SFV Lounge: No News after the grass, 10K POWERRRRRRR

You’re wanting it to be about tekken. The problem is that if Daigo is starting shit, then odds are it’ll be a broad ruling for the sake of simplicity.

Which means that you’re going to have to learn stick because otherwise pool judges are gonna have to hand DQs to people who walk around with a hitbox in the wrong area. Which is why neither Ve nor I are keeping it about one game. Its about what the controller is bringing to the table overall.

Looks like the DP grind will be real.

Now I want a stick with the handle looking like the gold design of the gauntlet with the 6 button layout being the stone colors.

Damn that would be sexy

Edit: This is too cute to be in just the Marvel thread.

The hitbox situation in a nutshell:

“I am Daigo Umehara”

(Snaps)

All hitboxes turn to dust

This talk about unfair advantages reminds me of that artial arts movie where fighters were using cybernetic implants except for the protagonist who was 100% human. I have forgotten the name but the movie was cool~

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon?

I feel like I have to call Jon Stewart.

Shazzy offline? Holy shit. Happy to see a great Cody at CB.

It’s Hoji. Thought it was Shazzy. Still a great Cody.

I don’t really get all the complaints about hitbox suddenly. They’ve been around for years, and have been acknowledged as being a better control scheme for years.

Imagine being an SF4 pad player and complaining about stick players having access to easy plinking, select plink mods, more buttons.

Imagine being a stick player and complaining that pad players can hold back on the dpad and flick forward on the analog stick to throw a boom and immediately block after. Or imagine complaining that you can hold down back on the dpad and tap forward twice +P to do a DP on pad. Imagine complaining that pads don’t make any noise so you can’t hear button presses. Etc.

This whole debate is ridiculous. People don’t whine about pad advantages because for years they were considered inferior and a lot of the people on these forums probably made fun of pad warriors. But an input that is widely considered better than the almighty fight stick is a problem.

People have complained about hitboxes for a while this isn’t even slightly new.

What changed is that Daigo picked one up because it would give him an advantage… and the Capcom Pro Tour banned it.

Also, the key difference is that, as I’ve already stated, the games are designed with pad/stick in mind. The hitbox is something from outside the game designed for he expressed purpose of giving players an additional advantage.

Again, I am not advocating banning hitboxes myself.

I don’t even think it provides that significant an advantage. It’s an improved controller for fighting games that gives players more control, that I acknowledge. But a.) that sort of improvement should be embraced, and b.) the better player won’t start losing because his opponent is using a hitbox.

This is just another case of traditional conservative Japanese players being afraid of anything they aren’t used to.

This sort of reminds me of the New Zealand flag referendum when they didn’t change their ugly flag because their grandparents fought wars under it and stuff, it’s all emotionally appealing but illogical nonsense. Out with the old and in with the new, I say.

Also, were ALL hitboxes banned, or were only the Gafro ones banned?

WRONG!! it’s Heatseeker!!

I generally agree that the hitbox doesn’t cross the line.

My position is that the line needs to be drawn, not necessarily that the hitbox is the line.

You have to be careful, because a lot of the logic being used to justify the hitbox could just as easily or applied to programmable controllers or turbo buttons. Or are those okay too?

Also, I think you are reading a lot of cultural subtext into the debate that, even if true, shouldn’t really effect the decision.

They banned Diagos hitbox based on the PCB, so hitbox brand boxes are still fine. This has however, created an enforcement nightmare.

What you think and actual reality don’t line up.

MvC3 hitbox was able to do things that were impossible on pad or stick.

Is hitbox a drastic improvement in every game? No, but they’re are outliers that should be evaluated.

And they are usually of a standard.

Example, using football that is squishier and easier to catch.

Is equivalent to some of these controller debates.

There needs to be a standard
