Over 900 matches with Sakura so far and I ended the day at the same spot were I started in ranked, with 2300 or so LP.
I need to stop being so bad at this Street Fighter V thing.

At this rate, I won’t even be able to take a round away from my opponents at Latam South 1 Online next week. :frowning:

Have you done anything specific to try and improve or are you just playing again and again making basically the same mistakes? Imo anyone should be able to make it to around 3000-3500 if they put effort into improving, that’s taken from my time moving through that rank, that’s where people started to make me think and for, ulate plans to beat them and where things like AAing well and hitting my combos etc started to need to have some consistency.

Akuma is too good so I don’t wanna use him, I’m just happy for him ;-; That’s my demon

My adventures in ranked. https://youtu.be/Ha-F6hJNEkM

Huehuehuehuehuehue

And… I hate when I think I’m doing great in ranked and my LP never goes up cuz I’m really in casual. Yup.

The one thing that pisses me off more than anything about Akuma is the full screen fireball VTC.

I HATE characters who never earn their momentum or comeback and the entire round change in pace once they have their VT.

Him and Urien are by FAR the worst offenders of this imo. Fuck these 2 and their cheap VT activations

I don’t get this either. If you’re stuck in a low rank forever you must not analyze your game very well or you have the reaction time of a snail. You should be able to get to Platinum just by AA’ing well and knowing your best pokes and BnBs.

One month ago I dropped from my 3400 LP and my path to gold with Zangief to 900 LP and tons of loses with my day 2 Sakura. Shotos are hard to play when you never played one.
I am improving, working my punishes and my AA, but the improvement is being slower than I would like.

I can take a look at your matches if you want. I like Sakura a lot and naturally acclimated to her, even beating highlands ryu iirc with my day 2/week 1 Sak, not that means a whole lot, but I’ve been playing shotos since 91 and if I actually like them in the game I play I’m always going to be decent with them. Sak is a hard character to use though tbh. Her pokes have not much range and she’s like a hybrid between a shoto and a pressure character without having the crazy strengths of either archetype, but being able to fulfill both roles decently if you know both archetypes.

At 2k or so I’m thinking that your jump game is probably over obvious or you are missing confirms or you don’t AA well… or all of the above, probably don’t have much footsies either so that’s a place you can definitely improve as well if it’s not up to snuff.

Also… I’m, play casual matches till you level up… why you playing ranked with an underdeveloped character? My win/loss ratio in casual games is abysmal because I’m always playing the new character for the first week or so. I think my Falke is like 11-50 or so at this point. No reason to take that shit to ranked until you know the character imo, unless points don’t matter to you, and they shouldn’t, but then again they should because when you drop down in rank you play shittier people and progress slower, when you p,ay casuals you still play people in your ranking but with no points on the line… it’s specifically there to learn new characters… so using it for that is a good option to take advantage of. Also, when playing ranked, if you are relative,y new with a character or a game, like, around 2 months of playtime or so, it can be a very good option to play 2-3 casual games to warm yourself up for ranked that way you aren’t going in cold and suffering losses right off the bat because you are cold and playing against people that have been in the ranked grind for hours and are as warmed up as can be. Just food for thought.

Casuals is too casual and people don’t do their best to beat me there. No cheap tactics, no wake up supers, rare ex reversals, etc.
I took 20 loses in casual the 1st day, got 2 wins and said fuck it, hit ranked the next day and been building myself back up with a character that has a play style I had no idea how to play back then.
I improved much faster then I would have if I had stuck with casual games with Sakura.

I have a tournament coming in and the mentality in ranked play is much closer to that of a tournament setting than lounges and casuals. I won’t make out of pools, but that doesn’t matter. My goal right now is to take at least one round out of my opponents, and I think I am mentally ready for that thanks to ranked.

SH3 is okayish as a JRPG but as an American it was fucking amazing to see their take on that period and what they did with some of the historical characters. Hilarious shit.

Characters were pretty fun too. Dumb game in a lot of ways but good dumb. And it’s not like they’re making a new one anytime soon so if you haven’t played SH3 it’s worth a spin.

Been thinking about my ranked games more since I’ve been travelling the past few days. A lot of what I’ve come up with matches what Dime said: even fighting against Gold’s and Super Gold’s what is failing me are the same basics. Not AA’ing correctly, not dealing with cross up jumps, not checking dashes, not managing space well, not taking turns appropriately.

