nah I don’t hate alex, as an “on and off” sf5 player I don’t know how play against good alex players. not many people played him during my “on” period so I got crushed.
you give a break, when you come back it’s a totally different game. I don’t like this season thing (even season 0,5 thing) going on right now. it’s like f-ing dota.
Pretty sure MOBAs are known for changing like every week. It’s like a MOBA, but you get to play within the same meta for much longer than days or weeks once the 3.5 patch is set. Most other fighting games dont let you play the same game for as long as SFV does. Which is mostly why I stick to it over other games along with genuinely liking it.
When I was playing KI I liked that the first Season didn’t mess with too much and they had a “let it rock” philosophy. I figured they weren’t going to let it rock forever but for the time being was good. Then the Second season came out and it was literally an every month balance patch and I was pretty much done with it (plus didn’t like where the game was going). That was also the time where NRS was known for changing MKX like every week.
This may likely be the last heavy balance patch the game gets until December and that’s pretty much the closest you can get to old game meta in an eSports climate. Even within other genres. People actually complain about the long wait for another balance patch for this game, but that’s a good thing for me.
I may not like what 3.5 did to my favourite character, but it is a good thing that it will stick for the rest of the year.
Having an ever changing meta with constant balance patches would be a very bad thing for the game.
I don’t think anyone wants that MK9/Injustice 1 balance cycle going on. Even as a hyper casual fan that pace seemed kind of nuts. Can’t imagine playing a game seriously and having a fairly significant balance patch come around every month or other month.
I’ve invested a lot of time in dota. even in dota during the early period meta didnt change that drastically and quickly. it is acceptable in a game that players don’t rely on muscle memory or learned reactions. when you do it in dota you just change the strength or the importance of the items, your character pretty much plays the same. when you do it in a fighting game, it blows back. let’s say I’m conditioned for a specific reaction, after cammy’s (or whatever character’s) medium punch I fish for standing lp to a blanka ball. let’s say the meta that time was keeping the pressure on and not going for a throw. I did that for a long period of time I cant shake it off after “balance” change, I’ll keep doing it and get punished. ( I can’t shake off my sf4 crouch teching habits even after years.)
it’s not like “juggernauts ultra will no longer do 723723 dmg” or “bkb will only be active for 3 seconds”. yes it’s refreshing in mobas but in fighting games you expect players to get rid of their habbits, recondition their reactions etc. it’s not easy.
Also I don’t like that character variation thingy going on atm. not just in sf in all fighting games. even arika’s revival project is catching on with this fad. all the gems, variations, mods. sf5 might have been ok and easily balanced without v-triggers. but capcom took netherrealms path, falling for combofiend’s false promises for an honest game.
It’s funny cuz I have people ask me why I DONT tech throws in SFV. That’s because my first competitive SF was 3S where you were taught NOT TO tech because you would get your crouch tech parried and probably die. If Dudley is near you or in the corner and you go for a crouch tech and it gets meatied or parried you are probably stunned or going to take a lot of damage.
SFIV players have to learn that shit, but as a 3S player going into V, it was perfect to have a game where crouch teching is bad because I was already taught not to do it. I just roll into the new game knowing not be a tech whore. In both 3S and V you can tech after grabs so you knew you were getting back on your feet quickly and didn’t need to force the issue of getting space.
It’s not easy to change habits, but you compare to like old Guilty Gear games with character specific combos and then new game comes and you have to learn COMPLETELY NEW character specific combos, it was a whole nother level back then. It’s nowhere near that bad in V and has been worse in other fighters.
I’m not a huge fan of the “Gem” system in FLEX either but it is what it is. I’m not gonna be super E-Sportz about that game so I’ve accepted that I’m prob gonna get blown out but Skullmania’s turning invisible with armored specials.
old habbits die hard. I completely passed sf3 with my casual remy, I’ve got some alpha though.
during sf4 teching or some punishable reversals was kinda ok. not many people could punish you hard for that. I thank sf5 for that, I don’t generously throw out my reversals now. In sf5 everyone punishes like tokido. but in sf4 most players rarely take the risk and go for the extra 100 dmg unless it’s a life situation.
anyways, even switching between my mains in a battle lounge takes me time to adjust (blanka to laura). I don’t like capcom implementing drastical changes so casually, I should not care I’m a casual player. also pros dont care they cope. but if I was a hardcore player I would be pissed.
EH is essentially doing a smear campaign trying to paint Capcom as incompetent for 3.5 either because it gets clicks or because they are dumb as shit or both. It’s like watching a trainwreck in slowmo.
Now they are trying to sway popular opinion into pushing for Capcom to allow active pro-players a say in the meta and balance. Do these idiots know what Conflict of Interest means?
Why are people also under the impression that we should allow balance to be a democratic process? Democracy is limited and can go south fast when a considerable majority are dumb as shit (see US politics). I have read these “pros” comments, many of whom sound like me whining about my cape - IE don’t listen to them (but giff me cape plz).
I get the bitterness but the changes of 3.5 in the context of 3.5 make much more sense than they don’t. That includes the VR nerfs which don’t make sense anywhere but in 3.5.
Capcom’s balance is not perfect, but it’s better than it’s ever been.
They are tropical and are carried by swallows, which seek warmer climes in winter, carried by the husk by such wonderful creatures?
And are very handy to simulate the clopping sound of a hourse in temperate zones?
