A game like SoR can still work nowadays, Double Dragon Neon was pretty decent. The biggest reason why VF6 wouldn’t do well is because you can’t roll your face across the stick to get wins, unlike the latest iteration of a certain Capcom franchise (no, not MvC).
I have a feeling we’ll go through another cycle when players want a “harder” fighting game. If it happens in the next 10 years I bet Arc and Cap will be up to bat with another side franchise.
If the complaints are high I know Capcom has DS to come to the rescue.
Edit: Tornado Warning REEEEEE I wanted to play SF
Yeah Dragon Neon was like I was saying. Some retro retake on the game that’s only aimed to sell to like 30+ year olds who will appreciate an HD take on the old style of the game. Either way it’s not really ambitious and no one really remembers that it came out.
VF6 wouldn’t do well for many reasons past that. It’s always been in the shadow of Tekken because to the general audience it visually is just less flashy, less combo centric Tekken. Just as far as to sell that game you have to admit that it looks like the Madden of fighting games where it’s just there to simulate fighting with very generic characters. Tekken is much more flashy just on a story and character aesthetic standpoint.
Casuals dont really care whether a game is easy to win in on not. NRS shows that you can just passify casuals with item/gear collection modes so they can just be casual forever.
I never got the whole Tekken-is-more-flashy-than-Virtua-Fighter-thus-it-is-more-visually-appealing argument. Must be an American thing, as I’ve never heard it anywhere else. What can I say, I like the clean look of VF and the fleshed-out movesets of the characters. Unlike in Tekken, every character seems to have been created from the ground up, and for a purpose, and no two characters play the same. Compare that to Tekken (especially the older ones) where part of the cast is just filler.
If they do make a VF6 and try to make it appeal to the masses again, the generic characters are going to be a problem. It’s not like it’s 2004 where they can just sell people on a really expansive world tourish mode and tutorial.
I mean look at how they released VF5. It got one alright release that sold on the first edition and then none of the updates were even bothered to be put out on console until like way late into the cycle of the game on discount. It’s just not a game you can market like a SF or Tekken unless they super revamp how the game works and add lots of flashy cinematics and cameos and just really jump the shark on shit. Otherwise its just 3d fighting the fighting game and will just get some ok sales until it has 30 old men left playing it here and there.
Like most of the shit you talked about no one that’s going to actually give the game big sales is going to care about. SF and Tekken have face value aesthetics and things that people can buy into. VF not so much.
Yeah, Sega aren’t exactly marketing geniuses. Was FS even released on consoles? I can’t even remember. Also, the PS3 version of VF5 didn’t even have an online mode, go figure…
And yes, the casuals will not look past what they consider a ‘boring’ exterior. Who cares if you’ve got the most refined gameplay? We want epilepsy-inducing super attacks, screen-filling, gaudy costumes and 248-hit combos. Austerity is dead.
I should relly look back into Sakura, I labbed so much with her when AE released but ended up playing very little SFV, because Anime man, anime!
She’s real solid now. Even in casuals I’m doing pretty solid with her and only have trouble vs like hard zoners. Every other character I’m pretty comfortable with using her. Once I land a HK tatsu im in there and s.LK keeps people real honest. V Skill to air command grab so fun too.
I’m glad she went from a character I didnt care about to my new fav DLC character. Get 2 characters from the DLC to mess with since I’m still waiting for Falke.
Watching AMKidd almost makes you forget how bad Ryu is. I can’t imagine what he’d pull if Ryu just was upper mid tier.
I say at minimum Ryu is a threat again. I don’t think any of the characters are bad anymore. Just ones that are clearly better to win tournaments with.
Nice to see that he’s having such a good time with Ryu. Roo man til the end.
@doctrine_dark Fredchuckdave put up a match of you vs Lud’s Menat
Good stuff. You kept up the pressure nicely and picked good times to dive and jump to keep her off her ground game. He didn’t seem to c.HP many of your aerial attepts so I guess the fear of the dive kept him off of using it.
You could have won that second match but choked up the bnb lol.
It’s simple. When casuals see a “flashy” game, they see this:
and when they see VF they see this:
I like VF, I enjoy the gameplay. In the end, Sega wants $$, and if they are not even gonna break even then seems difficult they are gonna make VF6. Unless they try to “spice up” their package somehow because the competition is fierce at the moment.
It will be April 17 in Japan in less than 12 hours.
They also announced a port of Shenmue I & II HD for current-gen and a Mega Drive Mini (SEGA Genesis Mini for you Americanos). The latter is only announced for Japan at the moment though.
Boxer’s bulge is everything.
I saw few minutes ago a discussion about Ryu even on EH, because Daigo plain refuse to touch him again in SFV. That gave people an excuse to complain like they didn’t know using Ryu long term means being ready to be mid tier forever. Hilarious how the same who wants Ryu up there into the top tier realm. -because at the end this is what they really want- are the same who wants Akuma, Guile and Cammy nerfed into the oblivion. I mean, there’s no reason to use Ryu since Akuma was created, but people still refused to switch to the better shoto.
What is ryu supposed to be good at in this game anyway? Bad fireball, short limbs, no brain dead cc’s, not a Mix up character. Luckily they gave his dp air invincibility lol.
Does he at least get solid damage with joudan kick now?
Ryu is good at playing Street Fighter. One time I kept throwing my opponent during the last match of the set to condition him then out of no where my mind said go for a tick throw but instead DP into Super and it worked.
Then when I was taking a shit I realized I was playing Street Fighter because I thought a lil
I feel like sagat is going to make ryu completely obsolete if he isn’t already lol.
Have a feeling sagat is going to have walk speed like bison in this game though.
