VT1 is still good even without the gimmicks. It improves his neutral a lot and 2 bars works for his low health. Just VT2 gives you HKD Akuma crap and a raging demon that you can combo into for low scaled big ass damage dumps.
ahem…I actually bought Kage with real life money and told everyone to use VT2 while everyone was posting VT1 combos…Buff Kage Season 4.5

If you just buff his HP button ranges he’d be alright. His counter hit routes suck because he can’t convert into anything meaningful because they’re so short ranged. And BnB combos with fierce can drop too, and if he can’t fierce cancel he loses like 80 damage in combos, or more.
I also think his fireballs should all travel slight distances, about as far as his EX.
Also need to send Sako dat tech. St. Mk on counter hit is +5. Get the jab combo or go straight to lp or Ex srk.

From my time playing Kage he is a meaty monster.
He has so many potential meaty setups. He never seemed to be about crazy pressure in neutral but crazy oki, the neutral is just to land a hit to setup a meaty oki and then repeat and kill. That’s the reason his numbers so meh and his neutral is just meh
I truly don’t understand the point of VT1, I guess its if you want to play a more pressure centered kage but his buttons aren’t good enough for that imo.
His VT2 meaty list is great, but his midscreen meaties are terrible

I think we all know about Kage’s potential if we’re being serious. There are some high ranking ones doing crazy shit still.
Whenever I use him with VT2, dash up stLP > hadou set up works like butter and links into heavies but fuck all of that he can combo into Demon that’s all I need for fun
Kage at 900 makes no sense to me as well, especially when we out here with a 950 Rashid.
