SFxT General Discussion #4 - Witty title

I’m sorry, you were saying?

You know deep down underneath that green the purple resides within…waiting…tempting to come out and control once again. You can’t escape…no matter hard you try…you can’t deny it. You’re bound to her…just let Link and Kolana embrace it…feel that power…that seduction…mmmmmmmmmmmm delicious.

PARTNER! WHAT’S A PARTNER!?: My Akuma Partners Help For the Chef!

[details=Spoiler] Depends where you put him to be honest. But for the most part, you want a character who can really take advantage of high launches ( :hp: SRK) and has solid ground combos to boot as well (off of :f:+:mp: ) This allows you to make your two, main simple set-ups much more damaging and effective against your opponents as it will allow you to fear your pressure more.

However don’t get me wrong, if you don’t want damage, you can put defense with defense and play a zoning team, all in all it depends on how you want to play the game and how you want him to work with the specific character. It’s one of the main reasons why I like him so much because you can put him with anyone and in some small way, you can make it work.

Some character ideas would be:

**Mishimas!: Yes I know everyone has a secret hatred for them but they’re good partners nonetheless for most characters. Depending on which one you pick, it’ll effect the way you play greatly. **

If you want raw damage, use Kazuya. Kazuya gets a grip of damage off of high launches and your overhead provided you have the patience to master the purple stuff. Putting Kazuya on point can work but against people who can zone really well, the anchor slot is most preferable.

If you want mix-ups (and bad-ass factor for running two old guys and screwing up the young’uns lives whilst doing it) use Heihachi. Heihachi has an assortment of mix-up possiblities once you tag him in off of your stuff should you be on point and the damage between them is decent. However with Heihachi’s slow walk-speed and poor defense, the anchor slot is highly recommended for this character to work well with Akuma.

If you want an all rounded style of game-play, use Jin. Out of all of the Mishima’s, I’d have to say that Jin is the most well rounded of the lot. Good pressure, good mix-ups, good damage but doesn’t excel in these areas as much as his Mishima brethren. The plus however is that in my opinion you can put Jin either on point or as an anchor and he’ll work just as well.

If you want pressure via using solid footsies and frame-traps, Lars is your character. A lot of his pokes convert into good things and leave him at a good advantage on block and has a troll overhead to stop people ducking all the time, has a little trouble with smart fireball zoning as most of his anti-fireball tools are unsafe and risky but once he’s in there, he works. Lars can work either on point or an anchor but I’d recommend him as a point character because he can set-up Akuma a lot better than Akuma can set him up in my opinion (correct me if I’m wrong on this Rc_ON.)

**Grapplers: You want to play your grappler meta-game but don’t want to go through the hassle of getting in? Akuma can do that for them. Unfortunately it’s both a blessing and curse, in the fact that should Akuma get beat down, it can be hard to make a comeback for some of the grapplers if someone is zoning them out as such it’s better to put them on anchor than on point at least in my opinion. You make the choice at the end of the day. Some ideas for good grapplers would be: **

Marduk can get good damage off of your set-ups and can play the grappler meta-game well to an extent. Not THE strongest grappler out there but he’s arguably more solid than some of the others.

Hugo is raw power he gets a tonne of damage off of your set-ups and can easily end rounds/matches quickly. His normals are slow and the range on his 360 is not the greatest but at the same time.

Zangief is a pretty solid choice, good pokes, decent AA game and throws can make him threatening. His wake-up doesn’t give you much room for your opponents to respect him as without meter, you can throw him through most of his options (minus back-dash)

Female Characters: Don’t get me wrong about this one but Akuma can gel with the female characters pretty well some ideas for them would be:

Xiaoyu: High damage with a simple but effective high/low mix-up game. Low health (900) and poor wake-up options makes putting her on point risky business but as an anchor with a set of power gems on her, she can easily close out a round/match in two solid mix-ups.

Asuka: Similar idea to with Xiaoyu. Slightly higher health (950) and can easily kill a character in two solid mix-ups. Her poor neutral game along with her lack of solid wake-up options solidifies her in the anchor slot.

