SFxT General Discussion Thread rev.B

You know what my favorite comeback mechanic is? Making the damage really really high like in sf2, so you are never out of a fight

It wasn’t just the press release. There were at least two text interviews (or at least they were transcribed from audio interviews) where Seth said you can pick no gems. I will admit, however, that the translation of Ono’s “can’t turn off gems” may have been (slightly) misleading.

Its magical ain’t it. Everybody loooooooovveeeesss to prove a point. :shy:

Neither of which I’ve seen on SRK.
A lot of people, myself included, get their news from SRK and nowhere else, because my coworkers and friends tell me about all the non fighting games coming out and link me to youtube videos and whatnot, SRK is only place I need to be.

That’s funny, because the two articles I’m talking about WERE on SRK; that is how I knew about them and read them.

I looked back all the way to before NYCC and I’m having trouble finding them.
Were they by any chance on seemingly worthless articles?

It’s possible. I don’t really remember when I read it. It could have been in one of those “News roundup” things too. I pretty much read every article that comes through, or at the very least, Keits little blurb for it. Anyway, that’s not really important anymore. The important thing is that…Dudley is still not in this game.

They should replace Pandora with Cremora.

Absolutely! And Screw ‘Damage-Scaling’ If you do a combo that takes all my life then so be it! But then the game should go with the last man standing routine like Marvel where all of characters health must be depleted to win.

Wait…in SF2, the lower your health the more damage you do? I thought damage in SF2 was random at times…

Well the point of it was to emulate Tekken Tag, and the one-character-down method works very well in TTT, but in this game, not so much.
In Tekken Tag, random tagouts from a long range is safe due to the speed of tags, and the nature of Tekken.
In SF x Tekken, the tag-out is very slow and dangerous at all but fireball zone range, and even then you’ll probably eat a fireball, any closer and you can, and often will eat a jump in into a full combo, a poke cancelled into a special/super/cross art, or a hard knockdown.
Even after a hard knockdown raw tag was too slow to not get my partner reversal’d.
These aren’t problems in themselves, but they are problems when I essentially have to get a hitconfirm into an EX tagout (Or whatever the “cross” name for it is) just to get out of danger of losing the round.

I’d prefer to see raw tag vs. EX Tag balanced a bit better before we start throwing away the TTT idea.

The lower your health the less damage you take. But the damage is so high and it’s so easy to dizzy someone that it’s possible to make a comeback off of just one good read. It is quite hard to win against good zoners in SF2, especially pre-ST titles when you’re down on health. ST does have a comeback mechanic though. If you’re down a round the maximum damage some of your moves can do is increased.

Damage is randomized between upper and lower bounds. eg. A move can do damage within the ranges of 22 and 26. When you’re down a round, that same move will do damage between 23 and 27. I don’t know what the exact figures are but that’s how ST’s damage and comeback system works.

That’s because neither does Ono seem to have an idea as to how many gems that will be in this game. For a game coming out in 5 months time a lot of it seems unpolished and uncertain.

damn its been a while since my last post~ seems like things are going back to normal…at least i think they are. you know the pre-pandora/gem rage. but it seems that after watching that very interesting video on how Pandora can be used to punishing moves, it may have uses in high lv play if they decide to keep it. and that is something im all up for.
the other thing was people learning/discovering that you can play without gems~ though this was something i had figured out its not to big of a deal since people are going to be pushing for Gems to be used in tournaments and with nothing inherently wrong with them(yet) it doesnt seem like a bad idea right now. but again people rather not deal with it at all.
my opinion on the game has changed here and there but overall im still liking the game, im just interested in seeing new characters again because pandora, gems, new sub system isnt really a problem for me because im willing to adapt to what silly stuff they have me do. needless to say most people dont feel the same way, i just hope there are more people willing to try something different then say the same old thing. i was talking to a friend of mine about this subject on weather or not SFxTK will be at evo past 2012 and i believe it doesnt really matter in the end, because all it matters for it to be at evo once and its done its job. if you look at it…how many years was T6 there? and look how rapidly SFIV changed throughout the years? im not predicting the SFxTK will be updated but rather im saying it maybe replaced by a whole different game altogether. but thats that~ Im looking forward to this crossover.

A lot of people is confused right now. I hope Capcom doesnt put more than 150

Well the thing about Gems is that they can be a boon/bane depending on how you look at it. If I went for like 1 red gems and 4 yellow gems, My opponent would think “oh, this guy is going to play defensively” and just think of a counter strategy to beat me.Whereas if I pick no gems, I have no strategy at all and I have the freedom to play however without my opponent preparing a counter for me or you can just choose random gems and then play mind games with them

I have no doubts that SfxTk is gonna be at EVO with the gem system since it’s said to be the core of the game but from the looks of it now, It’s gonna be the less attractive to play for competitors at EVO. Because If I were to compete in SfxTk in EVO, I would have to invest more time and money because of the gems. Then there’s UMvC3, KOFXIII, SC5, and Skullgirls.

The ONLY reason Capcom isn’t putting in a no gems mode is they want to force you to play against 'gemmers online so that this suck ass mechanic can’t be avoided. Why? Because the Gems are the DLC money machine for this title. It has nothing to do with balance or gameplay and everything to do with GREED. Seth knows it, he just can’t say it. Anyone who can’t figure out that this is amn obvious last minute cash grab by Capcom corporate is delusional.

PS And yes I’m calling it a “suck ass mechanic” without playing it once. Why? Because a Gem system is nowhere near the spirit of the SF and Tekken franchises. It’s stupid, out of place and above all a blatant stab at more revenue by Capcom.

IMHO, if you don’t want or like the DLC don’t buy it.

In general, people have a bias towards thinking that their own opinions are based on facts and reality, and everyone who disagrees is a delusional idiot. Please, always think at least twice before posting.
