes with the game showed screens of you getting it off normal Krackens… in the sea of eden…

This game was so awesome and unique. Had this funky vibe. I spent them sot time of childhood playing either this game or chrono.
