How do you feel about rebooting the Street Fighter series for 6? I know “reboot” is sort of a dirty word, but there are definitely issues with the Street Fighter canon that are very difficult to correct. It’s really a mess. SF3 is currently acting as a sort of unhelpful bookend to the series, and because Bison and Shadaloo are such iconic parts of the SF series (as much as Chun or Ryu or Ken) it is difficult to sell a post-3 world to most players. So the result is that we inch ever closer to SF3 without ever arriving at it. No one knows who the Illuminati is outside of hardcore fans, no one knows who Gill is, etc.
A reboot would allow Capcom to integrate the Illuminati into the story earlier, it would allow them to detangle the Gouken stuff, it would allow them to give Akuma meaningful characterization, etc. Right now we’re kind of stuck with shitty stories that don’t matter in 5 because we’re stuck with an outcome that Capcom doesn’t want to arrive at.
SF series story is a mess with the incompetent writers they have, they made promotional work for SFIV and made it immediently non-canon with the games release.
They have no clue what to make with their characters, most are one dimensional functions and lack any depth or even character.
Just make no story at all, just make SFVI place Bison as big evil guy you fight at the end of arcade mode and be done with it.
Capcom is completly incapable to make any even half decent story with SF.
I know. I feel you. I get it. Reboots, prequels, etc, suck.
But I legit believe Street Fighter makes a real case for why they can be a good thing. The property is obviously awesome and we all love it, but it’s become such a mess due to writing problems that I think you could take the pieces and start over to do something a lot better than what we have now. I don’t want a reboot to make it sexier or make it more modern, that’s not what it needs. I want a reboot because it’s so difficult to write for now due to “story debts” from writers of the past.
They need to get that Xrd story treatment. Just focus on establishing a canon and then advance the story.
Too much clutter on the old games with a lot of non-canon endings.
If they just focus on establishing a storyline like Xrd Sign did, they have a legit shot. SFV story kind of sucked to say the least, but if you got a canon foundation, everything turns out well.
If they just didn’t completely waste the SFV Arcade mode, story wouldn’t even be in a mess. All they had to do is show what each character did during the game’s timeline…
I’ve played just about every Sf except for 1 and I can’t really tell you what the story is. I know the basics but any kind of deep lore I can’t tell you shit. I really don’t want a reboot though.
Street fighter is in a weird spot they have to have certain characters in to appeal to people even if it makes no sense. I don’t trust them to do a reboot like nrs did.

Say what you want but that’s one talking point I keep seeing in articles and hearing in general around mk11. The story is no novel but I hear pretty good especially for a fg. Hey I didn’t even buy the game lol.
NRS Storys aren’t great.
They kill 3/4 of the cast during the story and trough some BS, they’re all alive in the next game again.
While telling some bad B Movie Story, with bad writing, flat characters and a lot of edge in it.
Honestly, you can watch every saturday morning cartoon and get a better story of of one episode, than you can get from MKs entire storymode.
Also shows how little people know about other games.
Only see comparison what Capcom should do what NRS does, despite ASW doing this stuff, they want in every game.
But hey, since barely anyone plays them, just say they should do it like NRS, cause thats the only other company that exists.
I stopped caring about streetfighter story a long time ago, the only thing that matters to me is chronological timeline which they still confuse cause sf4 takes place before SF3 NG so wouldn’t that make Yun and yang kids? even though they’re built like a mid 20s person.
also that means ibuki was always a thot even while young😂
