Guess that means Karin and Birdie should be getting dive kicks soon.
Falke has the only dive kick and air fireball you can do jumping backwards naturally and she’s lower mid to mid at best.
And dive kicks are still stupid.

Falke has the most graceful dive kick.
Now if only it wasn’t almost completely useless…
I like divekicks because they enable an entire playstyle that doesn’t really exist without them
SF5 as it is has a design resistance to a lot of mechanics that are strong by default. There are no real rekkas, no real divekicks, few meaningful instant air specials, etc., and while there are a lot of characters with fireballs, the mechanics of the game are pretty punishing to those characters except for like, Guile.
The game needs more mechanical diversity tbh, divekicks are one way to spice things up that I’d welcome. I mean, it’s either that or just give every fucking character a command throw for the rest of the game’s life cycle
My counter argument:
Cammy
No divekicks when Cammy exists is a bad argument yeah, we don’t need stronger divekick characters present.
Yeah cammy has a divekick but it’s very different from the Yun divekick or Rufus divekick for obvious reasons.
I like her dive because it’s more meant for evasion and playing mind games with her jump ins than ramming footsie avoiding BS down people’s faces until they lose.
It generally has varying degrees of which matchups its useful in.
Like vs the limb characters it’s pretty useful vs Sim since it can hop on top of bad teleports and hop on top of slides and still give her a decent jump button to possibly start a combo or frame trap with.
Then vs Menat on the other hand it’s like basically useless. Even for evasion/stalling since walk up delay s.HK still usually beat it. Only going to get useful dives vs her if you land a sweep CC or trigger low shot high shot oki in the corner.
As much as she bodies Gief it’s also basically near useless vs him other than screwing up his AAs.
Would be THE END.
Just add Yang, get us that divekick and rekka gameplay all at once
I mostly use it as a tool to confuse people as well.
But it can be very annoying to get AAed out of the hop even if you actually hit it.
Not really.
Ultimately it’s just a tool to throw off AA timing. There are actually lots of things that do that in this game.
We just watch Tokido blow up Fuudo and Punk in large part by using air hadoken to screw up the AA.
Good, those characters are horrible.
Heh, it’s a taste thing I guess. I’d rather Yun, Yang, and Rufus all 3 be in the game than another Laura/Mika/G/Necalli command throw mixup character.
The problem is when they start giving dive kicks to characters that already can approach you with ease.
Yun had ok normals and free in with lunge punch.
Same case with SFV Cammy, good normals to close the distance and walk you down.
That’s what makes it unique though. They don’t want it to be a super offensive dive. Like the buffs make it so if you land a real meaty dive you can get some real stuff. Which is better than S3 where the only real dive was a just frame meaty that had 0 bounce and landed straight into the ground. Anyone with an air throw still bodies her kinda real stuff though.
Landing the dive on hit is the best way to get lazy dive setups. Gives you more advantage as she’s coming down than getting it blocked. You don’t want to use blocked dives for offense unless you find a way to make them hit real deep and they don’t have an air throw.
That’s why it’s fun watching Falke mirrors as they try to do funky dive shenanigans on each other, but they all get bodied by her air throw.
Yet Cammy in games pre-dive kick was almost universally trash.
Different engines reward different things. Not to beat this horse again, but this is why legacy characters aren’t always a good thing for a game. These characters were designed for different engines.
This is especially true of 3S characters.
In other words, give G a dive kick
