SFV Lounge: SRK Cross Tag Battle

I don’t like this version of Cody.
I can understand changing special moves, but why changing almost all of this normals?
I will probably use him as a main (or secondary), but I must admit that I am really disappointed.

c.LK into FF target combo seems like the optimal route damage wise. The range you can get that from seems pretty good.

He has a real fireball with Ed worthy or better AA so he’s not going to get anything great for anti projectile. He’s going to force people to jump if they dont have a ton of anti projectile stuff.

Regular zonk is pretty much reliant on how good the hit box is to see how worthy it is in neutral. With that said, if it lands on counter hit which I’ve seen it goes into FF target combo so with a good hit box you can catch buttons and start up of fireballs into full combo off it.

EX zonk is plus 3 on block so even if that has no invincibility you can use that to crash through the neutral and either hit them or be plus significantly right in their face. It looks like it’s essentially Urien’s EX tackle that you can use while walking forward, but rewarded with even more plus frames than Rog’s ex punch. People are going to hate that move especially if you can VTC it and considering his dash speed. Urien and Rog telegraph their EX neutral crash shit through other specials or blocking. Cody can just walk at you and force you to worry about neutral crash into plus 3.

f+HK target combo looks really good. Cancelable into specials and cancelable on anti air into juggles. His j.LK, MK target combo looks like it’ll be the first air target combo that’s actually useful in neutral, somewhat like Ibuki’s old air targets. V Skill gaining actual invincibility after frame 3 and being GDLK AA seems warranted for the white health removal.

Sweep seems pretty good and doesn’t move him forward so the punishes for some characters will be pretty limited kinda like Blanka’s. Blanka’s sweep also retracts his hurt box early to make it harder to punish even though it is also minus 12. Those VT2 Pipe setups from the trailer might actually be pretty viable especially with VTC.

If he truly has no real reversal that will be rough with only 4 frame lights. Will have trouble vs zoners/anti zoners, but seems like he gets rewarded pretty quick once he gets in. Seems so far like a bit weaker of a Urien, but with a better fireball game to control space before going in for the rush.

I’m curious to see Cody played at higher level, but still I think he’s going to be in the ‘honest’ side of the roster. Outside Abigail, Menat and Kolin, the rest of the last two seasons DLC are mostly used as counterpicks when entering a Top 8 with it’s hard. I understand that Capcom don’t want to ruin the actual balance, but seeing some new characters shine in tournaments would be good for the fans who wants to keep investing time in these characters.

I say Cody and Sakura are likely 2 best Season 3 DLC so far from what I’m seeing. Meaning both are viable for getting top 8s at CPT stuff, just requires a player that puts in the work. Not so much viable for winning the event, but at minimum they both are characters that are better for tournaments than some of the Season 1s and 2s.

Am not worried at all about his neutral or offence to be honest. Both looks fine and VTs looks good.

What i am annoyed by slightly is Capcom keeping him in check with shit defense, like purposely placing a ceiling for him as a viable character.

He easily could have been a top tier character potential if he had a reversal, even if it is a slow one. From what i saw, he is really close to being really good.

I definitely agree with you there. Sakura is very viable if you put in the work and Cody is looking pretty solid so far.
That VT2 will be nasty and his fireball game is strong. Good players will be able to make to top 8 with him.

Tier wise Cody is easily looking better than Ed so far. If bad spray is serviceable on defense he’ll do alright as his damage and neutral clearly surpass Eds already

Bad Spray gonna cuck all of you online and I’m gonna laugh

Ok, nice. Now VF6, please.

Yo, DOA 6?!

Oh man, the one 3D fighter I’ve never really touched.
Pretty excited to jump in.

It’s a free meaty jump in, too many Codys felt in love with that move. They will be never forget.

Inb4 Bad Spray works on maybe 10% of meaty setups and Cody gets counter hit on the rest of them.

Yup, then the SFV hitbox of it seems smaller than the SF4 version, maybe to balance that with his V-Skill.

Hmm:

Cody looks like a combo of ken alex and birdie, in no larticular order. Ken because fireball and invulnerable AA and slower walkspeed. Birdie because can/rock stuff and command grab. Alex because slow walkspeed, big normals, big specials to get in with, no 3 frame for any of the above characters and only ken has a reversal.

Cody however doesnt have jump trajectory changing move or even a move that looks like a jump unlike alex ken and birdie. This makes me feel like he will definitely be designed to be very good on the ground having good pokes projectiles and AA.

His AA looks like it might be weak against trajectory changing attacks like akuma fireball, cammy divekick bison devil reverse etc etc.

Bad spray looks like it can seriously change matchups though. It seems to be its own move? If thats so then that means that hes basically changing KD frame data as it seemed like bad spray wakeup was faster than a quickrise jab would be…: but maybe i was just seeing things.
He looks interesting. Easy mid tier that will have some pretty glaring matchup issues most likely.
