honestly, I would be completely happy if they gave him a useful ultra, got rid of the stupid fucking losing of the claw/mask, and made his roll faster.
Vega has to work without his Ultra, even in high level play. I mean look at Ryu:
Ryu:
Jumping MEdium punch into ultra
Super FB Ultra
ldp into ultra
ex dp into ultra
ex hurricane kick into ultra
DP FADC into ultra
Claw:
L3 FA into ultra.

I would say his lvl. 2 FA is more reliable for landing the ultra. But yeah it is fairly dirty that such a crappy ultra with such crappy damage has to be one of the hardest moves to pull off as well as to actually land.

Ultra SGS is a beast AA, punisher.
Super kara SGS is basically a 'roided up SPD.

It punishes different things. I certainly wouldn’t say it is good, but it has its uses. Useless is a bit far, the fear of it being available can let you get away with some interesting things.
Well it’s not really that useless. Vega does have a very good range with his FA, granted you have your claw, and you can connect BHC off that, anywhere on the stage
I don’t think it’s that great for punishing though. Unless your opponent’s stupid, they’d know to stop throwing out fireballs once they see your Ultra bar (even though its not really something to fear due to such terrible damage …)
And it is nice to have your opponent stop throwing fireballs isn’t it? I like vega’s ultra more than some characters.

Lol yes I was going to say that. They only stop fireballing if you’re crouching in the corner at one end of the screen where, unfortunately, Vega poses approximately 0% threat to the opponent.
Stuff those fireballs with sMKs! Block and punish cMP those close-mid hadous! Use your heightened jump to really punish those fireballs! BACKFLIP! Early FBA punish those fireballs! The options are limitless! Fireballs shouldn’t be a problem for any Vega user. Especially with a 1 second charge on both walldive attacks. Just don’t get predictable.
Uhmm… and how does this relate to the practicality of his ultra, exactly? All that shit is pretty standard suff for any half decent Vega player anyway so I don’t know how this comes into how good his ultra is.
No offence intended but if you’re doing all that stuff without ultra meter I don’t know why this would change AFTER you’re getting that ultra.
Vega’s ultra is ok IMO. It’s good fireball counter but doesen’t work on any decent player. It really shines against Akuma’s, they have to be really careful throwing them air fireballs. Is it realible as AA ultra?
I’m pretty sure that i’ll use his new one whatever it is.

i think they should give the player option of removing the mask before the match in ssf4 maybe without mask +10% damage also -10 to 15% damage taken not 25.
Not unless it did a lot more damage or was combo able off of a lot of moves.
He lacks a lot of things like invincibility on an attack, crossup, overhead, fadc combos etc. All of those are essential to sf4 since all the top dawgs can do an invincible AA move into their ultra (Sagat, Balrog, Ryu, Rufus).
Maybe it would be more “fair” to have the non-comboable ultras do crazy damage and the comboable ones do a lot less?
Your ultra notion is one of the more logical solutions. Big ultra’s shouldn’t be comboable, the damage should be inversely proportional to the difficulty to hit, assuming relative character balance before the ultra.
Overhead attacks are not that important in SF4 though. Fadc is only REALLY important if it takes a move that would end, and turns it into alot of damage. Getting that extra fireball into crouch hp tatsu is fine and all, but turning that dp into ultra is very important.
He needs his speed back.
Yeah I mean Gief and Akuma have big damage and can’t combo into theirs, yet they are still good characters. Ryu has a lot of options to combo into, but his is pretty weak.
Even if overheads aren’t used much, it’s an option he doesn’t have. If you use vega and try to pressure someone, all they have to do is crouch block and get ready to tech…
And a lot of characters can ex cancel into more combos (like after a fireball). It may not be a lot more damage, but it is just another option to keep your opponent guessing and on their toes.
EDIT: And if Gen can keep his Alternate Costume’s mask on, then why cant vega? It seems like they took vega and separated his strengths into Gen(fast HP roll), Fuerte(speed and overall confusion) and Rufus (Speed). He’s a Ninja that does nothing Ninja like. Yet the latest capcom interview talks about how they’re making sure to make Guy, very Ninja like…
