Madden and FIFA both have basics that newbs to the series already know because they’re probably football or soccer fans though. They know about triangle passing but a newb to SF probably doesn’t know a frametrap from his ass.
I agree there should be some sort of team mode. All the variations of that are usually fun - whether we are talking Melee style where it’s literally 4 guys on the screen at the same time, or it’s 3s Cooperation Cup style, or whether it’s like SFxT style where you can switch out in real time.
Cooperation Cup format is the best way to play 3s. Online cooperation cup for SF5 would be the business.
Well I don’t particularly care for the American FGC but I am probably in the minority. I don’t care about esports, I think top players should go find real jobs, and I think the road to esports legitimacy is paved with less community driven events and more invitationals. You can already see how it formed last generation with the concept of the FG illuminati. Even though it’s meant a joke we all know exactly who that means. I think we’re going to see people try to see the FGC slowly morphed into something more like other esports, where most people who play the game are not considered relevant or important. Instead, we should watch 32 man invitationals of top players and personalities with storylines we should follow.
I love the 3s community, I love how we have had to become self sufficient after being summarily dismissed by the various American FGC figureheads as soon as it as possible, I love how the 3s tournaments in America and Japan and Europe are all about the players before anything else. It’s small enough that we all know each other and if someone new stumbles in, we will get to know them soon enough. Since I’ve only seriously played 3s, that’s my relationship with a FG community, and I think it is nowhere near what the American FGC is now.
There are plenty of other things I dislike about the FGC, and I could probably write a little essay about it, but it’s all stuff we’ve all talked about before. And like I said, I’m probably in the minority. People have always wanted what other esports like CSGO or Starcraft or LOL/Dota have, and I’m sure that’s a great way to attract viewership, sponsors, content creators, etc. It’s just not for me. Give me my 3s American tournies with 50 people in them, most of whom I know by name, and a Cooperation Cup to go to once a year to get raped by the Japanese in. To me, a fighting game scene is a bunch of bums who are convinced they are the sickest player in the world, and want to gather around an old cab to prove who is right. They don’t shake hands before they play, they don’t hug after. They say “I fuckin hate that guy” and resolve to beat them next time.
See, I can be old and grumpy after all! Sorry that post was a little rambling and not coherent. But I’m guessing you know what I mean.
The bigger the FGC gets, the bigger CPT gets. If Capcom wants to increase the profitability of CPT then they have to sell us. If you can watch tourney match vids through CFN then I think it’s a done deal. You start up SFV, log in to CFN and to the left there’s a box that says “Capcom Pro Tour Highlights”.
However, I think SFV’s current barebones state has nothing to do with any of this. It isn’t a gamble. The game was rushed but the rest can be patched in. Maybe they rushed it because of the fiscal year. Maybe they wanted it out before KI on PC. Maybe they wanted it to be out early enough to be the focal point of this CPT season instead of having to postpone it or use USF4 again.
Haven’t read the entire thread but my take is that this has been a LOOOONG time coming. Capcom said they wanted to have stat tracking as early as HDR. But we are on,y now seeing it. As a nerd/stat junkie, I’ve never really been to nerf out on stuff I truly like like fighting game stats… But now I can. I think this is a big step towards esports viability.
I’m all for e sports btw. I played football basketball and baseball in high school… The fact that the sports are all very competitive was always one of if not my main attraction to them. If streetfighter gets truly big via esports it will fulfill a dream I’ve always had.
I don’t believe in selling out… I’m to old for that. I believe in buying in.
Capcom is finally acting on the obvious knowledge that they have a real winner here and they could have REALLY been trying to cash in on this a long time ago.
It’s displeasing that the game is being released barebones as hell… But I digress, I’m just happy for rollback netcode ATM.
We will see how the actual game turns out. I can’t really say want appeals to casuals since I’m not a casual FG player.
To be fair to Doto, there’s a lot of good grassroots tournaments and leagues, or at least were back when I played on a competitive level. They don’t get the same press as the big invitationals, but you just can’t have the same sort of events for Doto that you can for fighting games. But otherwise I do agree with you.
Vince pretty much saved the day with that IGN review. Solid 8 score and was fair about the idea that its not a great single player game yet, but told people to stick around for more content. Which if the person is a fan of SF at all they probably will. Its not like hes telling them to stick around for an indie/cult favorite game that they’ll forget about.
Vince is pretty much the only fighting game vested person on IGN so he was perfect for the review.
Anything to recoup funds. They either pull this and make easy cash while gambling their hardcore fans, or run the risk of losing even more money and the traction the FGC has been building recently in eSports.
So is Capcom paying out that EA and LOL money for these tournies? Cause if not idgaf…no point in rigging matches by getting dudes hooked on hookers and blow if I aint getting enough money to quit my 9-5 suckas.
Makes sense to me. This is not something everyone would pay for even if it had no problems, so especially don’t pay for it when it does. Either way, Capcom set up this whole DLC thing so they can afford to do something like this. The game is set up to make money every day of the week just like any PC eSport centric game.
The server problems I assume will be fixed pretty soon like they always were in the beta. They just have to go through motions first.
All good. It’s pretty understandable. But you know for some of us that are pretty much 90% dedicated to the multiplayer segments of the game is worth whatever it is we paid for it
I’m picking up the game after work today on PS4. If the servers are still acting up once I get home, I will be genuinely pissed lol.
The online has been tested for 6+ months now. If we can’t get some single player support, at least give us solid online support. Somethings gotta give.
So anyone that bought this game, can you tell me if they ever added neutral jump attack animations or do they just use the same animation like it’s kof lol.
