Every time I hear crying about rage I refer back to the source of rage, which also happens to be everyone’s favorite Tekken game, TTT. I’ve heard no one complaining about losing to a tagged in Netsu-charged char. . Basically I’m saying to suck that shit up, it’s not new, and it’s not going anywhere. The only difference now is that it is guaranteed to happen at the end of their lifebar instead of 3-7 hits like it did in TTT.
It’s not even worth discussing, dude. I bow out of *that *part of the post.
Rage is dumb because it simultaneously adds nothing to the game, strategy remains identical, your combos are just better. And turns it into a situation where player A lands one weak combo, player B lands 2 or 3 nice combos and brings A to the brink of death, and suddenly their effective health is even.
The problem with Ultras is that they take way too much damage. Out of every character’s arsenal of attacks, Ultras do more than Supers, EX, Specials or Normals.
A comeback mechanic should not do the most damage, especially when it is gained by losing life. If Ultras were different somehow, like if they had insane priority or full screen range but did the same damage as a Super or something, then I wouldn’t have any problem with that.
maybe instead of putting dumb shit in games to make artificial comebacks people can just get a bunch of hits on the other player and take his health down. thats a cool way to make a comeback
There’s no objective precedent for what a comeback mechanic should be, let alone how much damage it should do if at all. All we can do is comment on behalf of our tastes. We shouldn’t fall in that fallacy of making objective calls. FG community does this a lot.
@ mind games
lol The general public doesn’t enjoy getting bodied and have taken to the concept of comeback mechanics well. It’s probably not going anywhere and FGs *without *a comeback system will be the rarity.
all you ever do is make sweeping statements about the FGC. who do you think you are?
…Kalyx? Stay on point, I haven’t the patience to ‘do the dance’ on a forum. Drink tea or something, you’re so aggressive.
Edit:
I don’t make objective calls; I *do *make observations. Not my job to make observations people wanna hear.
Half-assed observations that people strike down instantly.
Cute to say but when my posts are supported by current events (not a coincidence) it just makes whoever counters it look delusional.
So when I say something like “Sent’s not that strong, he has weaknesses, people are being babies,” and dudes react like I dissed their moms. And then Sent is revealed to have obvious weaknesses, but let’s forgot Kalyx (and some others) said what we needed Seth or Sven to say. Similar things happen about people overreacting over the exchange counter system. Did a whole blog on it. Months later Seth comes out and pretty says what I wrote. Currently exchange counters aren’t even in conversation.
I’m not appealing to authority. I’m not tooting my own horn. Actually I don’t even talk MvC3 these days, and there’s a reason I started making views on the FG community in general. Certain tropes of the community are comical. Theory fighter culture. Overreactions to little changes. Overly critical mind states. Over entitlement (well that’s a general gamer thing). Stream kiddies who watch more than learn through experience, etc. I point this out sometimes in jest, other times serious. Most of the time, it’s waved off - until some FG commentator or developer says the same shit and it’s like, “Yeah, he has a point. Wow.”
Spare me.
It’s called trolling. Come on.
Yes wonderful, not really sure what the point of this one is, of course there’s no objective precedent for something wholly subjective like this.
I’m really not so sure. The “general public” doesn’t follow a game pre-release very heavily, they tend to not know what the fuck an ultra or an x-factor is before the game comes out. I certainly didn’t on the former… and I really can’t see the games failing to perform if these mechanics don’t exist. Nevermind that if they idea was as prevalent as you imply, it’d be more ubiquitous, wouldn’t it? It doesn’t exist notably outside the fighting genre (hell, CoD in the world attempted to use such a mechanic and they were panned for it… while people seem to love their take on the super meter, which is the exact opposite concept. )…
It’s just something the devs feel like throwing in a game, please don’t try to throw it up onto any sort of pedestal.
Another thing that has been watered down in FGs since ST is throws. Ever since SF3, throws have to be performed with 2 buttons and have a startup time of at least 2 frames (including command throws like SPD), same thing in SF4. I can understand not wanting to make throws as powerful as they were in SF2, but having startup time really makes them useless as reversal attacks.
If I’m knocked down and my opponent is very close to me on wakeup, I can’t do a reversal throw to beat his meaty. Similarly, and much more importantly, if my opponent tries to tick throw me with frame advantage, I have no chance to reversal throw due to the 2 frames of startup. The only way to escape is to reversal attack (SF3, SF4) or jump away (SF4). BTW being able to jump away really makes grapplers very weak.
Why are throws so important? Because that is the only type of attack in the game that cannot be blocked. If an opponent does not fear being thrown, he can block all day, and leads to more and more turtling strategies. Throws need to be strong in order to keep an opponent from constantly holding down back.
Also throws shouldn’t be too strong. Having them activated by 2 buttons takes care of this, but it would also be nice if there were a variety of 2 button throws, such as 2 punch buttons or 2 kick buttons activating a throw, instead of just Jab+Short.
For the next SF game it would be nice if throws had zero startup. It would definitely make reversal throws stronger and give people another option to beat tick throws, besides just reversal attacks. Also would be nice if mashable throws came back, along with the mixups they had. So many exciting things have been removed from the modern FG!
Funny all I have to do is write a sentence and you try and attack back with an essay, and that essay is something that isn’t even related to me. My avatar is Children of the Atom related not MvC3.
You figured it out. Bravo. Forget the blogs and interviews. Devs are just doing it for the lulz. Case closed.
Whether you like it or not, give them more credit than them acting senselessly. Surprised you’d even say this.
For saying this?:
And that was me being neutral about it - I don’t care much for comeback mechanics since they tend to be too obvious.
So when I say dudes online tend to jump the gun and take things out of context I’m blowing smoke, eh?
“Attack back”
This isn’t war it’s a discussion. And if writing too much is an issue; read less.
why are you trolling everyone
Acting senselessly has nothing to do with it. I just disagree with the framing you’re trying to put it in. It’s a simply a thing that they felt would make the game better, nothing more.
Don’t think you read it well enough. The way you worded it, you are sort of putting it “above” certain other features in terms of how important it is to people, which is where I’m disagreeing with you. Minor mechanical nuances are not really a selling point for the game, at least not to the extent you seem to be trying to put it. And again, if it was such a big deal, wouldn’t it be more widespread?
This didn’t work when ElderGOD did it, won’t work now. Reply something of merit or carry on.
I think you’ve misunderstood how I was ‘framing it’. I didn’t sell it has good or bad.
How in the *hell *did you register that? Fuck sake, man.
“Big deal”? Did I make it a big deal? All I said was it would be more normal than otherwise, because the harsh nature of FGs are still a hard sell for general gamers. It might not happen. Life goes on. But turning this into ‘STFU Kalyx you troll’ don’t do any favors. All it does is derail shit.
You don’t need to write a lot of around subject that is completely off topic. You’re the one that brought up MvC3.
To support a counterpoint. Notice it’s never mentioned again.
All you do is start arguments. You are a troll.
