Ok, 80 year old man’s house was broken into. He was then assaulted to which degree we dont know. It’s very likely he was concussed or not in his right mind.
He is able to get a hold of his gun, and in fear of his life chased after them and shot her.
Self defense, justified and in the right on the side of the law.
It’s ugly, very fucking ugly but it was not his ugliness that needs to be borne witness to. It’s the criminal’s who committed a home invasion with assault and possibly worse had they not been stopped.

The facts point that after he was assaulted all actions he took was to survive, for fear of his life (both in the present and future), and ensure this shit wouldn’t happen again . Any lapse in judgement is now a legal grey area. Which is left there by the law so that it can look at it on a case by case basis. Ideally, he would have called the police and let them do their jobs. It’s one thing to have your house broken into by an unknown person, but in this case, he has direct descriptions of those accountable. Also, now that they know this guy is packing and ready to use it, it would be far less likely for them to come back. They weren’t looking for a fight when they robbed this guy, they were just really, REALLY stupid in how they did it.
That said, in his shoes, I could very easily see myself doing the exact same thing as this old man, but that doesn’t make it right in the eyes of the law.

That would be when the decided to rob his house when he wasn’t home rather than just kick down the front door when they knew he was there. He came home when he did and rather than just hightail it out of there, they decided to try and take him out so they wouldn’t get caught. Once he got his gun, that changed everything for them and they tried to get out with their lives. Not entirely successful, there. But you can’t say that they were looking for a fight when they went to rob an absentee 80 year old man. That’s just ridiculous.

It would matter a lot to the people saying “They’ll come back and kill him later!” Obviously they didn’t want none of the guy when they found out he had a gun. He was out of imminent danger when they fled the scene. Killing in that case is doesn’t exactly fall under the terms of justifiable homicide.

News flash: The law failed the moment this guy’s house was broken into and the culprit wasn’t caught, allowing them to return multiple times, eventually leading to this. Anyone who believes you can or should sit around and let the law/government handle everything is seriously retarded. There are times when you need to take your life in your own hands, because the law won’t always make it in time or even at all. Keep depending on it and see where you end up.
