The whole situation that happened at my local scene just pisses me off. The whole attitude of that community is just…ugh. You’ve got the Mahvel players, which represent like 90% of the players there, who just will do nothing but trash SF X TK and complain about EVERYTHING in the game, from the way it looks, to the way the combos operate, to the DAMAGE (Mahvel players complaining about damage…seriously?). They even go as far as to kick me off my own SF X TK set-up so they can get another Mahvel set-up going.
And then you have the other 10% of the community, who pretty much only play AE (and occasionally Mahvel if AE isn’t around), and refuse to touch any other fighting game because it isn’t “worth their time” because it isn’t as likely to be at a given tournament event and thus they won’t be as likely to earn money off of it. It’s like these players don’t care about enjoying a fighting game, they only play for the money. And SF X TK isn’t as likely to earn them that money, thus they refuse to play/support it.
It’s like every possible combination of player is there to prevent me from having ANY hope of getting a SF X TK scene going. It’s really depressing sometimes.
I also picked up Elena and Sakura. I used Hwo way before 2013 was even a thing. My char picks and play style are HARDLY decided by tier-listings…ever. Besides, Kit hates Hwo but he uses Nina. Just cause I use a top-tier, doesn’t mean I can’t dislike op stuff. Also, that doesn’t mean I can’t see that Hwo’s really strong too. I just think Chun and Nina should take priority over Law, Jin, Kaz, and Hwo.
I don’t build excuses when I lose. Or rather, even if I do, I take it upon myself to try to win. Even if I’m salty, I’m not gonna tell someone to pick one char over the other, or they don’t deserve to win simply because they used one char or the other.
I know people don’t like nerfs, but a game’s gotta have BOTH to be balanced properly. No single patch in SFIV had only buffs or only nerfs. I don’t think any game has had ONLY buffs or ONLY nerfs. It’s just not wise. It always needs both.
The only thing those articles do for me is remind me just how hard it is to get people to play this game in general. It’s depressing.
I think the real moral of the story is that these people don’t matter.
That’s the thing I’ve learned over time.
I used to think that SFxT didn’t sell as well because of all the controversy, gems, DLC, etc. And, to a certain extent, that definitely hurt it. But, looking at the sales of other games that came after (and even just before it), I’m not so sure that SFxT’s lower-than-expected sales could have been avoided. Fighting games simply aren’t as big as they were 3 years ago…unless they have a massive license to attract people who don’t even care about fighting games (see: Injustice, JoJo)
These same EH commenters are the ones who praised TTT2, Skullgirls, Persona, DOA5, blah, blah, blah, blah. And, none of those games really did better than SFxT…sales-wise or tourney-wise.
These people have been spitting on SFxT for a straight year and a half. Yet, I still run into lots of new 0 BP players online. Yet, EVO still gets 500+ entrants. Yet, the game preforms better than most other games released the same year.
EH commenters literally don’t matter. They affect nothing.
You think that’s depressing? My Gief is depressing…gets zoned out for days…THAT’S depressing…that mobility really hurts me…Everytime I play Gief I just imagine Juri with her mobility…sigh it’s a tough loss…really tough.
@cg123n1 Yea but you playing Hwoarang isn’t even comparable to me playing Nina. She’s my fantasy girl bro I mean the sole reason I picked her was because Juri shouted her name when you tag in, of course that was before I knew about character alignments but yea (and she’s also a milf). I mean if Juri’s offense was as good as Hwoarang I wouldn’t complain. Also look at the top tier characters that I complain about (Law, Hwoarang, Kazuya, Jin). Notice the trend? Niggas. Not one of them are milfs or sexy. Even worse they ain’t even elegant like my boy Vega or even remotely boss-like like Dictator.
Conclusion: Hwoarang just sucks because he’s not a milf so there. >:(
I don’t think the biggest concern the xTekken community has is getting new players, it’s getting the current players out of their houses and to tournaments/weeklies. I’m looking at you London scene.

Besides, Hwoarang’s blunt attitude against guys like Claw and Heihachi makes me like him all the more. To boot, the Ryu-themed colors do some real work when I win with Hwo while Ryu’s on the screen:

I know I’m super late on this, but I just found out that SFxT supports custom soundtracks on PS3. I can finally lab without that dumb training mode theme making my sessions monotonous and dull!
It’s true, it’s a young scene and it’s a scene that has established itself largely with a new breed of players coming through, picking the game up and playing online.
The offline scene was established before fighting games had an online, they’re two different beasts.
Why are you guys willing to idiotize yourselves by reading eventhubs comments? They are in the same quality of intelectual tier as watching modern day MTV.
