well everything about the Velvet room makes sense to me now. [details=Spoiler]I knew Igor wasn’t acting right. he was always mysterious but treating my life like a game, imprisoning me, using all those fucking execution devices, etc… goddam good twist. [/details]
looks like ive finally reached the last boss…i think. i wanted to take advantage of the free restore and save it after i beat them mini-bosses so i ran all the way back right before opening the big scary door and now i don’t feel like walking past all that crap again at the moment.
It feels like I’m at the final stretch. The game wants me to spend time with all my social links as part of my prep. I managed to max Makoto and Hifumi. Just need for one of my personas to learn high counter so I can max the twins. Yusuke is two levels away from max. I might have to give up even starting Haru because I doubt I will have the time.
Finished the game at 72 Hours. Apparently I was slacking compared to you guys or something. Could’ve finished it at around hour 69 but I needed to grind for the Final Boss. Not counting the required story links, I maxed out just five Social Links. There were many things I liked, some I didn’t, but overall loved the game. Spoilers incoming.

Story was absolutely fantastic, I honestly can say it was the best story I’ve played through in a JRPG ever. I hear some people swear by Persona 2 though. But everything felt organic. You feel motivated to complete everything for the sake of moving the story, rather than just progressing the game.
Your group of friends really do feel like a true group of friends that you care for. Yusuke is the only iffy one,
but not due to his character really but since he goes to a different school you never really get to spend too much time with him. Also Haru,
since you obtain her so damn late and it’s nearly impossible to get her Social Link anywhere before endgame hits since your Kindness needs to be maxed before even starting her. But otherwise, they’re just an absolutely lovable cast who you wish you could spend more time with even without diving into the Metaverse.
On the other coin, the villains are definitely vile and make you wanna kill them. I will say though that Okumura lacked a bit of the tension of the others. He never seemed as vile really, though I guess you could argue that it was so we as players could give him SOME sympathy for when that bastard Akechi two pieced him. But it’s very easy to hate all the villains and that’s a good thing.
Time Management is very involved without being too overwhelming, which is good for someone like me who usually is trash at time management. They do a great job of easing you into everyone, plus maxing Kawakami is a life saver.
Combat is definitely intuitive and allows for a variety of playstyles. Thank god for the Weakness Reminder since the elemental weakness is very involved otherwise.
The depiction of Tokyo is superb.
I loved how Igor’s Voice Change was actually a plot point. Clever Atlus, clever (of course me being a first time Persona player I hadn’t noticed, but everyone around me seemed annoyed by the change).
Maid costume :3
Game felt a little easy, ESPECIALLY for an Atlus game. A couple of boss fights downed me, but it was an easy adjustment for the next go around.
The only times I felt legitimately challenged was during Shido’s Palace because the King Frosts were pretty nasty and those Rat Labyrinths along with Safe Room starvation made it extremely stressful to progress through. Even the Final Boss, I only had to grind due to lacking SP restoration (I hadn’t initially grabbed the Chest with the Soma inside). This was on Normal Mode though, maybe Hard Mode is a lot better about it.
There are bountiful mechanics, but you never feel required to use them. I mean, I enjoy having your own runthrough, but there were parts of the game I completely missed and never got to use before beating it really. I completely missed the Sun Confidant, and I never used half the Velvet Room functions, among other things. I don’t think they really ran you through some of the more obscure functions well enough.
I think they introduced Haru way too late, especially with how she was brought in. She never really got the chance to blend in with the rest of the Phantom Thieves since by the time she came in, the wheels were falling off the whole thing.
Ending Fatigue, HOLY SHIT, ending fatigue. You’re already at an emotional climax at the fateful 11/20 and you still have another two months in-game to go. Even once you beat Akechi and Shido, if you did it early you have to wait for the usual change of heart, and then watch everything go to hell again. Then you have to go through Mementos (god forbid if you weren’t doing your due diligence with it prior, thankfully I was) and the Depths to reach the Holy Grail, only to then go through another long section of cutscenes after that fails, to get to yet another final dungeon (though a small one). Then you get to the final boss, beat him, and you have ANOTHER hour of cutscenes to go and goodbyes to go through. Not gonna lie, it felt like a massive reminder of Metal Gear Solid 2, only this time with a comprehensible story. Definitely felt like the game could’ve ended 5 times before it actually did.[/details]
But yeah, loved the game, already anxious for the eventual P5A. Atlus definitely needs to be toasting themselves with Persona, giving them great dominion over both JRPGs AND FGs.
About to start the 4th palace. All social stats are at least 3.
I was all set to target Ann as bae, then Makoto came along. Question - which women can you date? (Remember I’m only starting the 4th palace so no spoilers) Like can you actually date the maid? If not I’ma stop dropping money on her.
Nah, you can’t date the maid (but I think she’s useful skill-wise up to Level 5?), but you can (I think) date the Journalist, the Shugu Player, and the Doctor.
You can date the maid. Im dating her. It depends on which dialog you choose when that time comes. Even if you dont wanna date her, like Hawkingbird said, the benefit from maxing her out is useful as fuck
That actually sounds pretty good. I know so far that Journalist’s skills don’t seem really useful at all since you shouldn’t have to worry about security level increases (since you SHOULD be ambushing every enemy you fight), and that everyone’s like “Just get Sun to 3” because it lets you demand money like 2-5 times in a row instead of once in battles. Moon is pretty good because everyone likes extra EXP, Death is good to 7, and some of the skills you learn with Star help out a ton. Seriously, that party switch thing early on has already helped make some battles a lot easier after "One More"s.
Ohya’s is pretty much universally agreed the most useless one. Like you said it’s a skill that only benifits you if you’re doing bad in the first place. You should never be kicked out of a dungeon if you know how to play.
If you get 3 Charm points per time that might make it worth it from time to time. I still have to get my charm up to advance in Makoto’s link since all my skills are at 3 (except for Knowledge which is 4), and I just finished Dungeon 4.
That being said, since I haven’t started it yet (I didn’t start Sun until recently so I didn’t have the money before), what DOES Fortune Teller do?
Fortune teller’s function is when you talk to her you can ask for various “fortunes” for various aspects of your game. The first one you unlock lets you pick a social stat and it basically buffs it so that any activity you do for that day for that social stat you picked gets one extra stat point. There’s one for earning more money in dungeons and a bunch of other stuff.
She has a fortune that gives a relationship buff to a social link of your choice. She has a skill that let’s you see the next skill you’ll gain for every social link you have. At Max you will be able to see the entire skill list for all your social links.
So essentially it’s like “hey, give me $5k and I’ll give you a stat point of your choice” early on? I asked someone else and they said she can make it with a reading so that a social link will level up afterwards (if you hang out with them) when it wouldn’t before?
I mean, I’m assuming this just means her fortunes don’t take up time for obvious reasons.
