Should SF5 have an option to turn off negative edge?

Great players fuck up all the time. How many times has daigo dropped E.Ryu combos? He’ll sometimes they’d even input wrong supers in marvel. Fuck ups happen all the damn time.

Either way there are better solutions to fix the problems you have that dont involve giving players the option to get rid of it. SRK on some dumb shit lately.

Edit: Stop hitting the WTF button. It isn’t there because you’re too dumb to look at the bigger picture, its there to bury posts. @d3v, seriously though, what’s the point of these threads?

I’ve never heard strong players from any other SF suggest that negative edge needed to be optional. It’s like a non issue.

I suspect this may be SF4-specific, like maybe you get something you don’t want because links are so tight and the windows for specials are more generous.

Seems to me that a better option than making negative edge optional is to make an input system that doesn’t require tight links or that makes specials harder to perform or both of those.

I can’t believe this is a real thread. I’ve never heard of any competent player blaming negative edge for anything.

I don’t even want this as an option because I think it’s going to make the game unnecessarily harder for many players because they think removing it is beneficial. It also didn’t fix sloppy inputting. If you’re having an issue with NE you might just need more training mode.

Let the world’s best Dan player show you the bigger picture.

From Ixion:

"*Added option in Button Config-menu; NEGATIVE EDGE: ON/OFF
MOTIVATION: I feel absolutely no need to trigger my specials, supers, or ultras by means of -releasing- the triggering button(s) rather than pressing it/them. Negative edge causes so much more trouble for me than it’s actually helping, and I’m not alone in thinking this.

Sakura got the use of negative edge on her Otoshi Hop removed in an earlier iteration, the reason being players accidentally got that one out instead of Shouken. This makes me furious; like that one move would be the only special that occasionally comes out by accident because of negative edge?

It’s not, there are countless other situations where negative edge messes up intended combos and setups, and therefore I would like to have the option to turn this mechanism OFF. This choice should exist in the same menu as button mapping so it can be turned off in button checks for those who would like to.*"

As you can see from the comments many people agree. Other than that one also says to the other “You don’t agree with giving the player the OPTION to turn off the negative edge input. What are you a fascist?”. Another one says, in contrast, “to turn negative edge on/off. I like it and use it so I would leave it on, but if others want the option to turn it off, then I don’t see a problem with that.”

After the world’s best Dan player explaining the problem, and telling “he is not alone thinking this”, meaning other tournament players also want this option, world’s best Vega already suffering from this, and many more others, if you are still blaming people for their execution, I don’t know what to say.

Also I haven’t chosen my right to strike your person back for this long as I’m a civil person. But enough is enough. This will be my one and only reply in the level you can understand. I’ve never seen anyone so insistent on not understanding something after it has been explained to him from various points. I’m guessing you will also find Ixion and all the other great players who feel like him dumb, as you are the only smart person for you. Your rotten attitude all over the forums started to leave a sour taste. Mind your language.

It’s not about having one character poorly coded, his code is just fine, this is a design matter. It also does not have to pollute the character select screen, button config will do just fine, there in the bottom. It could even have an “advanced” tab just to stop people from fucking things up, but i know that this is not what bothers you, but honestly i dont know what it is either.

So just because i’m new to the SRK forums does this mean my arguments are therefore flawed? Please avoid attacking my person.

I wrote a response but then realized I am trolling myself by continuing to be a part of this dumb conversation

That’s it. I’m putting a stop to all these poll threads.

The no poll rule from FGD will now be applied here as well.
