Visible Stun Bar:
Can easily decide when to pressure or when to defend, similar to a player having Super ready.

Easier for new players to tell when someone is about to be stunned.

Can cause the HUD to be cluttered and complicated… if the designers are morons.
No Stun Bar:
Have to know through experience when a character will be stunned or not, which newer or casual players may not understand.

The screen has so much more room to breathe and relax! Man, I am so good at the game without a stun bar crammed into my eyes!
Same. I voted yes thinking it was a guard bar. I don’t think a stun bar is necessary. A guard bar is since SF4 is so defense oriented though. Or make the stages narrower. Or both :wgrin:
not neccesarily, just have individual gaurd bar values for every single move. fuerte’s fierce would only do 1 point of damage, whereas a say ryus fierce would do 5. sagats tiger knee would do -1 so he breaks his own gaurd when he spams that shit.
I play Sakura, a character based around stunning your opponent through momentum based reset mixups.
And even though a stun bar might help the opponent to know when to be extra careful, I think it would help me out even more letting me know when to stop resetting and finish with a special. I waste a lot of EX bars doing an EX.Shunpu and then having the enemy dizzy on the first hit.
And I still think stun bars are stupid.
Keep SOME mystery in the game. you have stun counters in training. That should be more than enough.
Voted no, I find myself guessing when a stun will occur (hopefully on my opponent :D), tho I don’t see the downside of having them in the next revision either.
For me, this is really the only point worth discussing. All I can see is this maybe changing the way the game is played. I don’t see it as being good or bad, just different.
On the other hand, knowing that player is nearing stun may invite more pressure from the attacker. That makes it a positive gameplay change IMO.
Therefore, I am in favour of a stun indicator. Especially one that flashes when you’re close to stun. It would have a psychological effect on the players and in turn a relatively positive effect on the way they play. Case in point: Players are more cautious around opponents who have a stored Ultra. Combined with the nature of Ultras (eg. invincibility + ability to glide through projectiles), the Ultra indicator lends itself to turtley matches. A stun indicator might provide the opposite effect.
Seriously, it doesn’t need to be an actual bar people, something like SCIV’s guard crush* circle would be fine. “Oh look, I’m in the red, I didn’t know Sakura did that much stun damage, better play it safe for a bit”. It doesn’t need to be overly granular or clutter up the interface. Anything which prevents people from needing to spend time in training and in forums, and makes it easier to get better and understand the game better simply by playing the game with other good players is a good thing.
*Not that I advocate some kind of guard crush system, I think that’s a bad idea, I’m talking about the visual representation.
mates, it is just a small bar, it doesnt clutter anything. The only thing is it can be confusing for VERY new players that are not used to this.
i seriously think it would improve the gameplay. You cant say it would promote turtling because in fact it can promote the opposite also (if you watch your opponent bar getting close to stun, you will probably be more agressive).
and about those ones who said they dont need it because they know when they are going to stun/get stunned… camon, thats impossible, you can not know it PRECISELY.
im quite sure some of you have missed stun oportunities because you didnt know you were very close to stun your opponent; and you have been stunned because you didnt know you were close to be stunned and didnt take care about it.
Too much bars. Hell, sometimes, I forget to check my ex bars because of the heat of the battle. Also why would you need a bar. You hit an opponent and keep on hitting him. Dont let him be hit-free for more than 3 secs. And strong characters like zangief need to be hit more to be stunned.
No coz then you’ll know how much damage u need to inflict for the apponnant to get stunned… this will make scrubs/noobs button bash hoping to get their apponant stunned… hmmmm actually I say Yes
if another bar is gonna get added to the game, i most certainly would not want stun bar. id rather have a guard crush bar.
a stun bar is not needed. Anyone that plays the game even just a little bit, has a pretty damn good idea when they are about to get dizzy. adding the dizzy bar will drastically change the gameplay of a lot of players too. without a meter, the player could think"should i stay aggressive or do a reset and make a big risk for a dizzy that i dont know will dizzy? or just keep safe control of the match?" Whereas, you have stun meter, you will always know when the opponent is almost dizzy, and you can make easy decisions every single time.
Theres no mystery and risks are much much lower with a stunbar. i use sakura, and there’s lots of times where i was sure that if i just ended my ex hk combo with a 3 hit otoshi, it would dizzy, and it turned out, it didnt come close. now i lost positional advantage. same thing vice versa. i do a combo, and they are almost dizzy but im not aware of it. instead of juggling with otoshi, i decide to reset again and the block/reversal appropriately, now i lost the dizzy and gave the opponent control of the round.
i find that way more interesting when it comes to decision making. I won’t be mad if they add a stun bar. it doesnt really bother me. but id rather them add a guard bar/system instead =)
