SFV wants to SELL THE FGC to the masses. Will it be worth a barebones release?

Only certain characters have them and it’s usually just like one of their heavy normals. Like how Chun still has her neutral jump HK split kicks.

It reminds me a lot of KI too. There was pretty much no neutral jump normals in that game too.

Casuals would stand a better chance if they jump right in at the start when many other casuals are still playing. This is the best time for them to learn the game and have a chance at winning a few games before everyone steps up their game and all the casuals flee online.

I would agree if there were more single player modes and tools for casuals to learn the game. Worst case scenario is that these server issues last several days, and ppl are stuck with a game with weak single-player content.

Even if the server issue is resolved, a lot of people get intimidated by even online casual matches. Many of us here have already played SFV for several hours, and will wreck casuals online day-one. A classic single-player ladder where you can adjust difficulties, would’ve helped. The character challenges that SF4 had would’ve helped too. Ppl need fun safe zones to enjoy the game (as pussified as that sounds lol).

First impressions are very important. We don’t want a SFXT scenario all over again, where the game finds its footing months later, but nobody cares at that point. Let’s not overestimate the public’s patience with Capcom, when they already have a history of doing these same negative practices.

A SFxT situation can’t happen with SFV. Very very different circumstances with that game including it being simply an alternative SF game to another you could already play. People see this as THE SF game now so people will move to it regardless. Certain games just work where they are in an ideal situation where even their screw ups cant stop them from being substantially successful. SFV is that kinda game.

The worst that happens is we don’t get as many casuals on board, but 6 years of content is pretty much locked in.

The matchmaking if done correctly should help create safe zones for multi player as well. Get matched with people who are nearly as good or as bad as you are.

More like Sony is. Don’t really know how it is for other regions, but I believe for Asia, Sony is sponsoring tournaments with money outside of the $500,000 for the CPT.

Aside from that, there are other sponsors. We’ve already got a couple giving us about 5 figures each for Manila Cup.

The Korean guys (ArcadeStream/Core-A) recently made a video about this where they state that, no amount of any sort of full you add in game is ever going to be a replacement to actually fighting other people and holding your Ls as the way to get good in fighting games.

I never said SFXT situation exactly, note for note, just a situation where the game releases with lackluster reviews & scandal, Capcom patches it up after a couple months, but the big crowd is no longer interested anymore. Lets not forget that SF3 was THEE SF game too, and got shafted until 3rd Strike patched it up; but by then the hope for mainstream commercial success was over.

It’s still wait and see with SFV. I don’t know how ppl will ultimately respond to this game 2 weeks from now, or 2 months from now.

I think it’s important that Capcom patches this server up, start announcing concrete dates for these features ASAP, and make this information accessible to ppl beyond just SRK, Capcom-Unity, and Eventhubs.

It feels like Capcom fanboys are doing free SFV public relations work by getting the info out there as to what’s going on with SFV, when that’s supposed to be Capcom’s job as a business. It’s Capcom’s job to explain to the commoner that SFV is a platform & is currently incomplete, but alot of the complaints are from ppl who feel deceived because of miscommunication between the two parties.

I don’t consider myself a casual, I’ve been playing SF since 1991 at the Arcades when SFII came out (yes I’m old), I don’t compete in tournaments but I’ve been with SF since the beginning and I find SFV’s launch a disgrace to the series. The game is barebones at launch, on top of that even after all the betas we’ve had (which were fun extremely fun gameplay wise and worked beside the first one) the game’s online launch is still somehow shit. The game is pretty much paper weight right now (unless you bought digital) and overall had a god awful launch. No support for sticks on PC? It’s 2016 FFS, and it’s SF FFS, how is that acceptable? Why do we have to go through a 3rd party program to make these STREET FIGHTER sticks work? Remove Arcade mode, VS CPU mode, not have big lobbies, or spectator mode, no trials, pathetic 1 round 3-4 fights “story mode” etc…?

I consider myself a hardcore SF fan and I find all this shameful, how do you think casuals feel? At this point it’s not even about them jumping in and trying to get some wins at the beginning of SFV’s life, the game is simply unappealing to purchase to begin with. The gameplay is fantastic, but as an overall package the game is far from worth $60 bucks right now. There is no excuse for Capcom to release a big name franchise like Street Fighter in this state. It’s half-assed, unfinished, and costs $60 bucks. It’s like paying $60 bucks for early access games on Steam, it’s ridiculous.

