Is there really a big difference between wired and wireless connection when playing online on PS3? Because I play MVC3 and I find the games really laggy, which is kinda sad. I don’t like how the game is forcing you to get used to the laggy online, and makes learn to play with it. Does anyone experience this sort of lag?
Sometimes its really bad, and sometimes its playable.
I heard that wired connection is better, is that true? Because my wireless thing already says 100%. Will it be better if I use a wired connection?
Theres no tournaments near my boring area which is “mississauga” so I have rely on online play to play other people.
It won’t hurt to try it. My router is right above my PS3 so I didn’t notice any difference, but your situation may vary. It should theoretically be more stable as there is no external interference with a wired connection. Your wireless could be affected by other people’s routers nearby, which usually isn’t a concern unless you live in an apartment or something (University area apartments for me so everyone is sending out mad wireless).
Thanks guys, that makes sense. I will get a wired connection. My router was in the other room, and I live in an apartment, so thats bad enough anyways, I geuss.
I suggest you buy an Ethernet ShinkuGadoken. The only router I’ll make an exception to be wireless will be a D-Link. I had a D-Link for 3 years before a lighting storm fried it. It cover all my rooms; upstairs and downstairs. We always had 80-100% signal.
I have now a Linksys and my stuff are like right next to each other. I don’t even get 100% signal.
Just a question, a very important one. If I have wired, but the guy who I’m fighting on MVSC3 online has wireless, will that still produce lag, or does it connect by host, like who has the best connection. Like in Call of Duty.
It’s going to create lag no matter what. But, it won’t be too much of a lag. I hardly have lags against friends in MvC3. Just lag input delayed. However, I suggest that everyone plays wired vs wireless.
Also, I have a problem with connecting with my friends online in MVSC3. My friend sent me an invitation on PSN to battle him online, but when I accepted it, it said “failed to join session.” I’m baffled! I can’t even start a simple game online. I know that no game developer is perfect, but wow, I can’t even start an online match with a friend. Thats kind of sad. Is this due to my wireless connection?
Also, about lag input. If my friend and I get both wired, will the lag input decrease to the point where there isn’t any more lag?
I have the same issue with my friend. We couldn’t connect at all. We’re both are wired. This is CAPCOM’s side. I don’t know if they’re planning to fix that issue.
As for lag input. Sometime is hasn’t have to do with being wired or wireless. All my connection are wired except laptops. However, I have lag input because of the netcode itself. Not because of me or my opponent.
Side note: I will be giving out infractions for any negative and useless post that isn’t helping the OP’s thread.
OP: NO tournaments near Sauga is BS. look up the Sauga threads. The GTA is most likely the most active area in Canada for SF. Hell Anime North in Toronto was just this weekend and a bunch of Sauga players went.
On the note of Wireless though, I’m with Gorath. Stick to wired. Pierce a hole through your wall if you have to.
Edit; OP, get at me by PM if you wanna know the info for the GTA irc channel. It’s your best bet to find local comp.
I was going to open this with ‘this thread is full of fail’ but I realised that might come across as pretty harsh, when it wasn’t intended that way. It would be fairer to say that this thread hasn’t given the whole picture so far.
Wireless will introduce marginally more lag than Wired, but so long as someone else isn’t on the same set of frequencies as you, you shouldn’t really notice the lag, unless you have particularly poor wireless equiptment. Do remember that Wireless has only three channels that don’t over-lap (1, 6, 11 in the States - EU has up to 13 (this is true on the B/G range - A and N ranges have more and don’t overlap as much)), so you need to make sure you aren’t in conflict with another network. This is getting much harder now we live in a wireless society.
Wired is a far better way of going - I’ve put my XBox on wired by using Powerline Ethernet - it uses the Ringmain in your house/flat to create a cabled connection. You need two of these devices (one by your router, one by your PS3) and all will work wonderfully well - I’m using mine to play SSF4 and it introduces no noticible lag, as it’s running at 100Meg to the router.
Obviously, if you can run cables direct to the router, that’s even less to go wrong.
None of this is guarenteed to remove lag however - if you’re connected via ADSL or Cable, and the guy next door is on the same DSLAM or Exchange as you and is downloading Torrents like there’s no tomorrow, you are going to feel the effects. That’s also not taking in to account geographical distance - if you’re trying to play against your mate in Australia and you’re in the UK, you are going to see lag, full stop. That said, the net is getting better all the time - just look at Excellent Adventures - they managed to get an East Coast -> West Coast connection when Gooteks played Hu (I believe).
That should at least help you in your quest to improve your PS3 gaming, but ultimately remember - the PS3 US network has not yet had the appropriate investment, when compared to the Japan PS3 network.
PS3 for some reason doesn’t take lightly to the genre online. Even with a wired connection to my PS3 the lag is really bad. XBL is what you should go with.
