When I say there needs to be a distinction I’m referring to proper use of the English language. Refering to Daigo and LeBron under the same umbrella term implies (in this topic) that there is a similar level of physicality going on.
Nerds (no shade im a nerd too) flicking their damn wrists on a video game controller is not the same thing as LBJ running up and down the court and putting the moves on 7ft freaks of nature. It’s not even in the same ballpark.
And to be clear, nobody is saying that these various activities don’t require skill or that they lack physical requirements.
Also, I think you are misusing the term “physicality” here, which I’m only pointing it because its related to what I’m saying. Definition from Google:
-
the fact of relating to the body as opposed to the mind; physical presence.
-
involvement of a lot of bodily contact or activity.
Now I’m not saying those are the only way to use the words, but these two definitions are difference between an LBJ and a Daigo.
LBJ getting on a stick has literally nothing to do with the discussion, since him losing has nothing to do with physicality or athletes vs non-athletes. A pro will always beat an amateur at anything. If we are trying to pit them against each other (for some reason?) it needs to be one or more physical activities they are both amateurs at. But i think this is dumb because obviously LeBron would wash Daigo at probably anything that involves more movement than sitting in a chair.
Golf is literally the “sport” for older (midlife not old old) people who either can’t or won’t do a real sport but still want to feel good about themselves by being active. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but there is no physical confrontation or simultaneous actions. Just guys taking turns hitting the ball. And again, its not as simple as that, but the physical baseline for golf, dart throwing, shooting, etc, is much lower than say, hockey.
Not done typing but my phone is lagging so im just “saving” here.
Edit: Actually you know what I’ll just call it there i don’t feel like typing anymore on this subject. Yall can say im wrong or whatever i don’t care. I just don’t have any more fucks to give on this.
Golf is sport
Golfers are athletes
So are gamers
