Ehhh, I think there are real arguments for and against it. if you’re opposed to option selects in principle I can see where you’re coming from. If it’s this specific one that bothers you, I get it too, but I think there are a lot of arguments for.
I think Crouch Tech in 4 was a bad decision that had a lot of potentially good effects. It gave any character with a decent cr.LK a defensive option and gave any character with a frame trap a way to open opponents up. In 4, that defensive option ended up being a little too strong for some characters, but in 5, I think that dynamic could really shine. Crouch teching isn’t just a meme defense, it’s also an additional offense dynamic and I think that’s good.
Writing it off out of hand seems like a way to signal your dislike for 4 to your peers without thinking critically about what it actually does and why it might be useful. It exists in 3s and doesn’t cause problems because it’s just a different game, 5 is a different game too.
If they remove CC from regular dps, people will mash them in every 3f frame trap situation. Is that hidden Cody buff ?
Not sure I like CC removal for EX dps. It would become way more important if you can neutral jump punish it or not.
I am in disbelief at how people still find things to be surprised about Rashid to this day.
I have been saying this basically from the day I joined SRK
Rashid
is
cancer
Anyway, looking at the schedule, I don’t see an announcement happening at Lyon, because Capcom doesn’t give a fuck about EU tournaments (personal opinion? yes. Does it feel that way? also yes) already, can only imagine how little they value a French one.
Which leaves Combo Breaker as the next possible window.
Reason it works in 3S is because you can parry punish them and you can’t really meaty throw as well as you can in SFV.
Crouch teching in V would just make certain characters more unnecessarily stupid than others. Chun Li fishing for cancelable c.LK into legs/ex legs v trigger activation would be loved by all
and whoever want this to come out of a crouch tech must love Rashid.
Get thrown and shimmied. Counter shimmy like a boss.
Rashid was pretty important in the story, featured on the cover art of SFV AE, was the first to get extra battle costumes, mega man costumes and is popular online.
He ain’t going away.Actually I would argue he has the highest chance to return in SF6 from all the newcomers.
Yup. If you don’t have a 3 frame vs Fang it’s already RIP if he makes you block anything that can lead into throw range. Falke EX PP being OS lightable means you’re fucked unless you guess he’s going for a medium or heavy.
Active frames on normals increased across the board. Like 2 more active frames on everything. Makes meaties, anti-airs and pre-emptive buttons against dashes easier
Increased pushback on negative-on-block normals. Makes it easier to keep a particular spacing going, or bait whiffs from the opponent.
V-reversals sped up. Now they actually get you out of pressure somewhat reliably. Can still be baited by jabs, but will blow up mediums and most aerials.
Fireballs deal more damage. Plz.
Sagat gets slightly faster normals. Plz
Nerfs
Jump arcs altered for most characters, in a way that you can’t both jump in and dash in from the same spacing. Makes it easier to control the neutral game.
Jump-in hitstun decreased. If you wanna get a combo from a jump, you gotta land deep.
Backdashes are only throw invincible, not airborne. No more flipouts.
VTCs from specials slowed on block. Stuff like Akuma shaku VTC and Urien EX tackle VTC is now slightly less dumb.
V-reversals made unsafe on block. In tandem with the other change above. I like how dead angle works in Xrd and think it’d work nicely here too.
Also about crouchtech, since people touched on that: another reason why it’s not prominent in 3S, in addition to the parrying, is that it doesn’t double as an easy hit-confirm into a full combo. If someone crouchtechs, you eat a single crouch jab, which is like 2% of your healthbar, while if it gets parried you lose 40% of yours. In SFIV you could lose half your health to a crouch tech easily, and you could time it so that the opponent had to delay his frame traps to blow it up while you still teched throws. That wouldn’t work as well in SFV because of the buffer on normals, and converting lights into a combo takes more effort. I wouldn’t be greatly opposed to the idea of reintroducing crouch tech, but I really hated dealing with it in SFIV so I’m leaning towards letting that shit stay in the bin.
Option selects are kind of a shitty thing to deliberately design in though. If you want crouch teching, just go ahead and make c.lk a valid throw break.
I’d argue that the current paradigm is an option select too, it just gives you throw regardless of your crouch state, heh
And it feels more deliberate than it did in 3s or 4, where hitting two buttons just did a thing that was the natural conclusion of the game’s systems. In 5, crouch+LP+LK = throw is a very deliberate, hard-coded option select. That’s a fact.
He’s like Chun Li. Solid, but has pretty bad matchups that make him only so strong in CPT. His worst matchups are probably worse than Chun’s still. He actually has a real V system/trigger now so that helps him a lot.