This is the first I’m hearing about “Capcom Fighters.” PC players aren’t getting a free month? I guess they don’t are too much about promoting that.

I agree 100%. Take a look at the steam reviews, sfv has “mixed” reviews which means it’s almost 50/50 good and bad reviews. Nearly all of the bad reviews are how players can’t rebind their keyboards, can’t use their controller/stick, can’t play online/buggy servers, no single player content.

I was with you until this point.

Bruh.

What? The gameplay works, it’s everything else in this game that’s broken. And I do enjoy it, more than SFIV.

I was just responding to what you said which was…

“We don’t want a SFXT scenario all over again, where the game finds its footing months later, but nobody cares at that point.”

This can not happen with SFV. Not everybody is going to suddenly stop caring about the newest SF game coming off momentum from IV.

As long as you get the people you need for the game to survive for 6 years that’s all you need. Which the game will get as long as it doesn’t go like an entire year without playable online/matchmaking. What did having tons and tons of casuals buy MKX do for the MKX player base? Have a bunch of people bitching about things and most likely having its last content patch dropped for more money potentially than what SFV will cost you. I never understood the notion of needing tons and tons and tons and tons of casuals to buy your fighting game. It’s nice, but not vital to the game being relevant for 6 years.

SF3 never was THE SF sales/commercial wise. It was THE SF game in tournaments in the US for 3 years, but never was any type of relevant success like IV or even Marvel 3. That’s coming from a 3rd Strike tourney goer/fan. It was the hipster SF game at best and never got a standalone disc release in the US except on Dreamcast.

SF3 arrived off the momentum of SF2 and got kicked to sidelines, and SF4’s momentum wasn’t as strong as SF2’s. If SF2 hype can get derailed in a matter of months in '97 (when most didn’t even have Internet access, just word of mouth), then SF4 hype can definitely get derailed today.

And SFV could be become the 2nd coming hipster SF. Which is good for you, but bad for Capcom & the franchise; because that wasn’t Capcom’s intention for SFV, to break even with a underground tournament scene that will always be there no matter what they shit out. The goal was to expand that scene and make it mainstream.

Street Fighter series was never a mainstream game except for SFII The World Warrior

Well hopefully this will end up being free on ps4 later on like Injustice then maybe I will downloaded it after they patch/nerf every ounce of fun that might have been in it.

Nah didn’t work that way. SF3 didn’t get any momentum from SF2. People stopped playing SF2 by the time SF3 came out. Street Fighter Alpha 1 and 2 were already out by then and that’s the time when games like Virtua Fighter, Soul Blade, MK3/4 and Tekken were gaining popularity over SF in the arcades. Couldn’t find anyone crowding a cabinet for SF2 after 93 or 94 and the first SF3 didn’t come out till 96.

When I was at the arcade in 95 to 96 the only arcade games people crowded were the 3D stuff, Mortal Kombat, the new vs Capcom game and Killer Instinct 1/2. People didn’t just wanna play SF. They wanted to play Wolverine and Sakura vs Gambit and Ken. You just had the occasional person or 2 near the SF2 or Alpha cabinet. SF3 clearly was not catching any momentum from 2. It was only catching the downturn of a declining arcade market and an already declining interest in mainstream SF play.

SF as a WHOLE was losing to other games at that time. Even if SF3 never released SF would still be in a dying state in the arcades and on consoles. Alpha 3 had its one last hurrah for SF relevancy in arcade/console and then that was it.

With the logic you’re giving SFIV is basically a hipster SF game also. Casuals giving money to Capcom doesn’t mean they stuck around for any long period of time. There’s more ways to connect to people now and with the game being both PS4 and PC crossplay there’s a lot of ways to get the info around about the game changing over time. It’s set up to be the game you want it to be in the future with lots of people caring about it.

GET OUT OF MY HEAD CHARLES!

You’re not a PC gamer I take it?

Probably longer than you have been, still no excuse for Capcom to pull this shit with their own advertised sticks for this game.

There is no excuse, that much is true.
I chalk it down to Japanese incompetence with PC ports. It’s something that I just expect.
It takes like 5 minutes tops to set up a driver though.
