I used to be pretty damn depressed in high school.
Like I was popular because I was in bands, but I was always a bit of an outcast because I can be somewhat eccentric when I’m not all super analytic and stuff.
I dunno when it was, some point with growing up though and maturing that I realized the difference between most happy and sad people isn’t circumstances because a lot of really happy people live in shitty circumstances and a lot of really wealthy / fortunate individuals are quite sad. In the end the most important thing is your outlook. Since then I’ve been considerably more easy going and I enjoy life more, it took some time to adjust.
I’m a loner by nature. I/I’ve had friends here and there…HS was ok. I got along with some…I was “there” but that’s really it. Eh, I just minded my own business most of the time.
Talking in here is much better than the 20 different “why does everyone hate sfxt?” Threads that invites srk “OGs” that have been posting for 10+ years talking about how lazy we are and need to do this and that , and don’t forget the famous “I don’t like or play this game but…” line.
The “OGs,” are the reason a sizeable portion of the newer membership from the last few years (think 100 posters) shifted over to their own site in freeott which was born from the Marvel OTT, a separate GD community on the same website.
A lot of the older guys like Angelpalm are just outright hostile to anyone newer for no apparent reason, even if they’re not making an idiot out of themselves. Even between the older guys there are cliques and they go in on each other a lot. It’s enough that even a bunch of old posters don’t frequent the other threads.
They’re opposed to growth, this is “their” turf, their space of the internet that they’ve staked out over the past 10 - 13 years. Part of me understands that but this is a very public website, not an exclusive invite only thing and it’s certainly outgrown it’s beginnings.
Like sure, take pride in the fact you helped get it off the ground, but the reaction to new blood on SRK is worse than practically anywhere. Even if it is somewhat deserved some of the time with the endless amount of new player threads bitching about stuff without ever bothering to learn.
OTT has like 90, 000 posts over 100 threads and like 30 - 40 members active daily. It has had 80 on at once before. It’s large enough for my liking without the same toxicity found around here and the eye cancer of Kineda’s layout.
That mindset is exactly why I no longer frequent/reply to front page comments on articles anymore. Its not even an SFxT thing at all - it’s more that the anonymity of the web has given rise to a generation of Monday Morning Armchair Quarterbacks, and 80% of them tend to be hellbent on hating everything they see in life and degrading those who see things another way until they drag their IQ down with 'em in the cesspool of “Internet Beefery”.
That same cesspool is also where we can clearly observe the first of the “Stream-ustri Monster-gious” emerging from the swamps, smothered in the stench of decay and utter vitriol for anything and everything that surrounds them, only able to speak in a grumbling, primal tone and only able to communicate with the faces of dogs, people, constant CAPS key use, and constant sex jokes.
To be fair Dudley uses his elbows and Steve steps on your feet.
I wish there were any events in this area. I will see what gamescom has to offer though. Maybe there will be a Q&A for SFxT. But I will most likely see german SFIV players trying to wake up/empty jump ultra Dieminion and Xian :blue:
Nah I will just check out GC. I will be there for the first time. I’m not sure what to think about mc unveiled. 35€ for one ticket? What exactly is going to happen there? Do you pay for your “free stuff” in advance?
Was last time at the GC 2 years ago, did nothing besides testing Diablo 3 and playing SFxt again and again.
Don’t think that I’ll go there this year, unless a friend will get a press pass once again.
GC with a press pass is so much more satisfying.
35€ for unlimited testing w/o waiting(?), playing against the pros, surprises and some… stuff you’ll get.
Don’t know about the party.
Even had enough time to go there, hooray for semester holidays. But the money, the money.
