Shoryuken

Why do you feel its only bullshit when Seth is using it?

The fact that I only play online is not making anything invalid since I do so with good enough connection to not chicken out on any of dudleys more difficult links because of “lag”. Whenever I play my dudley I usually do so versus a few good opponents with good connections to exclude any “grief” due to lag, whenever I play/troll with my blanka I couldn’t care less if there was any lag or not. Point being when I play dudley I make sure lag is not a obstacle or visible factor in my gameplay.

I mean come on guys. I can see the guy has no experience with the genre so he can’t really give accurate reasoning behind his frustration, but getting pissed off of how DPs are handled in SF4 is legit. (Unless you only play SF4 and started taking it for granted, thinking every game is like this, which is ignorant.) In other games they don’t tend to annoy you as much because they are easier to punish and cannot be mashed out during your offense. When I play Guilty Gear or Melty Blood or whatever I don’t need to constantly stop my attack to bait a reversal, only at very specific times (not even after a knockdown, since the opponent usually gets up into projectile setups etc.) but in SF4 if you don’t give DP way more respect, you’ll get hit by it a lot.

You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance.

Man… when I lose to a Ryu using the winning quote is: You must defeat my shoryuken to stand a chance, I always die a little inside.

When somebody wins on a “gamling” shoryuken, “gamling” because it trumps everything except block unless you’re in chip range, I can’t help but to think about why it was made so good in the first place. This is also the reason why I only play best out of 5 matches, since two rounds is not enough to learn jack about your opponent, assuming he’s playing a shoto…

What? Short landing? They even nerfed ken’s lp dp that had little recovery. You can punish any dp with your best punish always, maybe not oni’s lp dp, but that has no invincibility. What else do you want? Should every dp be like balrog’s headbutt and have 600 frames of recovery?

And shitty s.roundhouse…yeah.

Why not? How will it harm the game?

How will it help the game, when current recovery already serves the same purpose?

Before that nerf headbutt was already the most punishable reversal in game (or second to gouken’s ex tatsu actually) and then they nerfed it and people couldn’t understand the “change”, because it was already perfectly punishable. The only change that really made sense was ken’s light dp, because that still had some st esque mixup potential.

If somehow you think that will make dps more punishable, go ahead, but imo you’d be picking a better fight complaining about fadc on reversals.

Very few people have mentioned the good parts of shoryuken whereas most people in this thread seems to only discuss its “massive recovery punishable with your best punish ALWAYS”. When so much focus is put into its one down side does it really outweigh/balance the pro’s as with its meter invincibility etc. properties?

He’s playing Dudley bud.

It’s not science because science is self-rectifying and fallible. It’s math - pure numbers and infallible. And math is not a science.

I play Dudley and I used to hate DP’s but now I love them. They are biggest opening for a free punish. Honestly if you think DP’s are overpowered because you play Dudley who doesn’t have an invincible move without meter, then your playing him wrong.

If he is mashing in the middle of pressure, then you need to be aware of it and choose to block every once in a while to see if he mashes it out then punish.
If he is doing DP on wake up, which I love, Dudley has a move for that too. Its one of his most underrated moves that is starting to gain respect. YOU USE LK SSB. When you do you either hit him out of the DP and get a free juggle, or move out of the way and recover in time to punish him. But you have to know how to space SSB otherwise you will eat that DP. People usually do wake up DP when they have 2 bars to cancel, when they are sure it will work, or when they panic usually.

Here I am feeling generous, to get max punish on a DP do:

f.mk, st.hk xx hp dp (meterless)
f.mk, st.hk xx ex mgb into whatever (at least one bar)
f.mk, st.hk xx lp dp, ultra 2 (have ultra 2 stocked)

If you are in the mode, go for this these:

f.mk, cr.mp, st.hk xx ex mgb into whatever
cr.hp, st.hk xx ex mgb into whatever

You will love DPs once you learn to bait them and use them to your advantage. SRK is a strong move but not unbeatable. If they are doing far away from you and you can’t punish just let it go. They just gained a little meter, but whoop. You need to learn to use DPs to your advantage. That or just stop playing the game

I know what that you want people to agree with you and complain about it with you, but really you don’t gain anything from it. I am trying to help you a bit and shed some light on how to beat this so called overpowered move.

Also I recommend you youtube Shintroy and watch his TUT. I can tell your Dudley is not that good, no offense.

Everything is relative. In P4A my character punishes a dragon punch with a pretty easy 50% meterless combo. This combo also does not have any links to screw up in, that leave you vulnerable to some more DP mashing in between. Again you think about the scenario in an ideal situation, and ignore people’s actual experiences with the game.

Because I just told you some landing windows are very small, making the act of hitting the opponent standing pretty hard.

I would actually go out of my way to say that Cannon Spike is better than Shoryuken.

Active frames for literally years, and even more invincibility, especially on the EX version. It’s just as easy to punish by a smart player though.

It has a good horizontal arc too.