Lili: Self promotion aside, Lili gets a tonne of damage off of Akuma’s set-ups and can mix-up really well. A very high damage combination which can be played either way. But low health means you’ll have to either stocking up on defense gems or going all out to put some damage on the board. ‘Win quickly, die quickly’ is one of the Akuma players’ mottos and she’s kind of like that to an extent.

Nina: The more solid option when it comes to the female characters. Good solo damage out-put, good footsies and mix-ups. Probably the most talked about character on here regarding combos and a wealth of experts here should you need help with using her. Can be played in either position to an extent but the choice is yours.

Juri: A very versatile character in the fact that she can zone and apply some good pressure in her own right. Her wake-up is tougher to shut down than other characters because of her counter making meaties not so effective against her. She can be played on either the point or the anchor slot but that’s all dependent on your play style. Her play style is what you make of it to be honest.

**Straight Up Brawlers/Fighters: Characters who just want to hit stuff, pressure and worry about it later **

Law: The all rounder (minus a projectile) works well as a point character due to his set-ups arguably being better than yours, plus he has the health to last longer than Akuma can.

King: Yeah I put King down here because why not? He tends to fit this category more than the grappler category. Good pressure vs characters who lack 3 frame normals and can do some good damage off of his set-ups. Lack of a solid move to get him out on block does hurt him somewhat so you’ll need to make sure that you can get him in and out effectively.

Balrog: Under used but effective. This guy is like a ‘human wall’ style of character. His pokes have good reach and can convert into good stuff. He lacks a solid move to get him out if things go south and an awkward cross-up. So solid fundamentals is a must to playing him well.

Kuma: An unorthadox but heavy hitting character. Gets a decent amount of damage off of :hp: SRK e.g. he can get his Hunting Tackle off of it. Better played in the anchor slot so you can slap some power gems on him to end matches quickly. Has a command throw to top off his offense as well. He’s also quite fun to use if you’re into learning stance based characters.

**Team Fundamentals: Classic SF characters who rely on the simple things in life. **

Ryu: Can’t go wrong with Ryu. A gameplan which has worked on people for a good 20+ years due to how solid it is. The more fundamentally strong you are the more you’ll get out of him in terms of success.

M.Bison: Good footsies and frame-traps make this guy a good asset to teams. Coupled with the fact that it’s hard to defeat his wake-up makes him pretty good in that aspect. His AAs aren’t great, he has to go air to air for most of his AA needs but is still effective nonetheless. Much better as point character than an anchor due how good his pokes are.

These are just some ideas to get you started.

You could also forgo everything I’ve said and play Bryan. I remember you used to play him back in the day. [/details]

What no Juri!!!..Rose…>:/

No. We have broken Juri’s grip; we have freed ourselves from the power of the Feng Shui Engine. Never again shall we be tempted by that power! We shall fight against it! We will not falter again!

That’s what you said before…the FSE pulled you back…you’ll be back…I know it. grins

You should play Akuma / Kuma.

No bears…>_>

No grizzly and unbearable puns now please.

I can’t bear to see kuma

Lost my bearings…please bare with me people

Don’t mean to give you paws, but it’s time for these grisly puns to hibernate.

Damn I didn’t put her in there. I should’ve considering I’ve been trying to use her recently for what the 8th time since I started playing this game. I’ll update it now along with Frosty’s suggestion.

Juri goes with everyone…She’s like a hungry bear…searching something delicious.

I had to jet, and that last loss made me a tad salty. We should meet again, I like fighting another Asuka.

And you wonder why I left the Juri army…

Pawlease! Kuma hasn’t found his bearings in this game to really make a grizzly scene.

I’m Fox News about my YouTube channel, why show both sides of the story!

Actually I was gonna put up an early win against you before you went all crazy with the old man, if you want a Hei win up I could do that too.

Hei’s invincible strike thing is super gay, though.

So, I take it psn is more popular here. anyone on xbl? May be playing tonight

XBL players were blowing up the last two pages, actually.

…Maybe not ‘blowing up’ but a good four of us just posted.
