SFxT General Discussion #4 - Witty title

Well, I don’t recall you going on about Asuka’s OPness until after I beat you with her in the King of Cross tourney. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hope I actually am able to make it to TFC though. Would love the opportunity to actually get some offline experience, even if I do end up getting 5-0’ed by you or everyone else.

Also, I’ll finalize the voting now. The winner is…

ELENA AND ASUKA!

Insert Victory Music Here

This should be quite the interesting team. Elena has tons of great pokes and consistent damage with her overheads, and as far as I can tell, safe tags for Asuka. Asuka gets dat damage. Sounds pretty solid imo, though I heard Elena’s defense is…lacking.

No, facing Darkphyre’s Asuka all the time last Spring made me complain about Asuka quite a bit…particularly when she stopped jumping at me!

Your Lili shall perish even if I have to fight Asuka aka strongest character in the game! lool GGs man, I wanted to instant air throw xiaoyu’s overhead so badly, I need to just do it on reaction…and your week 1 Julia is coming along nicely. My Hwo is lacking a lot due to not using him that much anymore, need to spend more time in the lab with him

I actually lold at this, Sagat’s oki consists of throw -> tiger knee -> tiger shot

She is bad at what the majority of generally accepted good characters are good at, which means in the neutral game she will be murdered relatively easily, or at least kept out easily (if she has the life lead and has no reason to press buttons then its not such a big problem), however her oki is so good that if you put her in as anchor and ONLY get her in to do mixups then its a whole other story. I honestly feel like she is one of the best anchors in the game, although still pretty risky to use, since if they happened to guess right and got away, then you can’t do much, especially if they have the life lead and are willing to play lame.

The fact that each of those mixups leads to half your life - especially with power gems and meter - doesnt help your case against her much either

Are Asuka and Heihachi that comparable in oki? I know Heihachi has a great double safe jump but i don’t see how he can threaten rolls without abandoning that and he rarely ever scores a hard knockdown to work with. So in that regard they seem like different characters to me.
Heihachi is better at, well, what is he better than Asuka at? Neutral because fireball dodge/st.lk/f.mp/c.mp?

Pressure, neutral, defense, approach, mixup, synergy… Pretty much everything.

I think the only thing that Asuka is better at is damage, and her high/low game is a bit faster though less safe (Asuka’s overhead is -8, Hei’s is only -1). Also better anti-airs.

And walkspeed too, but Hei’s forward moving normals + ridiculous j.hk + great dash really helps to make up for that imo. Plus his pokes are already a LOT better than Asuka’s.

I fully approve this message. Who over here is a good meme creator (need a picture)?

She has epic corner pressure (maybe the best). That alone wants me to pick her up!

ggs @JLALloyd, your Julia is pretty good. I thought you have played her for longer than just a week. I think you should pair her up with Christie. Imo Julia has trouble against Characters with good mobility and good pokes. Julia does have footsie tools, but she seems to be slow.

Sakura and Rog do not deal that much damage unless I go ham with their super arts. Your team is just rather squishy. Yes she can get really mean cross ups even from neutral jumps.
I feel more comfortable with Sakura or Rog than with Akuma nowadays and since people still say that Rog sucks I will keep trying to show them otherwise. I might send some hilarious replays vs rnk to ssf4evo lol. Rog can definitely keep up with Kaz, Chun and even Jin if the player doesn’t zone with fireballs.

Just a few days ago I got scared when one of the better players switched to Rog, but all he had were full/midscreen dash punches and overhead resets after a hitconfirm… That crap actually hit me… I mean why go for an overhead when you connected two jabs? -_- Still too much respect… Coffee is also the only Rog player I have seen who uses his optimised combos. Oh and Darknid of course.

It is hard for me seeing Poison as bottom 2 because she has quite a few things going for her, but someone has to be there. A real testament to how crazy the characters are in this game.

Knowing how her corner pressure works is a must to be a good Poison and one of the two aspects that make her fun to play. The other is having a grip on her CADC game and knowing when you can dash into throw and start safe jump pressure. It is also essential to have down the c.lp, c.HP link if you want anything resembling damage from her. Everything else is just footsie poking and swatting them with her strong antiairs (if you do not mind giving ground, bj.mp trades with no man).

If you mean her normals canceled into fireballs as corner pressure: That actually has a gap. Large enough for Lars to silent entry through the projectile and punish it. It seems to be hard to read the opponent and bait him into using a move that is projectile invincible only for a punish.

Yeah. The more I played Poison the more I realized her corner stuff likely isn’t as string rific as say, Hwo FLA pressure there, but even so. It requires some strong reads in certain matchups, but the strength of it lies in the fact that your fireball is your CA special, so you have a variety of options after a rep or two.

Heihachi has a lot of options on your wakeup.

He’s great at creating pressure once he’s in.

I don’t think oki is Heihachi’s issue. His issue is that range where characters can step backwards faster than he can walk forward and punish any attempt to dash. He’s sort of like Bryan in that way but Bryan’s limbs cover more space. Heihachi jumps better though.

He still has great moves for advancing like fMP, and fLK. He also has ex EWGF, which is a poor mans EWGF… But a crappy EWGF is still crazy good.

I play Elena I just didn’t think anyone would put her (or Ryu) on Alisa’s level lol

He can close space, but anyone that relies on something like a dash punch to get in risks getting neutral jumped on. A lot of those advancing moves you don’t want to be doing at a certain range either, there is a sweet spot when you’re trying to zone a character like Heihachi and you know ranges where if he attempts one of those it will whiff and if he doesn’t he’s only inching you and all the while risking walking into something like a low forward. When you play zoning mains you recognize these things.

VS me LordWilliam =)

And yea dex I kinda realized that Poison isn’t exactly better. I thought an overhead would alleviate some of the issues I had with Rolento. But all those other issues Poison has just makes me sad =(

Oh I agree, I was just pointing out his mobility is more than just his walkspeed.
