Im just saying its another sign of dumbing down americans in general. Theres those stories of kids not beating the first level of SMB, I hope to god thats fake, but if its true my god where the hell is our society heading?
8 frames is good enough for me and Im a beginner, its infuriating my friend couldnt keep up with me in ST. Really messed up my day and his since he couldnt play the games he wanted to play with me, but he made awesome pizza at least. Hes a cool guy, but TVC is really different from ST and so theres gonna be bumps on the road, but it shouldnt have been so bad.
Theres people like Viscant, Ultra David and BrolyTraps who have disabilities but they can still play extremely well at the games they like.
You know theres an option in Alpha 3 Max where you can set the difficulty and timing for special moves to easy or arcade hard, so maybe more games should have that as an option and not make it so everyone has to abuse shortcuts and make them selves get better.
Actually I believe that some time back, some folks actually did come up with a formula to calculate how large a window a move should have. Basically, the formula broke down into 4 frames per direction (with an additional 4 frames for traversing between 2 non-adjacent directions) plus 2 frames to hit the attack button.
Viscant punched a lot of bricks when he was younger in Muay Thai training he said, so nerves in his hands are wonky. He still won Evo though and thats a huge accomplishment for him and shows people can still perform well if they have great strategy. Theres no way Viscant could seriously play 3rd Strike and I bet that warped his feelings for the game. He HAS TO be able to strategize to be a threat, and 3rd Strike is all psychology and in the moment reactions to situations. Ultra David also came to the conclusion that 3rd Strike doesnt reward overall strategy. I know thats the way the game is, but I still think its an amazing game, but I dont play it anymore after an incident.
Ultra David has a sports related injury too, theres a bone that is pressing in his neck and the nerves its connected to go to his hands, so he says its like playing with constant lag no matter what. Thats why he cant seriously play in tournaments because his hands wont do things he wants them to do when he needs them to. I honestly think if David didnt have that injury he would be giving Snake Eyez a run for his money as best Gief.
somewhere, someone who is a generation older than us is moaning about how kids these days can’t beat x benchmark in pinball, or play a vinyl record, or some other shit that no one cares about learning anymore. There is no virtue in games being difficult for traditions sake.
Its not tradition so much as if I want to play an older game with my friends since its what I practice and they cant even do srk’s or fireballs its very upsetting. There are still vinyl records that are still played by hipsters and DJ’s. Pinball is well, eh, theres a arcade near me called Pinballz, TONS of those machine are here. You cant compare pinball games to video games though I think.
Fighting games can only become so accessible; it’s ultimately up to the player to decide if they want to commit more time or not. That pretty much requires the 8 letter word that nobody likes hearing: training.
Capcom’s responsibility is to make good products that are worth investing time in.
that is mostly an arcade culture thing. you knew you had one coin and it would be impossible to finish most of the games there, unless you fed the machines with coins either in the short or in the long run. Only shmups and beat-em-ups could be finished in the short run . If you were lucky you’d be able to see a better player finish the game. So losing there would not equal the end of the world. you knew your limits.
But consoles introduced saving and pausing and having all the time in the world.
you get the false impression that you improve as a player because you are able to finish the game that way. But fighters were never meant to be played with the pause button. Other genres like simulation, strategy, adventure, rpg etc need those features since they are much longer. but reflex and real time games like fighters hardly benefit players that way. Console would be useful only for free training. Still this doesnt negate the issue about the pause button.
a gamer who missed the arcade culture and played arcade games only through consoles would find it difficult to accept the correct way to improve in fighters.
"SHOULD CAPCOM SHOULDER MORE RESPONSIBILITY FOR GETTING PEOPLE INTO FGS"
Shouldn’t every company that wants to sell FGs?
That said, I do know one thing, Capcom is masterfully succeedin’ in gettin’ more people out/never tryin’em in the 1st place. Street Fighter is pretty much a joke/ casual deterrent. Not even because of the games, but how Capcom handles releases.
I swear to God, I gotta upload a video next time I try to explain to my peers why there needs to be 3 SFIVs in just 4 years and some change. I thought to myself, “This is the damn problem”. Knowin’ what I know, I would love to see Capcom try and release a SFV. They better hope Shoryuken and Eventhubs buys that ma’fucker 5 times. And people wanna talk about how FG competitions will someday reach Starcraft lvls. Not if people don’t start holdin’ companies accountable. lol
If I made somethin’ that 2M people bought and constantly shelled out needless upgrades for the next 4 or 5 years after that, I better have the remainin’ 50,000 people show up each year. Hell what are we on now, the 4th SFIV?
That’s leik, over 200$. If you spent console money on a single game, you better go to Evo. Try to get some of yur damn money back.
Honestly, I’m starting to think Capcom does make their games with faults after seeing how SF2 came out. I think the worst game is UMvC3, that game has so many faults, it’s not even funny (I still enjoy it, but that’s neither here nor there).
So, I’m guessing you didn’t like the 4 revisions of SF2 in the span of 2 years then. Plus, Capcom would never release SFV right now or anytime soon cause they know it ain’t going to do shit for them. I’m sure they are not THAT stupid, but they did say it will release it in 2018 (that sound like a good release date, should they stop supporting IV now).
Unfortunately I wasn’t old enough to participate in any of that SFII insanity, but I do have older brothers who owned every game and still went to the arcades to play it even tho they had it at home. They have since deeply regreted their decisions.
If you factor in the times and knowledge most people should have, I think the case we have with SFIV is significantly worst than what occured with SFII.
And the issue with waiting to release SFV until 2018, what do they do until then, not make money off of FGs? Variety along with spacing out releases is key.