Another complication I’m having is that I’m fine-ish when someone wants to play the game similar to how I do. But when they jump a shitload or run a bunch or do something crazy a lot I don’t deal with that as well. More specifically I don’t think I shift gears fast enough to adjust to their game plan being different from what I expect or am ready to deal with.

I can usually get a good bead on what the opponent is likely to do by the end of the first game. Sometimes I can turn that into a second game win. And the third game can be a toss up based on if they change up from the second game.

I’d like to be able to turn that around faster. Not have to give up the first game so often and be able to adjust better if they pivot. Not sure how to get there but I’m guessing playing more games and getting more practice at it is the way to go for the near future.

Also need to work on Laura and match up specific stuff but that definitely just comes with time.

What bea_lank described is the exact opposite of what I play against, LOL. In casuals people are doing reversals and jumping and playing like tards, but good tards. There’s thought behind their retardedness. In ranked idk, I guess I scare people because I have fewer problems in ranked in general than in casuals, but one loss in ranked due to fraudulent means triggers the fuck out of me, that’s why I stick to casuals, personally.

Yeah, players that have a style that you described up top are the hardest to deal with for me to. I could say it’s just my skill and bla bla bla not adjusting but I’m hard headed and don’t like to play like a scrub to beat a scrub. It’s a huge downfall but I feel terrible getting a win in a way I feel is scrubby.

Also, it doesn’t matter what rank you are, those things I described are always going to be the general failings that forge a loss. Even if you are diamond or grandmaster, missing that crucial AA or not checking that nemo urien yolo dash etc etc is what’s going to get you the L in this game. It’s just that checking those things becomes harder and harder the higher rank you go, ie the better your opponent gets the harder it is to have consistent fundamentals against them… story of life. But still, working on those things and making them as solid as possible is always going to yield good dividends, I just think that having those fundamentals up to around 3500 is achievable for anyone given sufficient time and practice. Once you get above 4K in my experience is when players start to have ā€œsomeā€ talent that other players just won’t. Doesn’t mean that players above 4K are particularly great, I demolished a couple of 6K players earlier, but I was using my old main and my old main probably isn’t that low of a rank if I actually played ranked. Bla bla bla, I’ve been having a slight epiphany about how to approach this game with different characters. Things I always knew but am now starting to be able to incorporate in non obvious ways.

One of the biggest ones for my chun is that I need to force our fast button presses from my opponent. Once I can get them to consistently do that I can start to tag them with frame traps much more easily. The way I’ve been forcing faster button presses is by doing walking crouch jabs in up close pressure. Literally had a ryu in the corner with like 5 HP left and I walked up and did like 6 cr.lk in a row. Tha kinda pressure was getting to him and I hit him with multiple throws frame traps and shimmies because of the pressure. Unfortunately Chun is uniquely suited for this because of the combo of her ranged lights and her fast walkspeed, but I think ryu is also capable of this in a slightly more limited fashion.

Sooo he wants people to clean up after other people is how I understand this.

I feel like this 3.5 is one of the worst patch balance wise. The top tiers are so much stronger than the rest of the cast. 3.0 was probably even worse but at least it didn’t last for long

4.0 will be even worse, don’t worry.

That just reminded me that Akuma can cancel his dp into vtrigger. Fuck that bullshit.

Also Urein players are retarded and act like their shit doesn’t stink.

Thong wearing character with a name sounding like piss was never a popular character. If it wasn’t for that stupid aegis bullshit in 3s, no one would give a damn about him.

Urein players are the same ones that complain about how broken Genei Jin, Custom Combos and dive kicks are. Pot calling the kettle black.

4.0 will be amazing.
They’re going to do the only logical thing and (respectfully) nerf the remaining 3 top characters.
Maybe buff some of the absolute low tiers here and there and see how that works out.
New characters will still be weak on release as to not upset the perfect balance they have achieved with 4.0.
It’s so obvious and clear-cut, even a child could do it.

I have high hopes and nothing could possibly go wrong.

So I finally watched the Chris T interview of Daigo that DJ linked up thread.

I thought it was really insightful and actually hit on all the points I just mentioned. Also did the unthinkable and made me think a little better of Chris T. Mostly due to how frank he was about his weaknesses as a player.

Also following up on casual vs ranked players: in casual I still ran/run into plenty of psychos, but it’s definitely a lower % than ranked. Still plenty of raggo aggro though.
