I think the difference between cheap in this and cheap in SF5 is the skill required. In SF4 how many good Ibuki or elf did you play? And I mean proper set ups.
You can fire on Smugs stream and quite literally learn to do G set ups in an hour.

Learning SF4 set ups wasn’t hard. Hell towards the end it wasn’t even necessary becuase you could whiff random things and people had to guess whether it was a set up or you were fibbing.
SF4 training mode was terrible though. But if you cared, youtube had you hella covered on a lot of info.
This is a pray for Gorilla
to be revealed at NCR
send your strength
So wait am I watching a KoF XIV GF with no Taiwan?
Ah it was 2017 rerun
You can learn all the G Setups you want, they’re easy. Don’t mean shit if you don’t know how to actually play the game with G. Your reactions and/or frame data knowledge have to be otherworldly to get the most out of him. He lives and dies on his jab conversions.
Elf’s issue was his execution, but that was his ONLY barrier. Otherwise you just go wild with him and hope he gets there. Ibuki, I saw plenty of solid Ibukis, idk what you were smoking in SF4.
I considered myself a pretty solid ibuki. Not the best by any stretch of the imagination, but decent. I will say I think I had the best footsies out of any ibuki I’ve played though. Most ibukis weren’t even aware she had a cr.mk, but that was her best button by far, just no reward.
I played ibukis way better than me though. Motempest and I used to play a lot. He always kicked my ass but the shit wasn’t free. I remember playing thrillhouse once as well. He kicked my ass pretty free iirc. But whatever, he lived in the arcade, I was pretty good when I lived in the arcade as well.
My best friend was an elf main. I hate elf. Fuck that character.
Cheap is cheap, I don’t find much correlation with skill being the prime factor. I mean it IS a factor, don’t get me wrong. But it’s like a 5 on the 10 scale for me. It doesn’t fucking matter if someone is doing a combo with 10 1 frame links in it that does full life from any starter, once they’ve got it it’s no longer hard to do. And if your best combo is much easier but does 1/3 the damage… skill is irrelevant. Skill is something that players at the higher end of reactions or timing execution, tend to hide behind. This is one reason why SG was a great game. Most of the hardest shit in that game is at most advanced. But there’s nothing on the game that I know of that is super difficult timing or reaction. The game is all about how you think. How creative you are, how good you are at solving a constantly evolving problem.
Which to me, is what fighting games should be more about. Not less.
Option select and option coverage on different wake ups was way harder than 5. Not even in the same ball park.
How many people could watch a high level pro of their character and say " I can do that"
SF5 - everyone
SF4 - only really high level players.
Congratulations, you have a bunch of things in SF4 that require a ton of execution but have nothing to do with playing the game.
Fuck the massive amount of Option Selects in SF4. Now I love math, don’t get me wrong…but what’s the point of playing when you don’t have to think about what the opponent could be doing when you have something that beats it all anyway.
SF4 is just part of a wave of games that came out after Alpha 2 that made it so you must need lots of execution and trial and error just to unlock the basic gameplay of like every character you use. It’s going to be bullshit whether you’re dealing with a high level player or a lower level player any way.
Marvel 3 is basically, the average Johnny Donuts can do bullshit that kills you, but the top players can just do more bullshit that kills you better. Alpha 2 mash Valle CC sweeps into lightning legs can tear off 50 percent.
SF4 worked where you had a lot of people that sucked at footsies/neutral and just grinded execution all day. Like the Goukens that couldn’t actually play SF that well, but had executions down to a science better than probably Valle would have with the character even if he was more fundamental. Making them more random to fight since if you got hit you were going to take a huge damage combo almost guaranteed and back throw to ultra was tearing off your lifebar.
Do I respect somebody who just labs executions for Ibuki/Fuerte/Seth/Gouken all day just for the purpose of being able to put me in cheap shit that will kill me? Not really. People will learn to give you cheap one way or the other any way. Once you’ve played games regularly where the BS is more accessible you realize the BS is coming regardless and you’ll have to deal with it.
TBF that was a lot more execution errors on Teru’s part than the matchup and Teru still almost won the set with nearly dropping everything. Still don’t think the matchup is too bad for Kage especially since Gief can never ever jump vs Kage and air fireball anti air pretty much resets Gief.
Birdie or G would be more of a real problem for Kage than Gief.
I feel like his reluctance to wake up EX DP cost him. He ate so many SPDs but threatened only once with EX DP. Footsie game looks kinda rough though. If that was offline, I but you would’ve seen more Lariat through fireballs.
Yeah most shorter ranged characters have rough footsie games vs Gief, so it’s part of the territory. Luckily he has just enough tools that are normally solid vs Gief to keep it from getting too out of hand. Like Sakura might have a bit better overall of a footsie game vs Gief, but she can’t stop him from jumping as well as Kage can and red fireball/air fireball are both better vs Gief than her fireballs.
Feel Kichipa opting to not lariat fireballs was more of a choice than on or offline. He could have, but probably just opted for things that are safer on whiff.
Why is Highland a prime example of someone who sees SFIV always trough nostalgia googels?
Maybe someone should punch them off of his Nose.
Quick post more Fuerte Matches!
Fuerte sucks so I’ll post Alpha 3 instead.
Alpha 3 is weird.
V-Ism is there, the game goes unga bunga, no one has V-Ism, they play a loot of Footsies.
Then someone gets V-ISM again and the other player ends up in an infinite in the Corner.
Well still better than SFIV and V
It’s the Hokuto No Ken of SF games. Get a bit of neutral and then people get blown up.
So combofiend got top 8 at GGXrd at NCR?
Marvel 4 confirmed to be full of GG stuff just like SFV.
Evo is pretty much anime now any way. Even crack is Guilty Gear now
Soon you will give in to your anime overlords and enjoy these games.
There is no running, only delaying the inevetable!
