SFxT General Discussion #4 - Witty title

Hwoarang’s F+MK is one of the best, safe on block and on hit you can get 400+ damage when you go into his FLA stance (much easier to do if it’s a CH but need one bar to pull it off)

Edit: Xiaoyu has a sick overhead as well

Sagat, Ryu, Akuma, Nina, Asuka, Heihachi, Hwoarang, Dudley (hell, especially Dudley) all have easily better overheads off the top of my head. Some of them require meter to be really useful, but then they are REALLY useful. Hwoarang’s f+mk is probably the best command overhead, being +2 on block AND flamingo cancellable and all that.

f+mk with Lili as partner can get 419 with an easy link no counterhit, and with the 1 frame link you can get meterless 400+ easily with fla mp hk xx launcher followed by post tag

f+mk 1 bar solo from a 1 frame link is 493 (his max damage solo 1 bar combo in fact) and depending on partner can get up to 530+

Sure I’m always willing to play Hwoarang. I love feeling frustrated. xD

But I want to play Sakura primarily because she is just so underused, but Nina will always be my go to character.

Also I love her and Elena they are just so damn happy

Just put a big Julia guide up on her board… have a look!

Anyone on XBL want to get bopped? I’m going balls deep in 10 min.

I like how SkiSonic complimented knuckledu’s playstyle when he won while at the same time taking shots at some of the not so honest elements of the game. Lol. I think secretly lots of people aren’t gonna root for a certain flamboyant tight jean wearing greased hair fighter. Btw, if u win with Guile and Gief in this game you are a certified boss.

Well, our session would also lag spike every 15 seconds. X(

And you do love your lows with Ryu…

Play later if you’re on. What’s with the 4am put SFxT in? I’ll start spamming invites until you join : )

If you do it early enough you can go right into standing HK xx Frolicking Bear or super. Does a ton of damage for an anti-air confirm.

I was watching Juicebox’s KOF Steam stream and he had “Toto - Africa” in the playlist. Made me think, “Man, I wish I had the skills to do an Elena combo video set to this.”

That song always reminds me of that family guy episode

What’s a “board” and where is it?

If I had the skills to do one I would use this:

Re: Nina’s footsies, I don’t really consider her overhead part of her footsies game, as it’s pretty slow, hasn’t got that great range and doesn’t do anything special like go over lows, like Juri’s Sekku, but I do agree it’s an incredible overhead. Besides that, the reason I said she has flawed footsies is because she doesn’t really have any safe long-range confirms in the same way that characters like Law, Jin, Vega or Bison do. Her best poke is cr.MK, but she can’t buffer it into Geyser Cannon or Skull Splitter, as both are quite unsafe (between -5 and -10, so comfortably jab punishable, and often worse).

Her semi-random Skull Splitters are a neat gimmick, but they are always unsafe, so the risk reward is skewed against Nina - if you guess right, you get 80 damage and a knockdown. If you guess wrong, you eat a full punish for 350-400 damage. Obviously Nina is a great character, and her footsies aren’t BAD by any means, but they do have flaws.

I totally agree on Law’s Somersault. It should be easily punishable, not this -7 and a bunch of pushback malarkey.

I don’t really see why Sagat’s overhead is better at all. No ability to combo off it except in the unlikely event that it’s a counter hit, and it’s less safe, too. I also don’t necessarily think Ryu’s is better. Although having two hits is great, it’s only really useful when you have meter and want to spend it bringing in your partner. Ditto for Nina’s overhead, although I think that on the whole it’s better than Law’s because of its utility as a combo ender.

Asuka, Heihachi, Hwoarang and Dudley I all totally agree on. Apart from Hwoarang though (who is simply the best character at this point), Asuka, Hei and Duds all have offences which are pretty much ENTIRELY BASED around the threat of that overhead. That’s pretty much the key to their game. With Law, it’s just a bonus - it’s actually a pretty small part of the threats he brings to the table.

So yes, there are definitely characters out there with better overheads. There are a lot of characters with worse overheads too. For example, Balrog, Poison, Guile, Vega, Julia, Guy, Blanka, Dhalsim, Ibuki, Marduk, Ogre, Raven, and Paul. Many of those are arguable, I’m sure. But hey, I just don’t think it’s valid to say that Law’s overhead isn’t a threat once you learn how to block it, unless you’re happy to say that about every other overhead. Unless you think 20f startup is the line in the sand beyond which reactions should save you every time.

20 frames is fairly fast overhead. Ah but Juri’s 15f overhead and a low/throw crusher? Sure I’ll take that.

Nina does have footsies with cr. hk/mk and st. Mk/hk to say the least.

15 frame overhead is slow now???

Mmmmmmmmhmmmmmm 4 OH’s are slow now too.
