Yeah you are completely right. You definitely have to set up your gems to go with your team. I had on some gems that almost NEVER activated and honestly finding that one gem that goes perfect with your team can make a world of difference.
Same thing I was wondering. I know Rog is just using him for zoning and DP. I think he used to main him in Vanilla SF4 too.
I actually changed out some of my gems recently on most characters (ie, for characters that are likely Pandora candidates when I need them, I put the Pandora damage gems on them, and changing my “on launch” gems and such), and it’s been making a difference.
Like I said, I really like the system now that its initial balance problems are fixed (stupid assist gems), I think Capcom just really over-bloated it. Cut the list down to about a 3rd (with none of the pay-to-get gems), and the system really can work well.

I can’t really say if I hate Gief or not…the only Giefs I’ve faced online were either extremely laggy or just mashed on SPD…well, NegativeEdge’s Zangief was pretty good but it didn’t make me rage or anything…

…soooooooooo moving on, I think I’m really going to learn Nina, which is a first for me… ever. Hated her in the Tekken series (Anna fan), but I like how she turned out in this game, and now that I put in a little time to learn her basics, I like what I’m seeing.
As such, I think I’m going to hold off learning any King stuff until later. Moved Lili down the importance chain too. Nina made that much of an impression on me over the weekend. She does pretty stupid damage, and that command dash/grab is awesome.
Helped that I got blown up by a couple of Nina players last week and needed to learn the matchup anyway. :-p
Don’t worry about it. As long as like no-one was in the room that you know and/or takes video games too seriously was in the room then it’s all good.
Your next challenge is pretty much taking on the inter-webs whilst going into games/endless lobbies without cringing or getting angry at others for accusing you of being a pervert or them making dirty jokes about your characters.
I get it quite a bit when I go into endless lobbies from time to time. So I suppose that you should bear that in mind should you come across horny adolescents/adults with mics.
