Here I am with Bryan on point but yes, having nothing resembling a meter without meter (and even then is pretty bad) is a scary prospect. I guess I never notice that because dlc meter gems xd.
What are you raw tagging for free off of, the Mach Breaker at the end of the Ex Snake Pit wallbounce combo?
Why do people still throw around the âif it wasnât a capcom title no one would care, and it would have not made it farâ excuse. Ppl have been ignoring the crap out of this game since like month 1, ppl hop on the latest indie fighterâs nuts just so they donât feel like theyâre slaving to capcom. To many games out there to be feeling like you have to be playing capcom only. These other companies throwing 1000-8000 dollar pot bonuses. But still complain about capcom.
Basically, its cool to feel like youâre âsticking it to the manâ. That and Capcomâs business side has historically gotten in the way of its development, and at the time that SFxT came out, there was a lot that the game did that was pretty much the âlast strawâ for a lot of people, and it was right on the heels of UMvC3, which itself made a couple of huge mistakes from a marketing standpoint (being release so soon after the original for starters).
Not saying its right or I agree at all, but it is what it is. That said:
This is true. Not that its a bad thing, either.
Sometimes using your brand name to put out a different concept can be a good thing. Despite initial hiccups and PR nightmares, Iâm glad they decided to go forward with, fix most things and from the sounds of it, arenât abandoning the game completely.
But itâs safe to say SFxT has been relegated to side stream/top 4 only/niche player base. The only âunknownâ players are the guys like us who are usually seen online and within this forum. Everyone pretty much got a chance to take down a capcom game cuz it wasnât up to their standards. But itâs only surviving now cuz the player base and capcom see something in their project that the masses donât.
To be fair though even if you are largely safe, even advantageous raw tagging an ex Mach thanks to Ravenâs jab strength, I do not think youâd be in as strong a position had you done his ambiguous jump in off the Alter Ego juggle combo.
Course Raven is a bad example for my argument (and a testament to him being a good partner for Bryan), but I ran into this same problem finding a partner for King. Jack seems like such a great partner they combo well off each other and both have good defensive play in neutral, but King thrives off raw tagging his various throws and while Jack is safe on these, he is disadvantageous being so close. Sure you can psychic MP uppercuts but they can just hold back and mash to beat that.
So I suppose King really needs someone not afraid to be point black to conserve meter.
I will say Thancruz if this game wasnât a Capcom title, it would have never been at Evo or gotten half the exposure. I donât think there is anyway to argue that. In other news, who gives a shit! Why let eventhubs COMMENTS get you down. they are fucking comments by trolls. Who cares?
Canât we talk about something interesting like the game or something and not how people donât like it. SMH.
The main reason why SFxT didnt catch on is that it doesnt cater to dumb and avg people. UMvC3 and SF4AE can both give plenty of fun and success to your avg joe who has no clue about the finer points of fighting games, and since they also have unarguably better graphics and music, thats also a plus looking at it from a âmodern gamerâsâ standpoint. Not to mention in UMvCâs case, they have one badass cast of characters - a fighting game with Dante, Vergil, Wolverine, Magneto, Doctor Doom, Nemesis⌠How can anyone NOT wanna give it a chance?
On the other hand, there is no version of SFxT in any parallel universe in which a silly scrub will pull wins over a good player with random bullshit or by learning setups step by step. A player who is clearly better than his opponent will win pretty much all his matches, and no amount of setups or combos or randomness will make up for your lack of ability to actually play well. This is pretty much why we all love it so much, since most of the time, the better player wins
Thatâs what I thought you meant at first and then I confused myself. Oh well.
What everyone sees as SFxTâs greatest strength is perhaps its greatest weakness. Iâm a new player with poor fundamentals, so thereâs no way Iâm going to win a match at the New York major against someone who has played fighters for years even if they only signed up in SFxT to kill time for Marvel. Besides, donât they put never signed up players vs. Chris G or something in the first round?
Maybe I should go back to Playstation AllStars and my Toro infinitesâŚ
Only way to improve is to fight equal or better players (and IMO, teaching other less experienced players helps as well). SFxT is filled with killer sharks at tourneys - take advantage of that. Hell, find casuals to play against everyone you can pre- and post- tourney. Get feedback if youâre really lost.
Also donât go in knowing youâre going to lose. Go in knowing youâre going to learn. Actually you might be surprised by how you do.
Yeah, I was just being a little bit Jin there. Iâm just psyched to finally go to an offline fighting thing that isnât an anime convention.
The plan now is to work my way up to C+ or B rank and then fight the people on the IRC and learn what a true asswhupping feels like.
@LordWilliam:
I just watched your Lei/Xiaoyu matches and your Jackie Chan is pretty sick. How long have you been playing him for? You are the 4th Lei Iâve ever seen be totally worth watching, so that is some elite company.
Rok is right. I didnât think I would make it to losers finals of my pool for my first sfxt tournament. It also helps if you bring someone else with you, training partner, family member, etc. Having the wife with me kept me calm during my matches and I know I just need to work harder next time.
Ha. Me knowing someone offline that plays fighting games. Ha. Iâll see what I can do, maybe convince some LoL friends that fighters are more fun to watch.
Now that work is settling down Iâm thinking about starting to make treks to Next Level Arcade on the weekends, I am sure Iâll meet some chill players there. Thing is I cannot make it to those Wednesday nights, I do not even know if the place has people on it weekends.
Back on topic, what do people think of Jack/Lei? Claw/Lei?
Im thinking of picking the game up for xbox, hows the competition in europe? Also, how bad is the lag between USA and EU assuming good internet speeds on both ends? On PC lordwilliam is pretty much the only one left who can give me a fair fight, everyone else just keeps trying to break the Law, but to no avail (huehuehue)
