Should Street Fighter IV be used as a template for future fighters?

You’re right, but you’re missing the point still. Or ignoring it. The fact that they were 3D isn’t what made them more popular. Street Fighter EX did terribly. Bloody Roar didn’t last either. Sure they had to be 3d to compete, but there were plenty of 3d fighters that couldn’t stand the test of time like Tekken and Mortal Kombat. It’s because a good game is a good game. No matter what the genre, if the game is fun to play, it catches on and people play it even if they aren’t enthusiasts of that genre.

Oh, so now SF4 sucks because Ryu doesn’t shoot fireballs out his ass this time or something?

Genius. You are too much.

i have glasses asshole and i can easily see that you like shit.

anyway, its quite easy to see that it took these guys a hundred years to make a very below standard game even though they already knew what the fans wanted. and even if they said the game is for the casual player they at least knew what the hardcore fans didn’t want.

call me old school all you want i just may not be like a lot of you when im confronted with a low quality game. when i buy a game thats not good, i don’t try to will myself into thinking its not regardless of its faults. maybe i could do that with a new series or a game like melty blood. but mufuckin street fighter??? theres no excuse you can give for a game of this quality from such a great company.

i got an easy question for all of you. if you could have only one street fighter for the next ten years how many of you would chose a street fighter ex? now how many of you would chose street fighter 4?..EXACTLY! i heard nuthin but crickets chirpin through the sounds of silence on that one. any game we wouldn’t have in a tournament environment for the next ten years isn’t a very good game.

if anything guys like a lot of the apologist gamers here just happy that capcom even threw them some below standard scraps are just making sure the next 7 street fighters will be junk like this one so no, im not gonna try to make gold outta shit like some people seem to have the ability to do. call me old school all you want. but what i really want is a REAL street fighter 4. graphics are just one of the many problems with the game.

and yes, the fans are why capcom exists today. they may want to listen more than they have been in the future. im not sayin that these guys didn’t work hard and really try at the game, cause im sure they did. but when they make a bad game its up to us fans to say something about it and not be all “we are lowly fighter fans who grovle at your feet and gladly accept any ol shit you kick out” to make sure the quality of the gameplay comes out unscathed like hd remix did.

to the guy who said old schoolers think capcom owes them something. after how much money street fighter fans have just thrown at capcom over the years even for slight upgrades and home conversions again and again and again without fail, fuck yes capcom owes me somthin. they owe you, i and everyone else a much better quality game for the money they get from us from now till the end of time.

if you like sf4 then then im happy for you, im not gonna be a whinny chump fuck and neg rep anyone for havin an opinion though.

just one mans opinion…

That still doesn’t change the fact that SF3 didn’t have a timly console release, fleeting arcade community and industry shift from 2D to 3D. The fact is that SF3 was released at a very bad time…above anything else look at the era of its release, that is a fact that cant be ignored.

He’s comparing it to KOF where even though they may use the same sprites (except KOFXII) characters gain new stuff in every sequel (or prequel/dream match).

So if you compare it to that…yes it just seems odd that characters dont gain anything new in the latest version and feel exactly how they were in their last 4-5 incarnations…

It’d be like Iori is in KOF…nothing really changes with him…and that can grow stale…hell I’ve dropped Iori because of this reason…
Nothing changes with him…now I may pick him up in KOFXII because he has a different style…

Back to the original OP question, I think it’s inevitable that Capcom will use this game engine to create other fighting games. Maybe a new Darkstalkers or Vs. game in the future.

Somebody said sf4 should have an EX in it somewhere before the 4. Could not agree more.

I have to admit I like the graphics

It doesn’t play anything like the EX series.

You’re just saying that because they share 3D models.

Yes,

there you go, short and to the point.

Sigh If only other industries were so quick to dump obsolete and ineffective technologies… We’d all be driving electric cars and all our power generation would be nuclear.

long live 2D sprites. i’m glad arc systems and SNK are at least bringing 2D to the HD front rather going for some weird ass 2.5d crap.

They really don’t. This is the company that’s made:

Devil May Cry
Phoenix Wright
Every Megaman series
RESIDENT EVIL

There are more that I can’t think of atm but all of them are enormously popular. It’s not like SNK, where their main focus is fighting games. If there’s anything these 10 years have taught us is that they don’t need street fighter to survive. Hell, they don’t need any fighters. For proof, we’ll see how many updates this one gets. It’ll prolly get 1 if any. The point is they didn’t listen to you vets, and guess what? It worked.

All you really had to say was you didn’t like the game. You trying to reason why it’s a terrible/low quality game is painful to read.

it reminds me of a special i saw about Pixar. a few years ago, movies started moving away from hand-drawn animated features and disney shut down their cartoon studio due to the success of 3D movies

as it turns out, pixar’s staff was mortified by people dismissing 2D over 3D just because of their work because THEY LOVE 2D ANIMATION.

What in the shit is that supposed to mean?

maybe he means to say that after 30+ tries that capcom should maybe try a bit harder and update the # of tools that each character has in each matchup. I see the ex moves and i recognize that focus attacks also add to the depth, i simply dont think thats enough for a NEW sf game. I have my own gripes with it’s simplicity, the ultra meter as well as the lack of new strategies available for the old characters…

if snk can manage to tweak their system and modify the characters to keep them fresh…plz tell me that capcom can as well…

:[

Actually any last gen 3D game>SFIV graphically…and HD quality 2D art with fluid animation>>>>>>SFIV.

Well I agree with that completely, and it was my primary gripe back in 2007 when we got wind of SF4 anyway.

:stuck_out_tongue:

well then, god damn my man you are on point

:nunchuck:

myself, i havent played the game until recently, so i kept quiet until I gave it a chance.

I wish i never did…

I guess I’m just along for the ride then.

:stuck_out_tongue:

This thread if confusing.

First alot of people keep saying SFIV= 2.5d KOFXII Blazeblu=2d. As far as gameplay goes, all three games are 2d from what i’ve seen. When it comes to graphics all three games started out as 3d and SFIV stopped there while the other two games just the those graphics as templates for each hand drawn frame or something along those lines. There is nothing that is 2.5d in SFIV. That term IIRC was used to describe tekken/virtua fighter gameplay and how for the most part it uses two dimensions while the third one has very minimal use.

Second people that say capcom will never produce another fighter with 2d graphics, a statement like that just a best guess based on information that you know. Why are some so certain about things we do not control? I could very well be true or maybe a few years from now some random producer might want to make 2d fighter like the ones used to play and that some other company’s might still be making.

The last few things that I noticed people complained about and was they’re reason for saying SFIV shouldn’t be used as a template were only gameplay related like wierd hitboxes and overall speed of the game. I thought the main reason for saying yes or no to the threads question would have to do with graphics and the pros and cons to 2d and 3d graphics.

I personaly havn’t made up my mind yet, on the one hand with 3d production cost are lower, animation is smoother, we get other goods like alternate costumes and we wont see anymore recycled sprites. But with 2d everything is richer, every frame looks they way the artist intended it to look, it has a unique style that is hard to pull off with 3d models and this is really important becuase all street fighter characters and Darkstalker characters still look better hand drawn. SFIV comes close but certain models just fail.
