Chun, Gen, Sagat, Ryu, Ken, Balrog, Rufus, Viper, Seth, Abel, Sakura, Fei Long, Dan, Cammy, and Gouken all have ways to land their Super/Ultra for at least 40% at the end of the match. Even Fuerte has Run-Stop-Fierce.
The engine is designed to have big comeback opportunities when you are down. While it is not Vega’s character style to be a heavy hitter with tons of power, he at least needs the same abilities as everyone else to do damage when it matters.
As I have said before, it comes down to risks and guessing. Vega has to guess right/find twice as many opportunites as the other characters because he gets less from each correct exchange. He is high risk/lowest reward. He at least needs some chance to get a big reward and capitalize on his efforts when he needs it.
Nope. A true safe jump cant be air to air’ed by anyone.
I didnt read through this thread but has anyone suggested that his EX FBA and regular ST have taller hitboxes? Its bullshit c.mk, c.mp xx EX FBA and c.mk xx ST (from beyond point blank range) and s.hp, c.mp xx EX FBA only hit on fat characters.
I wouldnt mind if they whiffed when his claw falls off (which is still bullshit IMO) but c’mon.
I think the problem is the hit animation that your opponent does. Getting hit with crouching mp makes them bend over like they were just stabbed in the stomache. It would be damn cool if it didn’t make my combo’s wiff. So maybe making crouching mid punch have different hit properties so the opponent doesn’t go into the crouching hit stun.
I’ve only read the first 3 pages, so I wont mention the ones I read. Here’s for SSFIV Claw :
Juggle any form of S.T to Ultra. EX Sky High Claw can do it, I think they should allow for Bloody High Claw as well.
Can we have the backflips resemble the S.T a little more or vice versa? At least create some sort of guessing game.
Add more plus frames to the Jabs and shorts (I know this is greedy to ask for)
I want claw throw to be similar to Dudley’s Rose taunt from 3S, I think it would be the nuts to be able to incorporate claw throw into combos and to take it further possibly link into other attacks from it.
Seems as though his sweep is way too unsafe in every circumstance. If this changes, I might use it!
In looking through the improvement threads for returning SF characters, one of the most common things is for people to ask for something the character used to have in some previous game. I wish you guys would throw that out the window already. SF4 is a new series, and while returning characters should keep the essentials that identify them as those characters, they should also have significant differences.
Remember, you’re not re-building ST Claw here, you’re just trying to bring SF4 Claw from a place where he’s competitive but can’t win big tournaments to a place where he can actually win big tournaments without being too good. Personally, I think the way to do that is to take the things that make SF4 Claw SF4 Claw and enhance them, not to blend SF4 Claw with his HF, ST, or CvS2 incarnations.
Remember also that you’re not necessarily trying to make a complete, all-around type character that can deal with every situation, you’re trying to balance the cast while keeping the different characters as unique as you can. Does Vega really need a better flipkick in that light? Why would you take a character like Vega and make him a better turtle? His game in 4 is more about zoning, runaway, or even rushdown than about turtling. To give him the ability to turtle would make him better, but it would be making him better at the cost of making him less unique and less strategically interesting. The series and game already has enough all-around type characters.
I wouldn’t make significant changes to regular flipkick, except I think I’d make it do more damage for the few situations where it is used. I’d probably make ex flipkick better at beating stuff though, since spending a bar to be an occasional turtle isn’t a huge problem.
Obviously Capcom has to fix the walldive pursuit problem, preferably by just making it move faster. I think it would be nice if walldive recovered faster when you just drop from the wall without pressing a button. There’s no reason for fierce roll to have 20 frames of startup. It would be nice if ex dive hit a little closer to the ground so fewer characters could duck it. There already is a range where slide is safe, but it could be a little bit safer still. His normals could have a little less recovery. Punch dive doesn’t need to be unsafe on hit. Ultra, or at least his new ultra, should be a real reversal.
Those aren’t big changes, they’re slight tweaks that focus on helping Vega do what he already does better. This character is not far from being good.
Wall Dives need to be faster. Anyone who actually gets hit by it is a joke. Even when you do hit it, it only does 90 damage. You hit, you get damage that is less than most sweeps. If it gets blocked, you eat x BnB combo for 240+ damage (or even Ultra).
If you’re grabbing people out of SRK’s, they’re doing it wrong. SRK’s have 2-6 frames on invulnerability (depending on punch used). You can’t grab someone out of a timed SRK.
Not to mention Focus Backdash just rapes walldives anyway. If you slash, they absorb. If you go for throw, they will backdash it and you will whiff.
Ryu and Balrog just jump anyway and do their F.HP/RH, beating out all your attacks (and air throw).
Vega has tools to win, just not as many and effective as MOST characters.
Backflip is hilariously bad. You might as well block/focus attack/back dash their move and recover fast enough to punish. With backslash (backflip), they can recover AND punish you on recovery, even if you read the move.
Super is dead. Ultra is bad. Chun/Honda/Guile Ultra is more useful/landable and does superior damage.
Vega will never be viable unless he gets a real reversal, Super, Ultra, specials that don’t get stuffed by random shit.
What UltraDavid said made a lot of sense, and in most cases is what Capcom will most likely do to actually improve Vega. It will not move him up as much as most of us hope, but will make him a more competitive character for sure. If Vega could get a more reliable blockstring or ability to hit confirm a lot easier (online mostly) then I could see his pressure game being a lot better. Overall I think if they just improve his air dive and walking speed and left everything else the same it would help him out immensely. Oh and fix that Ultra either by making it a little wider or less recovery so it is at least a very strict timing to punish.
Personally I’d like to see all of these but It’s doubtful.
Faster startup on all versions of RCF and have ex significantly faster.
Scarlet terror - less startup, less damage, more pushback.
Flips - further range on 3P one.
SHC - ex workimg like FBA and hitting opponent into move.
FBA - Izuna drop range needs to be fixed severely.
Ulta - aim at opponent to hit them to the wall with you ala ex FBA.
Ultra 2 - Would be awesome to have a RCF ultra/super for once, maybe one you do from mid fba would add trickyness and some nice scare tactics.
Super 2 Either aforementioned ultra 2 or a ST one.
Why the fuck would most of my posts be in the Vega forums if I didn’t play him? You’re probably some random who goes on, uses wall-dives on some online noobs, and think Vega is damn good.
If you had PSN ID we could have a go at it right now, Remix or SFIV.
your complaints are just scrub-level “OMG no win button” bullshit, which is why he called you out on being a shitty Vega… you are complaining about things without understanding how each move is supposed to work
Obviously Vega has tools for certain situations. But are they even half as good as other characters? Scarlet Terror and Dragon Punch. One works all the time, has invul frames, excellent reversal, 160 damage. The other does the same damage, but has no invul, gets beat out by jabs, and doesn’t combo if opponent is crouching.
Ryu doesn’t need air throw when he can just do lp. dp and juggle with ex-fireball/super/ultra. He can do a deep fp.dp for 160+ damage if he has no metre.
Flash Kick is much better than Scarlet Terror, and even that isn’t up to standard.
I have the damn right to say what I believe because I’ve been using this character for longer than most people and built a solid understanding of what his advantages/disadvantages are.
If Vega was as good as people claim he is, my win ratio wouldn’t immediately shoot up after I chose Ryu. I didn’t even spend half as much time on him.
nj. hk in juggleable state won’t solve any of Vega’s problems.
Again, Vega has tools but they’re WEAK compared to other characters.
