SFxT General Discussion Thread rev.B

LOL. All I’m saying is that everyone wins if the gem system turns out to be not that bad. The optimists can say “We told you everything would be alright!” and the complainers can think “Hey our complaining worked!”

The only way the complainers would think that is if they took out Gems, changed the graphics back to 2D sprites, and make the learning curve unreasonably high.

Then they’d wonder why no one is playing it a month later. (See: 3SO)

But we can base positive shit on fuckin guessing? That’s cool huh? And Capcom has been 50/50’ing us for awhile, that’s why they have such a shitty rep right now. Where have you been these last couple years?

And this a discussion thread, all we can do is guess and comment on what we know, that’s the fun of forums. IJS

Mother fucker are you reading what I am saying? No.

It’s not okay to base your responses to forum posts on guessing either.

It’s a forum, deal with it. Complaining at complainers doesn’t really help things, now does it?

And personally, the only problem I have with gems is that they are NOT optional. This is where my problem lies, because its seems like yet another dick move by Capcom. But to appease you, I’ll wait til the system is fully revealed. Does this please you master?

I mean don’t put words in my mouth. It’s called a Straw Man fallacy, and it’s fuckin’ stupid, especially after I already said “no it’s not okay to blindly be positive either.”

Anyway, you could talk about things that make you not like the gem system that we know about.

Look at Capcom’s History with scrubby mechanics.
Understand our concern yet?

It’s not blindly guessing if it’s something that Capcom has been doing for years.

Maybe if you tell me what a scrubby mechanic is first.

Anything that wasn’t in Super Turbo or MVC2, would be my guess.

Something that takes away from the game’s competitive nature in the name of a number of things:
Comebacks
"Good for new players"
“Shakes things up”

In short, anything that wasn’t in Super Turbo or MVC2.

I don’t even like MvC2, sorry
I’d also argue against someone who calls A-Groove a scrubby mechanic just because it does a lot of damage.

EDIT: Also just because MvC2 didn’t have a scrubby mechanic, doesn’t mean it wasn’t broken as hell (For better or for worse)

My problem with that is that it isn’t clear why something would take away from a game’s competitiveness. As far as I can tell, the only thing that makes a game successful at competition is being fun to play at a high level. It’s sort of hard to gauge how things fit together like that without being able to see the future.

To that end, I’m not sure that it’s even what the mechanic is supposed to do over how it’s executed. Like, would MvC3 be markedly more fun without X-factor? Maybe, but would having something better than x-factor be more fun that that? It certainly seems like it’s within the realm of possibility.

Is Cody revealed yet? No? Dammit exits thread

They will find a way.

I’m imagining the online now, once the Ken/Ryu teams get over their autoblock gems that do more harm than good for them, they’ll stack defense gems and hope you stuff up your links.

“By the way, do you think the total number of Gems is 50? 100? Hmm, I don’t think so… Tons of Gems are in preparation! The best part is still to come!”

I like the newly revealed activation condition, activate when your move is blocked. I hope that has some powerful gem attached to it.

It sure is starting to look like the number of gem slots has dropped to 3.

I think a lot of people would be very pleased with that, especially as far as tournament organization goes.

I’d like to know how many Gems you start with; has there been any mention of this?

When is this Hong Kong event Ono talked about on his twitter? This weekend?
